******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Coming from an Eve background, I agree with AvengerOne's thoughts that people shouldn't expect to avoid PvP. Especially flying into know conflict areas solo in a non-combat ship. Limited sympathy there imo.
However, as pointed out above, some players backed the game when there was the idea of a PvP toggle. Plus the game is maybe not as a clear as it could be on warning you about PvP. Thing is, ignoring the PvP element, imagine it's NPC combat ships shooting you whilst trying to solo Jumptown. Is that then fine? Should you expect to go and do a high reward activity and not face any risk? I think not personally.

Personally (and i only ever speak for myself) i have no problem with risky areas in games, or even the potential for massively lobsided encounters to happen...... but yes, npcs jumping me is absolutely fine. My experiences of other players in MP games is just generally not a positive one, and the more competetive the game the worst it seems to be (had some really unpleasant experiences in DOTA2 and counter strike, and had my fill of berks in elite dangerous)

. I am not gonna argue that you are wrong and i am right after all it is purely subjective. I will say this however.......... EVE has less than zero interest to me and it is highly unlikely I would ever enjoy a MP experience that an EVE player is looking for..... it just isnt my bag.

that is why imo different servers would be a good thing, that way i dont spoil anyone elses game and they dont spoil mine.

The problem as i see it is it is actually a lot more work to make plausible enjoyable npcs. If it is on the players to make the content that would take some of the pressure off CIG so i am not that surprised if that is the way SC goes.

edit.... i didnt think i was imagining things. I suppose it could go the way of the PvP slider however as they are charging money then maybe not.

Didn't know there was meant to be a pvp slider type system and I'm not sure how that would be implemented. The changes the game is going through is a huge issue while trying to talk about this especially when CIG don't seem to have a firm grasp of what the end will be. While I don't want pvp forced on me I feel this game does has to have 'world' pvp. They do need to get the AI good enough that there are safe(r) areas where npc's will prevent/ limit conflicts. Simmilar / same as EVE security zones. It's also very important that you know what you're getting into. It's one of the issues they currently have with Ninetails and jumptown.

I've been told that guys in the Org have tried to organise Org vs Orgs and more than a few times and the other side didn't want to for some really poor reasons. One was because 3 members of the org had their CIG profile redacted. I've seen multiple times general chat getting upset that a small group has held jumptown. Very small sample size etc etc. of course.

Cargo Refactor enabled in their 3.18 patch including it seems having ships be physical engines after they're destroyed. And loot boxes will drop from destroyed ships; they've turned ships into loot piñatas.

Even if a ship only drops 10% of it's cargo, I can easily see people going for the kill instead of trying to board and plunder.

Assuming of course the code is good enough not to kill servers. :D

I would rather board and plunder to get 100% loot than risk blowing up for 10% loot. I think the hull being still there is something after 3.18 but before physicalised damage is complete from what said though.

Right, I’ve melted down everything and got $230 to play with. I'm thinking of getting an Eclipse at IAE and then possibly melting it down and re-buy at a later date. What's an Eclipse like? Is it good for combat missions or is it more for ganking other players?

I hear that SQ42 has been now split in 2-3 instalments. Does backers from around 8 or so years ago get all of them? I have this package:

very early backers get the 1st 2

later backers get 1. I can't remember the exact cut off.... I missed out by a gnats pube. I want to say it was around the $6 million mark where the split happened but I am somewhat guessing . (this relatively is very early in the timeline)

no one gets the 3rd episode (iirc)

edit. just checked. seems my old memory is not so bad after all

Wow. That is a bloody early cut off. I don’t think I made that either. *******, as if it is not enough all the milking they have done and continue to do. I think I backed it when they were around 22 million. But that was in 2013…

Star Citizen will transcend storage media. When the project first started, mechanical HDD's were the primary PC storage media. Development will span the entire history of SSD and be released when holographic storage media is mainstream.

Yeah. Makes me laugh they have not even been able to release SQ42 yet and they are not even confident at this stage to give a release date yet suggesting it won’t even be out next year either.

My Intel Optane was even advertised as very fast storage for the game, yet by the time the game is out it may not even fit on 280gb

Lots of new content for 3.18. I just hope they manage to get some level of server/AI performance boost in so we can enjoy those new derelict sites properly, and then for the race tracks that the Gen12 tweaks improve fps! Lots of new areas to explore is great news though.
