Fair enough. Got a couple of years to wait for the game, so I guess a couple of weeks for support isn't the end of the world lol.

YAY! they got back to me. Now the wait for my next ticket for my next AMD mustang lol.

If anyone is planning on backing the game or increase their pledge it'll be cheaper to do it before 1st Feb 2015 as VAT is coming to Star Citizen...

VAT-Change-Announcement

Also, there will be a selection of limited edition and wave two ships available again during the week of January 26.

Im not impressed at the fact that they've made this announcement, and it appears the actual reasons for it, they've completely ignored entirely.

It appears to be due to changes in the EU law, which took place on Jan 1st, where all companies are expected to pay/charge VAT for EU customers. So if EU citizens have pledged $1m in 2015, then about $200k of that is going to the taxman.

This sale is no different, YOU wont be paying tax, but the project will pay it instead... they're basically selling a $120 ship at $100 adding 20% VAT and you pay $120. So the VAT is being paid, its just that you're not contributing $120, because a chunk of that is going to mr taxman.

So "We're opening an EU publishing arm in the UK blablabla the good news is we'll be closer to you blablabla and the downside is we're required to charge VAT starting Feb 1st"

is actually

"EU law says we have to include VAT, nowt we can do about it. What we're going to do is pay the VAT ourselves this month, meaning less of your pledge is coming to us, but you wont be paying extra, and we'll sell some of the limited ships to give you one last opportunity at an extortionate but not extortionate+20% price, until then. oh and in other news, we've opened a EU publishing arm to do something we already do, it just wasnt called an EU publishing arm before."

F-knows what their post is all about, cos their post tells you nothing of the reality, nothing about what they're doing, and basically makes it sound like THEY are responsible for this VAT being added due to the EU distro nonsense they're saying nothing about, it also doesnt explain why its Jan 20th and for 20 days VAT has been racked up, without being billed, who's responsible for missing this, and whether can they flip burgers??

Was wondering about the VAT stuff!

Yeah I don't think it's explained very well and I don't know how any existing sales tax for some of the US states is already done when it comes to backers.

Anyway, I expect the funding to slow down quite a bit.

credit etc is fine, you've bought it legit. if its worth $400 then that doesnt change anything, you're not paying for something else, you're exchanging items for credit, credit for items... nothing more.

if you want one of the concepts, buying a fair chunk of RSI credits or ships of a similar value to melt, would get you around the VAT, or at least a significant chunk (if you buy $200, and its $300, you're only paying VAT on the difference).

Technically this law was in place since 2003 but all non-EU tax resident companies (for example CIG in US) had the option for a simple registration through one jurisdiction which allowed many (like Amazon) to go through low rated Luxembourg. As of 1st Jan 2015 this loophole was closed and as such now they need to individually register for Vat in the countries they make sales within the EU.

The issue is that it is pretty hard for EU tax authorities to police companies outside the EU who tend to make a smaller number of transactions (such as CIG), they also aren't likely to chase CIG over one month of VAT sales if they are planning on registering from 1st Feb, so yes in essence the move to an EU headquarters has accelerated the process as there are cross-border treaties between EU member states which means any non-compliant company would be caught out pretty quickly (they do make brief mention in about press coverage of the new law).

Public TEST universe released

Greetings Citizens,

Get ready to join the Public Test Universe (PTU.) During the lead up to Arena Commander 1.0, we gave a limited number of backers access to what we call the PTU, a version of the game that offers experimental versions of upcoming patches. Starting today, all Star Citizen backers have access to the PTU and with it access to test a build of Arena Commander 1.0.1.

Please note that the PTU is not for the faint of heart: unlike standard Arena Commander, you’re one of the first people testing a new build which can often be unstable or otherwise non-functional. If you’re serious about helping us test Star Citizen, accessing the PTU and reporting bugs on the forums is one of the biggest services you can provide… but if you’re looking for a clean dogfight, you may want to stick to the standard build. You can report bugs discovered in the PTU here, or provide feedback on the PTU itself here.

Arena Commander 1.0.1 is now available on the Public Test Universe. 1.0.1 is a bug fix-oriented patch, designed to fix a number of issue we saw with 1.0. The next major content patch will be 1.1, which will introduce several long-awaited features to the game. Official patch notes will be available once the release is tested on the PTU and pushed to the main release channel, although in-progress notes will be posted to the PTU forum.

How do I access the PTU?

Step One: Copy your RSI account to the PTU. Go to your My RSI area, select settings and then access Public Test Universe to begin this process. This will copy all of your account settings, pledges and configuration data to the PTU version of the RSI environment. You will then receive an email with a new password and additional instructions.

Step Two: Open the Star Citizen launcher, log in with your existing RSI account.

Step Three: Access the Settings area of the Star Citizen launcher (the cog at the top) and locate the Game Channel list.

Step Four: Select ‘Public Test Universe’ in the Game Channel list and then close the settings page.

Step Five: Log out of the Launcher, then log back in using the new password in the email generated by Step One. Reverse this process to switch back to the standard release channel.

We hope you enjoy access to even earlier builds of Star Citizen! We’re committed to including our backers as early in the development process as possible, so getting the Public Test Universe accessible to everyone as quickly as we could was a priority. Now man your planes and help us test this thing!

PLEASE NOTE: The PTU will not be permanently accessible; it will be available on occasions that the community is needed for testing a patch, and will usually be deactivated after a patch goes live on the main channel. We will update you in this space when PTU content is available for testing.

Heard there will be a sale before the VAT implements. So I'm going to jump in before the VAT hits.

Looking at getting the AMD omega code and then trading the mustang for a hornet via the upgrade route. If possible.

Then getting a freelancer and a on sale ship along with the relevant codes to get playing right away.

Would like to get a joystick for around £60 any suggestions?

T16000M is arguably one of the most accurate sticks around and extremely nice to use (ambidextrous too), downside is it has no separate throttle unit. Hotas X has both but stick isn't quite as good but it's right handed.

Not usually an issue but you can in theory grab two T16000Ms and dual stick later, I tried it and didn't like it so went for a T16000M + CH pro throttle (added pedals later too.. cos christmas :) )
