******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Those are great effects. I wonder if they will licence the engine for other games, so much potential.
Is not that much about the engine as it is about the studio's willingness to add certain features.
It's safe to say we have a content draught due to citizencom coming up.

There is one piece of rumour floating around and this that cig will completely focus on squadron 42 and it's sequel and will outsource star citizen pu...

@TNA will be happy about that!

That makes no sense.

A lot are expecting a date for SQ42 to be announced at CitizenCon later in the year. As well as SQ42 going back on sale at a higher price.

CIG have already been primarily focused on SQ42 over the PU and as things are ready for proper testing we get it in the PU :D

We are hopeful but with the rumours of cig practically abandoning the pu, it's not good news for us who care mostly about the pu mmo side which I bet is 95 percent of the current star citizen player base.

Not sure why they need over a 1000 employees for a single player game...

They got it backwards.

Should have focused more on the pu, get the mmo part feature complete and then have a smaller team or even outsource team that just builds and adds new poi and content and then focus everyone else in sq 42

Which part makes no sense? The sequel to be exclusively made by cig and the pu made by a third party?

Or cig potentially announcing a release date?

Having another studio(s) working on the PU. They've shown so many tools so far is a bit unbelievable that they're unable to populate star systems. That really shouldn't be a problem.
Anyway, we should really have a small system with a planet and a moon (so we can have some space flight), where all systems gets to be experienced by the players locally, without the issues of servers. ArmA3 done it back in the day. Is not impossible.

Anyway, we'll see what will be. I really hope they don't mess this up. It was a slam dunk.

That's where the rumours started. Mostly due to how hard they are making the tools rather than content of the game. Tools that a third party will use to make other star systems and content!

Time it takes to learn the tools, get up to speed with the vision, lore, etc., just time wasted.

Good tools should allow them a faster execution of future systems. The real question is what is/are the actual blockers?

Elliott the mission designer took 2h to make a simple Misson live on stream.

But it looked quite complex and would take a while to learn the tool he demoed.

Listen, I am by no means happy if that rumour comes to light as me personally I'd rather they ditch sq42 and work soloely on the mmo pu.

I'm not following the rumours so i can't make a useful comment other than to say [a] ditching the PU sounds like it would take it back to more like what was offered in the initial kickstarter, which is fine by me as that's exactly what i paid for, and giving it up after all this effort seems a waste of a big percentage of, what - £500m or something now?

They can't bin the PU completely, there really would be a uprising if they did that.

If they can get the backend server code working then things should start to fly through. Problem is that's still a big task that they've not managed yet.

Kicking Chris Roberts out of his own project would be a step in the right direction at this point......

They did the mo cap for SQ42 what like 5 years ago now ? The actors will all be dead at this rate before it gets released.

No doubt Roberts will be angling to play Director again and do it all over with a new set of Hollywood actors.

The big mo-cap shoot was 2015, 8 years ago :O

I was there :)

Crazy. It will be lols if SQ42 os not as good as Starfield after all that time and money.
It would also be lol if Starfield is riddled with bugs from day one lmao.

Equally sf has been in development for nearly the same time as sq42 btw.

I don't care about sq42 and wished they just binned it

Meh, i expect bugs. Won't stop me from enjoying the game. I enjoyed Fallout 4 on release and Cyberpunk 2077.

Bin SQ42?? Greta wants a word with you sir!

I probably would if I could dedicate enough time to it. But as that is not the case I want a single player experience I can save the game and continue at my own pace.
You can do that in the pu already. Everything is persisted.

Loads of missions to do solo. Half time I play solo. As I said you will love the pu

There's nothing there that doesn't already exist in every other engine on the market (and not on the market). It's cool people see a bit more in depth what goes on behind the scenes in gamedev, but it's a massive  seeing everything CiG does held up as some kind of cutting edge future wonder-tech when it's just the same as goes in any other big studio.
