******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Big post from a Dev about the UI updates that they showed off and the reasons it had so much wasted space. tl;dr They only showed off what they think they'll have finished for the patch, there's more features to come.

This is the biggest red flag for SC to me, selling in game assets for ridiculous amounts. I'm old school, you buy/subscribe to the game and that's it.
I understand.

But many games especially mobile phones have people spending thousands on them.

SC is not making anywhere near the same amount of sales for game assets as the majority of video games.

And don't forget, this is optional. You can and will be able to buy that ship in game

It's your money, I wouldn't try to tell you what to spend it on. However those mobile games are a good example, just designed to extract cash from people. I also prefer all items in game to be earnt in game. I remember games before RMT and gold farming, microtransactions, it was better ;)

An acceptable compromise to actually release the game.
Lol, NMS has planet landing as well...

If they are not pay yo win and can be had in game for a "realistic" amount of grind is fine.

Don't get me wrong I won't play those grind your life away games either  Game design just seems to have got very lazy in recent times. I like the scope and ambition of SC but it was too much sim and frustration for me. Maybe they'll improve it before the 2040 release (jk) but it's still a bit too hardcore for me, shame as it looks great.

It's funny when reading things like this cause it's miles away from the sim and most the community that actively discusses it keeps complaining about how arcade the game is.

There isn't a lot that is 'hardcore' that I can think of tbh. Anything particular that you've found to be that way for you?

The whole new player experience was terrible, I know it's still unreleased, it would aid getting in new players. The ship controls, flying and landing was very frustrating. Basically the barrier to entry is too high. I'm sure some will love it and the long term veterans will of course flex how easy it all is but that won't get you new players. It's a million miles from arcade play.

Yes, it's well known that the new player experience is 'challenging'. However, the controls aren't that complicated. All you really needed to do was watch a new player guide and you'd have been fine.

yea but it will be a huge grind compared to if you couldn't buy them with real world $$$, because they need to oncentivise peopke to spend money which usually means making a game less fun and less rewarding for time spent

That was after watching a new player guide. I can understand people defending games they like but that doesn't help improve them. I'm someone that wants to enjoy the game let alone someone that needs convincing. The navigating to other planets was also horrible. I hear that is being improved though, hopefully more intuitive and doesn't need time spent reading guides to figure out.
