******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Oh I freely admit my experiences are limited. I also admit that I have little to no interest in the PU, so have not allocated much time to it. However, based on my experiences, I am disappointed, which I think is a reasonable reaction.

All of the things you list sound lovely, I hope someday I get to experience them. In the meantime, I will install it yet again, and see where I get to. If it is not very far, then that's my experience.

Next Xeno Threat we have to get this guy on our crew, give him some experience.

How is this project coming along? It's been 5 years since I left working on it, any SQ42 release due soon?
Persistent Entity Streaming is in, the cargo refactor is in the 3.20 Evocati patch along with the Hull C.

Still working on Server Meshing, no word recently on SQ42 but there is something on that expected for Citizencon, perhaps even a firm release date.

The Star Citizen Persistent Universe is a buggy mess, tbh.
  • NPCs standing on chairs, or staring at walls. It reminds me of the film "Dead Poets Society" where they all stand on their chairs.
  • The physics engine is completely broken. You can blow up your ship just by loading cargo crates.
  • Opening my inventory has taken upwards of 5 minutes. Or has never loaded at all.
  • I get no more than 20 or 30fps despite having a decent rig. Sometimes the framerate drops through the floor to 5-10 fps.
There are moments when it's not so bad. But they are very far and few between. I can't be arsed, this is clearly going to get shelved in the next 2-3 years once people stop throwing money at it.

Uninstalled this a little bit back, bugs were driving me insain, performance isnt good, couldnt call ships at terminal sometimes, do a mission only for it to be bugged at the end so wouldnt complete and give you the reward and one of the most annoying bugs
was things and people being invisible lol

The game ( if you can call it that) absolutely drove me insane! honestly, i dont think it will ever get to a finished state, glad i only bought the one ship and didnt pile cash into this, i feel sorry for the people who have.

Some of that is due to server issues, but sadly they don't bother to ship an offline version too...

cheers for the info, chaps :)

I always thought the best thing that could come from this project would be a behind the scenes film. It'd be like Spinal Tap! Hilarious going on!

It got a lot of problems, a lot of it to do with PES still not being quite right, tho very much better than it was when it first came in, the engine is also still undergoing its conversion from DX11 to Vulkan, that's causing problems, the physics engine is in the middle of being rebuilt, again that's causing problems.

Its in a huge transitional stage, it needs more time.

Right now i'm ###### off with quite a lot of it, but there is still no other game like it, even Starfield isn't it.

Jumped back in for a few hours of 1v1's with mates and I was so awful :D I've not played it since BG3 released and there's ArmouredCore and Cyberpunk to go so will be a while still.

For me, I really wanted it to be successful. I still do. I just don't think, after this long and with this much of the community money invested, that it is or will be.

So I am not sure about the binary fanboy or critic thing.

For me, it's not that I am angry, I am just disappointed...
I was more looking forwards to Squadron 42, a chance to play a new game with in he style of the old FMV games from back in the 90's. Looking at who they managed to rope in to play the characters is mind blowing as well but given this in now in Beta there's half a chance this might still see the light of day. If it does come out and given how long it's been in development it should be the most bug free game since Pong.

I'd place money (not $600,000,000 though :D) that at some stage they decide to change engines to UE5.

You're right, it's not like Starfield; that game is actually being released in less than 2 weeks.

I don't mean to get at you, it's just that more and more people every day are losing hope with with Squadron 42 ever seeing the light of space. It'll soon become indefensible.

I understand that, i don't feel much different myself, if they don't come up with a convincing release date at Citizencon then yes all hope is gone...

That's one of the problems. They're focusing a lot on SQ42 and then passing tech down into the PU. Yet they've built a community around the PU as that's what you can play, that's what's ongoing. I don't own SQ42 as I stupidly didn't think they'd raise the price (which was already acceptable) and with it being years away I didn't see a need. I'm still happy enough with that decision as all the fun I've had (which is a good amount) is been with people in the PU. If I hadn't found a group to play with I would not have stuck with the game. It's a sandbox, you get out of it what people are able to put in.

AMD just announced FSR 3 Frame Gen

If you have a Radeon 6000 or 7000 GPU you will get Frame Gen whether the game has it or not, the AMD software will do it.

So you can double your 25 FPS to 50.

TEST server with loads of new stuff including Master Modes and the Vanduul Swarm, and they do mean swarm :D

Also seen this bouncing around:

The problem with multiplayer games now-a-days is that they are full of hackers, especially PC games. Id rather they concentrate on the single player but I hear what you are saying; to them its all about making more money so they can keep their expensive operation going.

I feel the PU was the main draw for everyone who backed it though.
