******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Come to the conclusion that this game just hates me now. I've been unable to complete a single damn mission in multiple hours of gameplay across a few play sessions.

Today's story features taking one of the Bunker trial missions to help Crusader Security. I get shot by the turret on the way down, so presume I can shoot it back and get a CS2 Crimestat as a thanks. Cheers game for giving me a heads up on that. Didn't bother even trying the mission at that point, figured the security guys would only shoot me too. So went to Grim Hex to dump my stuff and fly a space combat mission. Turn up to the mission location and there is nothing there, nothing spawned after waiting a while either. Eventually some police turn up and ask me to surrender, ok sure - let's clear the crimestat.
Spawn in prison, spend however long it takes running down the mine to any Oxygen station to fix it and get out of prison. This was fun as the mouse pointer in the interaction view was missing at this point, so I was having to click wildly at things to get it to work, eventually succeed. Leave prison, only to spawn over at a station above Hurston, with a CS1 Crimestat.... RAGE.

Just nothing seems to work for me right now. Impossible to have any enjoyment. It's made all the worse by so many others clearly having an entirely different game experience to me...

Don't get me wrong I won't play those grind your life away games either  Game design just seems to have got very lazy in recent times. I like the scope and ambition of SC but it was too much sim and frustration for me. Maybe they'll improve it before the 2040 release (jk) but it's still a bit too hardcore for me, shame as it looks great.

It really isn't that much sim, is more about bad controls and not much effort put into 1st player experience. Things, hopefully, will change.

And look at the dire state that released in.

It was rushed, their tech ambitions was/is limited to planet landing and random planet generation. Add on top not the best story or gameplay and you have that. Is not great now either, still lacks content, gameplay, etc.

yea but it will be a huge grind compared to if you couldn't buy them with real world $$$, because they need to oncentivise peopke to spend money which usually means making a game less fun and less rewarding for time spent

How do you know is a huge grind? Up to some point in can be subjective. It would be a huge grind to unlock guns and perks and whatnot in the new BF game if you start from zero while a lot of people already have those. The point is to enjoy the game, the progress, not get ASAP everything...

You don't necessarily need to own a banu merchantman ship in order to go on one or fly one.

If you join a org that has one, you are most likely going to be one of the crew members on one. Or if you are doing a mission and joined a npc faction that has one then again you will be one of the crew members and maybe even fly it

I'm not trying to defend the game or convince you of anything.
That wasn't talking about you particularly, just that when raising these issues I rarely come across the attitude of let's fix this, mostly workarounds. Once I get a new GPU I'm going to give it another go and see what improvements have been made. Given the amount of time and money expended in SC I'd like to see one part really polished to show what it could be. How are the developers at responding to player feedback?

I don't closely follow the development of the game, so I don't really know how they respond to feedback tbh. I do know that the awkward new player experience is a very common complaint and well known, though.

On the RSI page, they do have a guide system where experienced players can volunteer their services to help new players, as well as all the youtubers that do their guides. I'd imagine that at some stage there will be a proper ingame tutorial that's much better than the current hint system.

Thanks I'll have a look at that. I perhaps just need to play with other people that know their way around.

On the last roadmap update, cig has said that they are going to resume working on the player interaction experience.

The thing about this feature is that if you implement it now in the games current state for say "how to do cargo runs and sell commodity", they would literally need to scrap that for 3.18 as that comes with a whole new way of doing cargo runs and commmody selling.

There's no right or wrong really and I think they do add some player interaction stuff when new gameplay loops come in a form of text hint messages like you see for refuel which was added in 3.17

As for how they respond to queries from players, it's OK but could be better. It's hard to control and reply to say you're specific query because

1. Cig at present is not some indy games company anymore, they are huge now,.
2. This game is way more popular now than a couple of years ago...

This is why they seem to focus a lot on creating stable builds in live servers as best as possible

Yep, that really is the best way to learn the ropes.
I've personally done it many times with new players that I've randomly met in game via global chat.

It got to the point where my org started calling it Petey's tour bus :D

Sounds more promising. What type of game is it aiming to become? I've a fair bit but in my mind I haven't really put in to one category or another.

You can't put it in any category It's its own unique premise.

If I where you, I would until the 4.0 patch drops.

If all goes as well as they intend it to be. It's going to be quite a big popular patch.

Hopefully it release this time next year

Part of the problem is their focus appears to be almost solely on SQ42 and not the Persistent Universe. While things are filtering down into the PU, the player count and popularity has reached a point where they need to put real focus on it. They can't keep putting things off until either SQ42 is out or the entire feature is complete. I think they've realised this from what I've been reading. The new cargo rework is a good example. Massive change to how cargo works and yet there's many features of it still to come.

While the new player experience was something I've complained about as well, I also feel you should be looking into streams / vids to find out things considering the state of the game. I'm always a bit surprised with how many people I've seen that seem to throw money at it without knowing anything.

I think the best way for a newcomer to join and play is to team up with a experienced player and play together. But some people actually prefer to play solo or can't engage and get on voice chat etc with someone so as you stated, watching videos and streams is the best way to learn if you're a solo player.

Completely agree even if that's not what I did. :D Even still there's more than a few good getting started vids, a wee bit of research goes a long way.

I've joined a couple discords to lurk and see what's being said / people jumping onto voice. I'm slowly getting used to flying :D

I totally get that not everyone is the most socially outgoing or confident, especially with a new group of people. However, for anyone that's hesitant, you'll find that most groups are very welcoming and playing with other people is absolutely the best way to enjoy this.

I'll do that, perhaps drop in now and then to familiarise myself with things.

Its CRYENGINE, the action key has always been F. :p

Haha That never caught me out but the scroll down on the elevators did. I also can't count the amount of times I climbed out of my Titan when I was trying to press the menu button for the left mdf. :s

I think there's enough of us currently playing where we should have a wee meet up one evening on discord and in game.

We really should, maybe even some of the sceptics can join us?
