******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Its open development, you can play it right now, its incomplete but fully functional and can be temperamental, i mean look at the NPC's standing chairs ^^^^, just one of the many peculiarities of the game, its become a bit of a joke that we don't even notice them anymore but when they don't stand on chairs we do notice them and wonder if something has gone wrong.

At this point I’m getting very frustrated with the bugs and I’m done. I tried doing a few cargo runs last night in the Constellation Taurus (just to try it out) and got to my first destination, came down the elevator which proceeded to disappear into the ground, and I was unable to select it as a result, no problem I’ll just open the cargo bay right? When doing so my ship flipped upside down and I ended up falling through space. Restart and back we go waiting about 15 minutes for my ship to be available, then try again. This time I get out without issue and go to the trade console but it won’t show my ship no matter what. I tried getting my ship closer, further away to no avail. I’ll try somewhere else, which did show a ship but not mine, so I’ll go back to the initial place and try again. This time it shows after a bit faffing around so I load up to the selling point. I get out and the elevator goes through the ground only this time I go with it and end up flying through space again. Lost everything. Back I go waiting for my ship (I refuse to pay) I bed a drink so take off my helmet select the drink but it won’t drink it no matter what, so end up having to try at the shop and after 3 failed attempts manage to get to 100%. Go back to the fleet selection screen and it won’t work, it’s showing someone else’s fleet on every screen. Manage to get one working and we are set, back we go to the buying point again. Same thing again, can’t get my ship to show up. I eventually get it sorted and we are off. I get to the selling point and same again showing another ship. Eventually get it to show and try to sell but it’s just buffering then error processing. Try again still nothing. Go back to my ship and the cargo is gone but no payment.

I think the idea is great but i find myself trying to work around broken things rather than playing the game. I’ve got passed the poor performance and having to disable E-Cores etc just to play it, but the simplest of things don’t work. Even going to prison, I didn’t spawn with a mining tool. I think hiding behind the “alpha” status doesn’t cut it after such a long time either. My first impression still stands after giving it a good go…..It’s a complete mess. The amount of times I’ve had to die or quit has nothing to do with being killed, it’s that the game breaks. No other game would get a pass so this shouldn’t either. It’s a truck simulator for die hard Star Trek fans, that’s completely broken.

The best thing is the community. People sometimes give away millions, which is the only reason I stuck with it to see what it was like with better ships etc because there is no way I was paying real money to actually keep hold of a ship, let’s face it you need to get anywhere, and good luck saving up enough money by yourself with just a starter ship. The bugs alone will get you before anything else does. Oh and if you do manage it with others I would recommend, you will lose it all and have to start all over again when the wipe comes (whenever that is, let’s face it, that’s anyone’s guess because it keeps getting pushed back).

Don’t mean to offend anyone, but this is my opinion after giving the game a fair stab. I’m not willing to pay another penny or put in another hour of my time until this is actually playable.

Fair enough. :)

It is pretty bad at the moment, 3.17 was always a bad build and its only gotten worse the more its aged.

To be fair, it's not like other titles that have been fully released yet were in just as bad a state. This is nowhere near release and no-one has even pretended otherwise. At best, it's a playable tech demo, nothing more.
You can save up enough money to buy the big ships just playing solo in only a starter ship. I did that in my Aurora LN... It just takes a lot of grind and effort in the high paying combat missions.

As for the mining tool, I thought you had to click Agree on the terminal in your cell before you get one?

That made me laugh.

The combat missions were fun, apart from the ones you accept then head towards them and all you hear is a screaming voice ahhhhhhhhhh and he’s dead before you can even get to him.

The mining tool is supposed to be in your backpack apparently, but I’ve been to jail enough times now to know that it’s just not there. I also agreed on the terminal. Again I was wanting to try everything because it has great potential, but some things are just broken.

I just never really felt any sort of point in doing anything because most of the things I put time into and couldn’t complete because something was broken. It’s a demo to jump on with a group and have a laugh, and that’s where it shines for now.

Don’t get me wrong I think this could be something very special. There’s not any other game I’ve refunded, to buy again within 48 hours to try and work around bugs and performance issues. It has real potential. I just hope they continue improving it to the point where these silly bugs aren’t so frequent.

Some patches/servers are worse than others. Seems like this one's just one of the poorer examples, although I haven't experienced anything like the stuff you've gone through in the admittedly little play time I've had on 3.17.5.
Just leave it alone for a bit and see if the next one's any better.

The frame rate is worse also after the latest update unfortunately. Don’t know if you’ve noticed?

I'm looking forward to the speed / flight changes in 3.18 (I think). It should be a very positive change. There's also other fixes such as the weird non-existant bubbles that randomly throw you in different directions. This one I've heard is to do with multicrew ships being in the area.

There's quite a few of the Org that have taken a break or are only doing our events, waiting until the next patch. The hope is we'll start to see more frequent patches over the next year as well, since more of the backend tools have been finished.

One thing i have noticed in dog fighting with 3.18 is what seems to me some sort of collision avoidance thing, if you approach a ship too fast and get too close, especially head on, like jousting, the ship often turns away from the on coming ship without your input, the NPC's behave in the same way.

This is perhaps a fix for the complaint that the NPC ship plays chicken rather too much, in previous builds, it will come right at you at speed and not budge, if you don't get out of its way it will ram you, so its always you who must yield in this game of chicken, now not only will the NPC often move, tho not always, your own ship behaves like a car with collision avoidance, it does feel like the ship has a mind of its own as you can feel it change direction suddenly, it can also happen if its coming in from the top, or the bottom, or the side where you can't necessarily see the NPC.

3.19 has already been mentioned. They confirmed in a recent ISC that we should see new derelict point of interest locations in the next patch
