******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I mean fooled in a way that what we have after 9 years should be considered defensible/acceptable. Where SC is right now is reasonably impressive (apart form for single players) but after 9 years it should be at least in beta status. Instead it is still an early pre alpha release that is not even close to feature complete.

Well i'm not defending that, i don't believe anything CR says anymore, i think while he has a great vision and some real talents he is the problem. He needs someone to manage him.

However, and i say again, judge it by what it is now, not by what it could be or the character of its creator.

You literally contradicted yourself by saying you aren't defending it. Then you go on to defend it by saying we should judge it only by what it is now and not what is should have been.

Let me reiterate that I am impressed with what the MMO aspect is shaping up like but the single player S42 stuff is nowhere even close. So let's be honest, it's hardly what we would call admirable work considering they had 9 years and muliple millions in funding.

I think there are very few regular players that think it's totally acceptable to be 'only' this far after all this time.
Yes, it should be further along, but it is what it is and we enjoy what's there (if and when it works properly :D) and look forward to what's coming. It's as simple as that and it doesn't mean that we're blind to it's various shortcomings or don't complain about them.

SC and ED have/had very different technical requirements with what they're trying to achieve. It's not really fair to compare them in terms of dev time just because they're both spaceship games.
That said, I don't think too many will disagree with the point that SC hs been mis-managed over the years.

By what measure did you arrive at that conclusion? Serious question, i'm very obviously pointing out what the problem is and there in agreeing it has them but also stating quite reasonably that the game should be judged by its own merits, as anything and everything in life should, how is that not reasonable? This is not a contradiction, its only a contradiction to a mind which thinks the game is Chris Roberts.

This is why some times IT IS necessary to state the obvious.

It 100% is a contradiction. You said "I'm not defending that" in reply to my statement that what we have after 9 years should not be defended. You then go on to say that the game shoud be judged on it's own merits while ignoring it has taken 9 years to get to this unfinished (yet impressive) state.

That is the very definition of a contradiction.

I'm not ignoring it, i said what i think the problem is, THAT is an acknowledgement, is it that this is just not enough for you? Do you want more, what do you want?

You don't get to judge SC in a bubble where Chris Roberts doesn't exist. Do you find the current state of the game is acceptable, given that it has taken 9 years to get to the current unfinished state? Or do you feel it should have been much further along the development cycle if not already done?

I think the game should be much further along than it is, however i enjoy playing it just as it is.

Whether you enjoy it or not is irrelevant to the question being asked, but thanks for finally agreeing with my point that 9 years is long time to get where we are.

Its completely relevant if you believe we are all individuals capable of making our own choices.

Who argued that it is acceptable to have taken this long? Did I miss a post?

You didn't miss anything, its just hard for some people to understand how anyone can separate the product from the politics.

Indeed, I just find it laughable that some people are still fooled by what SC has to offer after 9 years in development.
It offers a lot, and always has. It's even delivered a little slice of it, and that's what's kept people interested from day one.... It just is yet to deliver anything else at this point. However, people are still holding on to the hope of it being delivered, which is why they are still 'playing' this current pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-Alpha version.

You literally contradicted yourself by saying you aren't defending it. Then you go on to defend it by saying we should judge it only by what it is now and not what is should have been.
That in itself may or may not be defending it, depending on your subjective perspective of the game in its current state!! :D
However, he's right in not judging it by what it could be... because as I mentioned above, that is exactly what the die-hard fans are doing - It's always about what it's going to be, rather than how much/little they've achieved in a decade of development.

You don't get to judge SC in a bubble where Chris Roberts doesn't exist.
Why not?
When Freelancer was 2-3 years past its deadline for delivery, that's exactly what Microsoft did and the only reason we got that game finally released... ;)

Interesting thread. I wonder if this is ever going to be released.

More from Kate :)
The guy showing her how to mine has the basics down, but he doesn't really know what he's talking about. No real idea of what mining head or consumables he should be using out there and he shouldn't be referring to the visual representation of the halo belt on the starmap as any kind of guide.
He also mined some pretty worthless crap, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, as he's just showing her how it basically works.

I run the mining dept in our org, so I get triggered by stuff like this

Other than that, it's a nice series. I just hope she gets her standard keyboard shortcuts figured out at some point :)

Looks really promising .... But god it is begging for VR
Would be nice, but there'd need to be a LOT of optimisation and probably GPU hardware progress to get the kind of performance you'd need for that.
I could also see it being a bit awkward in terms of both controls and potential nausea, seeing as it's an on foot and in cockpit game with a ton of hotkeys.

You own the game IIRC? Go try it or maybe wait a week or two for the 3.14 live build. Myself or one of the guys here would be happy to help you get up to speed if you need.
