******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I will have another go when it's free to play again.

There was to many bugs last time.
Whatever you do is make sure its installed on an SSD, the GPU, CPU... they don't really matter too much, as long as they are not complete potatoes, Ryzen 2600 / 8600K + GTX 1060 6GB / RX 480 8GB for 1080P is perfectly ok. but if its installed on a spinny drive it will run like a bathtub full of rusty nails.

I got way better than that, and I play in UHD.
So bring it on

3.14, Orison later on.

Performance on Orison is bad, but most of the landing zones were early on.

And

Current cloud tech is still in active development and not yet final. There's ongoing work on SDF occlusion which should help alleviate the graphical artifacting (visual dots in the clouds). Additionally, we are working towards having local VFX for the clouds (similar to the gas clouds around rest stops) which will make a big difference in overall quality.

Known Issues
  • Gas Clouds on Crusader appear to have moving graphical artifacts that appear as dots. Current clouds are still in development and not final. See note at the top of patch notes.

PS: MSR is working fine now in subsequent patches. this was an earlier 3.14 PTU patch.

I had a proper look at ship combat too, last night. No video, with the new missile operator mode and the capacitor game play on the weapons its MUCH better, more difficult but more rewarding.

Same

It also feels like it good do with a tutorial/intro mission for complete noobs. Unless it has one now?

Last time I tried free to play I wandered around with stuttering frames (installed on an SSD...), eventually figured out how to get a ship and then got a bit bored

No, it's still not a noob friendly experience. You're best off watching a tutorial vid on YT and/or jumping on with someone that can show you the ropes.
Could always ask in global chat. The community is pretty friendly and there's usually someone willing to help.

As early backer of $40 I log in once or twice a year to see if there has been any progress, generally the answer is no and I regret wasting my bandwidth on the download and immediately uninstall.
Last time I logged in was Oct / Nov 2020 (I think!) and there was still nothing to actually do. Has much changed or should I not bother?

I actually backed this for SQ42 not SC but reading some of the above it looks like Bethesda will have Fallout 6 out before SQ42...

I am the same as you, early backer mainly for SQ42 who loads it up once in a blue moon to laugh at the painfullly slow progress. I installed again very recently (80GB download) and wouldn't even load the MMO game part. So instead of troubleshooting I just uninstalled again and will keep watching and waiting to see if it gets good anytime soon.

There is nothing here for single player content players. Check back in 2030 for version 87.43.2221

What exactly have you done already in the game to warrant saying that there was nothing to do back in nov last year?

What have you tried and discovered in the game?

Nope still not that much, you have bounty missions and mining is pretty fleshed out now, spend two weeks in it at the moment and you'll do everything you can do at least 10x times.. desperately needs a new system. Looks good though and it is a lot more smooth than this time last year.

There is also the below:

  • Delivery Boxed missions(either one box from Point A to B or collect boxes from A B C and deliver to D or Delivery volatile cargo where you either have x amount of time to deliver else the box explodes or you cant use Quantum travel to travel and deliver the boxes.
  • FPS bunker and Cave missions
  • Various Pirate missions where you interact with some NPC's directly.
  • Investigation and search missions(Search for cargo or a person in a derelict crashed ship on planet surface or in deep space)
  • Comms array missions where you scan and deactiate drones that are blocking a comms array satalite.
  • 890 jump mission
  • Bounty missions all have rep system( you go from killing basic bucaneer fighters all the way to finally going toe to toe with a idriss)
I may have missed some stuff there but that is a lot of stuff you can do in the game atm that will keep you occupied for a bit.

Obviously if you have done the above a lot and is burned out, thats fine and its no different to getting burned out on any other game(for example i and many are burned out on valheim).

3.14 will have two things you can do.
  • Nine tails lockdown dynamic event
  • Xenothreat remastered dynamic event

Anyways a **** ton of stuff just been added to the roadmap!!

TDLR, its all related to Server meshing and AI!!!

The roadmaps mean nothing and can be changed on a whim. Haven’t you learned this yet?

Don't get me wrong I'm not slagging the game off at all but there's still a long way to go. As you said I've been playing it solid for what 3-4 months so yeah burnt out from it hence the dream of another system somewhere different to go and explore.
