******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I can’t say it’s been any worse than mining on a planet, it’s probably most frustrating when you encounter a cluster, which are a bit more common in the belt.
it’s no great hardship to jump to another part of the belt and have another crack though.

I fit the fasted quantum drive and there is still plenty of time to get the ship stored.

It's clearly had a good amount more love in development side than the Avenger has. I've run around one in game briefly but didn't register all the kitchen doodads etc. The angular theme works well for it although I still prefer my Avenger I think. There's just something classic about the space shuttle vibe it has :)

Some interesting changes being made to clearing crime stats. You'll have to do it at Kareah and it's now populated by Crusader security.

Like I said, what Insomniac did with Spiderman on PS4 hardware is far more impressive a technical achievement.

Cig have certainly pushed the envelope on monetisation, but frankly, what they've achieved in terms of tech with the time and budget they have is distinctly unimpressive.

I have given an explanation for my reasoning, i'm going to need a lot more now that just repeating the same sweeping statement.

I'm a principal game programmer with a specialism in AAA open-world gameplay systems, so I talk from a position of (some) authority/experience when it comes to these things, is that any good? Insomniac's streaming tech is super-impressive considering the hardware they work with, that's a technical achievement.

No its not. Ghost of tshusmia is

And spiderman is a single player game...

We are all what we want to be on the internet.

If you are who what you say you are you should have no trouble in describing what the difference is and how one is "more impressive"
A good faith argument consists of good reasoning. So far all you have done is double down on the same sweeping statement.

I've worked on AAA open world titles on PS4/XB1 hardware with fast player traversal options. It's hard as nails and needs an incredible amount of work touching every single aspect of the game to create an acceptable experience within the limited memory budget and agonisingly slow storage you have to pull assets from. Being able to zip across Manhattan as spidey on a PS4 is incredibly impressive to anyone that understand the tech behind it.
You're not a programmer of any sort, if you were you would know there is a massive difference between a singleplayer and multiplayer game world.

I can make a singleplayer game in Unreal Engine, its easy, literally anyone can do it. with a bit of tuition my 6yo nephew could do it.
Uh-huh . Well this has been fun but I have lunch to make before I get back to this particularly gnarly movement replication bug I'm working on.

lol, i think you might be right.....
Yea and that streams in perfectly fine along with the rest of the planet lol...
The only pop up/stream i see in Area 18 or in most landing zones is when you reshly installed the game and launching it for the first time.
After that, its fine.

People dont realize how advanced and awsome object container streaming is and now they are about to hook that up to the persistance database and network meshing

Has it crossed either of your minds that the reason you disagree with what I'm saying might be down to you not actually having any experience of the subject at hand?

Nothing comes close to even a fraction of what we are talking about, you're talking about a game that seamlessly streams a city less than 7KM square being more impressive than an entire planet being seamlessly streamed from 60,000,000 KM away right down to the micro level detail you have to press your nose against to see.

That needs a lot of explaining to convince anyone, you're not doing that.

A very dense world, traversed at very high speed, on a PlayStation 4, and they actually shipped the game. That's impressive.

64-bit co-ordinates? Yawn.

As I said in my original post....if you understand the tech, you'll be impressed by different things.

I agree with @jonneymendoza there is nothing impressive about it.

its 7KM of swinging between buildings.

High speed? This is speed. it covers the distance of the Spiderman Manhattan map in about 35 seconds.
