******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

A nice short vid on base building and their main tool for it.

Also noticed in the monthly report:
July saw the Feature team experimenting with skill progression, which involves players performing specific in-game actions to make them better at similar activities. For example, building up strength will allow players to carry heavier objects with fewer penalties, while performing takedowns will open access to quicker and quieter action sets.

Those torps are the business aren't they?

Makes bounties and ranking rep up so bloody quick, Only wish the pilot had control over a few of the turrets and it would then be perfect.

I do like that you can actually up close see the size of these monster size 9 torps and when you change them out for a different brand it also shows, Nice feature.

I wonder if we'll get a size 10 torp equipped ship at some point.

Those physically are the torps, if you stand there when fired you can watch the mechanism move, the tops drop out and fly off.

This is an interesting take on it, when this video was made, 3.18, it was very broken, its much better now. but watch all of it, he does have a conclusion that most people just wouldn't get, but those that do....

I love the missile trail, where you see it suddenly jink 90 degrees to hit the target. It's so StarCitizen. :D

What's Star Citizen is the fact that they meddled the torp beautifully with great attention to detail, the mechanism that holds it in the ship which is beautifully animated.
And you can see all of that, the physical torpo get moved in to position in the ships mechanism, drop it out, the engines ignite and it fly's off, you can whats it fly until it hits the target a explode.

Nothing is faked, just to give you that extra level of immersion.

Yup defo a lot of things are not faked in this game.

The immersion is soo ******* good in this

Until you stay nose down towards the ground, completely still in a storm :D
A couple of years ago they addressed that.

On planets if you went slow enough or stopped the ship went in to a hover mode, you had to keep it level, if you tiled left, right, back or fore the ship would move in that direction, tilt it too far and it would crash to the ground, basically helicopter mode, or Harrier jump jet mode.

Every one, other than serious flight sim fans, hated it, and i mean REALLY hated it, most people understood the logic behind it, CIG did their best to explain the logic behind it, but the backlash was so intense by the next patch it was gone.

They should have kept it as an advanced flight model - you have one in ArmA 3 for helicopters and an advanced driving mode for vehicles in Mafia 2 at least. :)

Is super weird and immersion breaking to stand still, like a rock, during a huge storm without the ship being affected. Hopefully will address this again later on. Sticks out like a sore thumb.

Ship in wind is an odd one, it is a thing but i think its intermittent, it doesn't always work but i have been blown around in wind, its quite annoying when you're mole or prospector mining, oh yes, you do get blown around.

Damn, that sounds amazing. Shame they got rid of that. Would make ships way less overpowering at events like Jumptown and be a lot of fun to fly in.
Hopefully when they get more flight mechanics in like aerodynamics they'll reduce the vertical thrust of non-VTOL ships make it a little less lame than it can be right now.

I'm in two minds about it, i get that being nose down floating in the air 20 feet above Hurston is daft, that's some serious forward facing manoeuvring thrusters on that ship, right? Big fat MSR 160 degrees nose down and it just sits there effortlessly.

I'd be happy with a compromise where smaller ships like fighters can tilt to a limited extent without it moving, maybe 20 degrees off centre, larger ships like the MSR only 10 degrees, that way it feels and looks more realistic but with some freedom to tilt it around and small off centre movements don't have it drifting.

Gigantic ships like the Reclaimer should have a hard time just VTOL floating to begin with and shouldn't be able to tilt more that a few degrees without alarms blaring......

On a tangent i hate all spell checker plugins, the word thrusters apparently doesn't exist, comes up as spelled wrong and when you click on it it says "thrusts" run a google search on it and yep thrusters is a word, it does that a lot, especially with anything plural its like "nope, no such word" i'm bad at spelling, i'm also slightly dyslexic and hated English at school, i was better at maths, i like numbers, i hate letters, which is why i use them but more often than not i'm better at spelling than it is.
I miss the google tool bar, that has a spelling check in it which worked.

It did work like that, all sized ships did have varying degrees of angle they could pitch, it was just much smaller than the 10 degrees even. The thing you would have to balance is thruster use on the top surface of ship with under ship thrusters and that is all so the IFCS should be doing that for the pilot. All they needed to add was heat where the smaller manoeuvring thrusters are not made to be used for sustained flight like the rear thrusters of ships and thus if you tried to hover too long they would overheat and fail etc thus keeping the ability to hover on spot also limited.

It also means those alien ships with rotating mains would have that clear technical advantage and made sense. Absolute pain in butt they removed it tbh as was one of the best added flight systems there. They should have ignored backlash and let people deal with it tbh.

On tangent the spell checker built into edge is actually really good stock. It also flagging all your i'm not I'm and i not I in the quote text :D ;)

Edit: @humbug get going on Evo!! Go Go Go lol

That flight system sounds great, I'd love it to be more 'real' aka IL2 and other combat sims. I'd need to try it but I think it would be a big improvement on atmosphere fighting. I dislike that height comes down to either in space, for the light fighters or in atmo for the heavies. And you can't buzz the grass and try and lose them in canyons, get them to fly into the ground etc.
