Is there a known workaround for shops not loading any inventory? In the top right of the shop screen where it says your name usually, that's blank too.
Normally when terminals don't work either, it's that individual one that's broken, try one of the others or the servers going to die soon. If the server is starting to give up the ghost then the only option is to try and jump on another. Normally by picking a different region and switching back. If you need to r_display 2 will give you the server name for you to check.

I'm half tempeted to get this game, but i'm a bit concerned about the state its in, I'm aware its alpha and will be for god knows how long, but im still kinda tempted after readading up on it... what are peoples advice that have purchased it, any regrets?

Its difficult to advise in this way, i play it a lot, others don't like it.

Stability is up and down, depends on how old the server is, sometimes its pretty stable, sometimes its not, sometimes you may crash out of the game.

We have just had a free fly event, where you can play it for free for a couple of days to a week or so, they also give you a couple of ships to use, but its unlikely there will be another one for a while.

If you have some money to burn, £45 will get you in, its all you need really, other ships are available to by in game with in game credits, when you earn them.

All i can say it try it, they do have a return policy if you're not happy.

Thanks, i'm still kinda tempted as it looks right up my street, a bit like eve but more accessible and better!

I did read because its alpha, if you buy ships with cash earned in game, you lose them when it goes live or when theres a big update but if you buy ships for real cash (the prices are crazy so i wont be doing that) then you keep them, is that right?

Also i'm a bit confused about the insurance mechanic, if you don't buy it, presumably with space dollars or whatever the in game currency is, does that mean you lose everything if you get killed, or the game bugs out?

Sorry for the questions...

The gameplay is nothing like eve from what I remember of it. It's all first person etc. I'd say the gameplay is more like the newer Fallouts than Eve really.

Don't worry about insurance, even CIG don't know what it'll really be in the end. The idea will be it'll be basic hull insurance stock weapons that it came attached with when the ship is lost. There will be higher levels we can buy in game to cover upgraded components etc. etc. Currently though it does nothing. If you lose a ship you run go back to a terminal and claim it again no matter the insurance on it. You can pay (credits) to speed up the wait time a bit but then you have the ship back with everything it was equipped with.

If possible, you want lifetime insurance though of course. My starter is the Avenger Titan which I love as a great wee ship and it came with 120 Month Insurance; 10 years. And it's not ticking down yet. ;)

There are fairly regular wipes on patches where some or all of your stuff is lost that you've bought in game.

I've been playing regularly but a lot of the time it's organised events the Org (clan) has setup. I hardly played the last big patch as the stability was awful. It's better again now, so there are times where I take a break, wait for patches / content and jump back in.

Thanks for the answer! I might hang fire then and see how it develops, I like the look of Starfield too, but the MMO aspect of star citizen is interesting as ive never really played an mmo before.

The missions episode was rubbish, not sure what you all excited about. Same location for the current bunkers with gamey waves of defenders getting more difficult, nah I am alright. Fine for AC game part, not in the PU. The missions generally all pewpew still with nothing new actually coming. No proper hauling missions with the Hull C on way, no hacking still. Needing to actually have things where bunkers are more than mini-map arenas tbh. They need redesigning (the current ones) to actually fit gameplay into the styles that they were first envisioned to be.

Hyrdoponics with nothing to do and been there for 6-7yrs etc. Where are the meeting NPCs at these UGF and doing some sort of trade/diplomatic mission where you need to actually travel to say retrieve an artifact etc.

The copy/paste of platforms doesn't add anything and already was stupid realistically. The barge one sounded interesting but it would be excellent to have that as a dockable location that a Hurc or Hull C could purchase from as well as just going in PewPew and have the rep decide how you can achieve the mission by having the NPCs in control allowing docking. The ability to spoof things so you look like a friendly ship to allow docking bu then change to be hostile upon entering and engaging NPCs and such. Depth of writing for missions and the modules proposed just seem low quality.

is that really the case? i mean, i am no expert - in either SC or MMOs, but i thought SC was precisely being made to be an MMO
It is. Don't listen to that person. There's reason why many have that person on there ignore list.

Right now. Each server has around 100 players.

The economy is static but the stock levels are dynamic and shared across every server (that's the mmo part implemented at the moment)

Cig is just waiting for tech to join/mesh the servers together so that in theory there will thousands of players in a star system but split up into multiple meshed servers.

It's an online multiplayer game at best, it is not an MMO. But hey, go ahead and make your own mind up.

:)
i do have the game, i went in fairly early on however not playing at moment as do not want to risk burnout before .............. i wont say the game is launched because that is a liquid terms in games these days, but i would like to wait until the majority of my in game progress is safe from wipes......... For now i just dip into the forum and watch a few youtube videos now and then to keep interest levels up

That's your best bet, wait until it's actually released - if it ever is. In that way you'll save your time and won't be at risk of buying more ships.

:)

200 player testing was going on in the ptu the other day. Aria’s discord profile states that their chief of marketing for CIG...

You realise MMO is generally seen as more than 64 multiplayer (although actually just lots of players, 64 became common as that where thing slime COD, Battlefield etc used to top out generally) and it have persistence in that the game world still runs whilst you are not playing unlike general multiplalyee games.

What do you think makes a game an MMO?

SC as it sits now is technically as defined by MMO standards already one.
