******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

In January, CIG laid out a startlingly ambitious five-year plan which it said would see it developing the "sequel and sequels for Squadron 42" within that timeframe. (Squadron 42 is Star Citizen's single-player spin-off, which lacks a release date and is currently seven years behind schedule.)

I was a very early backer also. Can still remember the CR sales pitch and the "I am a PC game" video. Massively looked forward to SQ42 and a developer that didnt care about dumbing down for consoles etc

What a total and utter let down. CR is either an incredibly inept project manager or a con artist of the highest tier - or possibly both.

The alarm bells started ringing when the project just kept getting bigger and bigger. Then the original team were suddenly "moving on" and he was employing his wife and brother in senior roles. Next he was off reliving his movie director fantasy again etc etc etc

Now here we are with the foundation still not built correctly but lots of flashy "nice to haves" to keep the Lemons paying up. The same bugs in the game from the days of the hangar release and it still runs like a turkey. tell the punters you are working on this amazing new tech fix that will sort all the problems but it means you need to rework the stuff you have already done. Release a new ship commercial and repeat....

I have deleted it and wont be re-installing should it ever release . Just too bitter about it now to get any enjoyment out of it.

current progress would argue that point w/ you, lol.

What's not doable?

A bit lol indeed, but... if you have the tech finished, should be doable a game every couple of years - at least on the PS side.

really???? :D That may be so Chris but....

You kind of proved the point I was making here.
3 very pretty screen shots. No actual content or space combat on show.
1 screen shot being a very pretty cloud, presumably showing off some volumemtric algorithm with actual particals in motion using a cloud based api, attatched to actual space data provided from jupiter by nasa ... and no actual space ships.

I have some of that on my youtube channel

Sorry that you missed the Xenothreat pve event that happens around the clouds in space

seemingly the stuff RSI still haven't been able to do after all these years.

Like:

64Bit coordinates system?
Procedural planet generation?
Travel anywhere in system without a load-screen or instancing, even space to planet surface?
Movable Physics Grids?
Deformable Physics Grids?
Server side objects container streaming?
Client side objects container streaming?
Planet scale volumetric clouds?
Volumetric clouds in space up to 250,000KM in diameter?

Vulkan and their own proprietary API is coming online

I `backed` this game, in fact I have a golden ticket. I never expect to play it now.
I was promised a game combining the best bits of wing commander and elite, with squad based combat, different classes of ships, a player influenced economy and a campaign I could drop in and out of as a single player or in a group with my buddies, a mission system and voice comms.
You do have these things. When was the last time you played it?
The economy thing is rudimentary, but prices fluctuate and there's supply and demand.

Not sure what you're on about with your other comment regarding the screenshots not showing space combat as some kind of proof of something..

how many generations of developers do you think will work on this game and retire handing over the baton to the next before it's a game and not a tech demo?

I hope they leave good dev notes and not spaghetti code like eve-online ended up with

I bet ED doesn't have eyeball wetness.
The eyeball wetness looks game changing though! :D

That being covered in last week's ISC made me crack up laughing. Such a tiny thing, that will barely ever get seen with it being an FPS game where characters are wearing helmets all the time! I really want this game to turn out great, but CIG aren't really painting a good picture of progress right now! I'm glad I've only paid minimal money for it and can happily say I've had my money's worth already.

Its bottom of the barrel stuff isn't it?
Focus is now "exclusively on SQ42" so now we are supposed to get excited about coffee shop vendors and eyeball wetness.

Yeah, it is - but I'll take it with a pinch of salt. Not like the guy doing some character art is going to be also doing the server code!
The timing of announcing such a minimal thing just after cutting back on the roadmap and saying they're doing minimal work on the PU until SQ42 is done makes it look far worse.

I feel like key/core stuff isn't getting really introduced now cause they have SQ42 they finally realise needs to get out door before 2030 and with server meshing, making what is in game now work is taking up a lot of few time do they putting in filler stuff.

In terms of the eye wetness, what was rubbish is how bad the eyelashes and eyebrows got! Like multiple steps backwards.
