******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

So it's basically been my birthday bash for last 3/4 days so have not touched sc. Think I just about watched isc.

What have I missed?

4.0 evo started yet?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... no chance.

You'd have more chance of Chris Roberts turning up at your place to give you a birthday lap dance with LED nipple tassels on singing "my milkshake brings all the boys to the yard".

Anyone else having issues with the hauling missions, I take it in the mobi glass but there is nothing at the freight elevator console. Am I missing a trick here?

I was having a similar issue and discovered a work around for now.
Take any mission that starts collecting cargo from anywhere except a space station that is above a main planet, but you can take a mission that does deliver there.
For example:
Non Main Space Station to Anywhere = Working
Port Tressler/Bajini/Serepin/Etc. to Anywhere = Doesn't work

This has been working all day for me so far, hope this helps.

What is with the skybox change? - Space was too black and dark; now it's green and hazy. :/

One day we'll be able to change the hud colours and brightness...

It looks like a giant fart cloud in space. In some areas it's dark green and in other it's bright green.

I wonder if its just the new servers but the game loads from the menus into the PU a lot faster in this patch for me.

Apparently this.....

Hi everyone o7

I'm sharing some words from our Environment team:

We have changed the skybox to give a better read to ships in space. Because we had so much blackness in the skybox, in many lighting conditions, ships would become almost invisible, which made making out structures and other ships very difficult. With a skybox containing more ambient color, ships will have much stronger silhouettes against the backdrop of space. It was also to lend Stanton as a system a more unique identity, especially as we head towards 1.0 and more systems come online.

As a reminder, this is all still a work in progress, and this pass was also about bringing all our methods of creating the system skyboxes in line with the latest workflows we've developed. It still remains to be tweaked further so feedback is valuable.

Like yeah duh, welcome to space where it be dark and you see **** unless lit. So frustrating. It now looks like NMS or something.

this is a real challenge that the devs face in space games which are trying to be somewhat plausible.

99% of space is baren, dull and dark. Also it is silent. Obviously there is a balance to be found and i dont want it to go full NMS cartoon, but equally i love a bit of eye candy as well.

maybe lore wise the colour effects are projected onto our cockpit via our HUD, just like sound needs to be simulated as well.

the only wrinkle then would be do you have 2 totally separate visual styles when looking from in the ship and from using outside vanity shots.

Soundwise Elite dangerous nails it imo, you get a nod to realism when your canopy blows, sound becomes muffled and all projected HUD elements are lost at the points where there are no glass but continue to project where there is glass.. i have not played enough SC recently to remember how it is handled there, and even if i could it may have changed since.

There was plenty of eye candy in space in SC though tbh before all this.

In terms of sound, yeah CIG have already shown "realistic" sound scape and explained the ships produce the sound based on feedback be it impacts or thrusters, weapons etc.

The whole fake nebula style effects that we've used and SC had before this change I think is fine, when tailored right. ID'ing ships in space, that's what the sensors and computer is for. Give me wee dynamic marker on things. Give me a straight up list of ships, distance, type etc. And let me change colour and brightness of ship hud displays. etc. All things we've mentioned before in this thread. The green just seems like an Art fix for a problem their UI team can't/won't fix.
