******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Thanks, that sounds promising then.
Im actually planning on upgrading to something in the AM5/Zen4 family when that releases. Hopefully i'll have a new GPU by that point and have a couple of months to understand what the situation is and where i'd benefit from upgrading.
I just went in for 10min which ended up being ~2h, and the CPU usage got as high as 85-90% (20-50% at times, too), but im not sure if that implies im actually fine with the 3600X, or if its currently being bottlenecked by the GPU and just happens to be close to the limit on CPU. RAM is often an issue (24GB - already stole 8GB from my server for SC), but i wont buy more when i know im moving to DDR5, and wont need that much in the server.
Oh, I forgot to say I'm running a 3600x @ 4.2 with 16GB of mem atm. I've not looked at the numbers but it maxes the cpu. I had the gfx settings down at med for a while until I realised the 3080 was often down at the 60% usage range. I've also been considering a cpu and mem upgrade, however, the current cost of a new cpu is almost the same price as a VKB Gladiator Evo stick. The new Ryzen chips are due out at Q4 as well I believe which should drop prices further.

Unlikely to be players doing it though, mostly be NPCs as there won't be that many players around you even if they get server meshing working at some point.
I've seen some streamers do it against players with the jamming as it as currently. They were intercepting people doing some bugged trade route, AV gear I think it was. So they were interdicting people in M2's and asking for money / killing.

I'm using a Ryzen 5800X + RTX 2070 Super, that seems to be a good fit for Star Citizen at 1440P Very High, mainly 50 to 110 FPS, except where there are Volumetric Clouds, MicroTech, Hurston and worst of all Orison where it can be as low as 17 FPS.
Other things that help, 32GB of RAM, the fastest SSD you can get, the faster the better.

I have Volumetric Clouds turned off completely, at least until they port them over to Vulkan or something, people with apparently very different GPU's seem to get similar performance, i think it might have something to do with FP32 throughput, a 1080 and 2070 seem very similar with Volumetric Cloud performance, they have similar FP32, a 3080 has a very high FP32 and get much higher Volumetric Cloud performance.

Hopefully when they get ported off DX11 to Gen12 or Vulkan they will run much more efficiently.

The best CPU for Star Citizen is the Ryzen 5800X3D.

Haha I know the 5800X3D is a beast but didn't expect that big a jump. Not sure I can justify the price to myself though. :)

Ended up in jail and figured out the missions to reduce the sentence. Far faster than trying to mine. Hadn't realised how large the jail caves were though, quite linear it seems but impressive.

Yeah SC loves Cache which is of no surprise. Am interested to see how the next gen of AMD/Intel CPUs go with SC and that tbh. I will probably wait another generation after mind tbh. If they keep jumping in performance as they have been then it could be an average 40-50% faster CPU compared to my 5950x by then!

Yeah, the 5800X3D is very tempting, but mainly with a view to waiting for a Zen4 version. I dont use the PC for anything CPU intensive, so an R5 or R7 is plenty.

Moving to AM5 with DDR5 & PCIe5 makes more sense to me than investing in AM4 items, particularly as i need more RAM. It might be considerably more expensive, but i dont like the idea of spending more on something thats reached the end of its cycle, and i should be in a position to buy whatever i need in AM5. Waiting even longer for a 7800X3D-like processor would be quite testing, but it might also help me evaluate what i want as a Mobo and let AM5 boards and RAM prices settle, too.

Those slides really do highlight the benefits in SC. I knew from initial reviews it looked good, but about on par with the 12900KS (at almost twice the price), but a 40-50% benefit in SC is extremely impressive.

I'm struggling a lot with game crashes.

Usually the log refers to "Exception EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION(0xC0000005)" which searching tells you could be almost anything causing it. Most results point to XMP causing issues, but I crash with or without XMP being set. I've ran MemTest and passed with and without XMP.

I updated GPU driver which seemed to fix it as no crashes for days, but today it seems to be back to crashing.

Anyone else experienced and solved this?

In my experience it's been almost always been the memory timings I was running causing access violations. They can be stable while running memtest / prime95 etc. and still be unstable in some games. I always found StarCraft2 disliked cpu/mem overclocks. Unfortunately it is quite a generic error for finding the root cause.

Since you've dropped the memory speed / timings down and are still getting the crashes. I would try the same with the cpu if it's OC'd. Then a full reinstall of the game as well. It ends up being a checklist of things to work though. The latest gfx drivers are also often not the most stable/ highest fps unless you're on the latest cards.

CPU and GPU are both stock, no overclocks. 5800X3D and a 3080.

My friends are on very similar setups, 5800X3D with a 2080 Super, and a 5800X with a 3090, but don't seem to have any issues. We're all using 32 GB of memory as well.

I'll probably try the full reinstall when I get a chance next week.

I've also tried deleting the shader cache.

TOO MUCH WORK AND NOT IMPORTANT.

And so it starts to reveal its self...

yup i saw that.

Basically StarField is what SC was going to be before CIG discovered that they can seamlessly land on planets from space.

This is why CIG promised back then 100 star systems because it would have been very easy to achieve that doing it the way starfield and CIG originally designed it to do.

Alien week this week with some ships for sale for £££.

Also a video showing what they have on the Banu Merchantman. Does sound as if they've drastically changed it a few times now though.
