******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Is the multiplayer aspect PvE or PvP or will it depend on the server?

or is none of that known yet?

To expand on "Its both" it will.. Already has MMO like mission loops / dungeons with its own SC flavour.

For PVP you would be fighting eachother from the smallest scale pirating to the grandest scale of control of a whole area trying to take over another Orgs ground or space station, there are lawful and lawless systems, for example Stanton is protected by law enforcement, that doesn't mean you can't be an outlaw in Stanton but that does mean there are consequences if you are caught, currently that is in the form of a crime stat which puts a player and NPC target on you, eventually actual in game prison, which yes has an escape game loop.

The Pyro System is controlled by factions, its lawless, no one is going to come to your aid if pirated in Pyro, unless you're a higher ranking member of one of the factions that control it, if you're attacked then it might be an act of war between factions.

A lot of post-CitCon questions coming in, devs are running round answering them.

So there's no way to avoid the possibility of being attacked by other players? e.g. on a server where it's not possible to or where it's only possible in certain areas, like these lawless zones you mentioned?

Cuz from my experience in other games there will be people that want to play it but don't want the threat of being attacked by other players.

That's how i understand it, its a free for all sandbox, there are armistice zones in lawful systems around and in cities and space stations, where your weaponry is not active, however there is no armistice out in the blackness of space, out there there is no way to stop a player from shooting at you, however there are consequences for doing that.

Not absolutely everything in a lawful system is protected by armistice, i was player attacked at an orbital marker once... space is vast, the game is vast, the chances of anyone finding you in the deep blackness while your mining for resources or whatever.... are very slim, i can count on one hand the amount of times its happened to me in many many many thousands of hours.

I forgot to talk about the armistice system, sorry... its a lot to remember.

I could expand on it more, if you really want to avoid any PVP its actually real easy to do in a lawful system.

To use my example of Orbital Markers, they are around planets, fixed points that you use to lock on to and quantum jump to traverse planets, sometimes PVP'ers like to camp around them, if the OM is on a regular used trade rout for example, right... you don't actually have to use them in the way they are intended, you can drop out of Quantum early if you chose to and jump to your next destination 5,000 or whatever KM short of the OM, or you can use Quantum boosting to get around the planet, this is a manual flight controlled percentage of light speed, you use that to hop around your own way, no one will ever find you.

In any area where you have to do stuff among others its an armistice zone.

Quantum Boosting example here....

I dunno, I think just the thought that I could be minding my own business and some guy and 99 of his friends could find me in their $42,000 Javelin and decide to destroy me for the lols, would annoy me too much.

This might seem like a silly question, but remember that I know little about the game. How much piloting (or travel by way of) space ship is there in the game? It seems like there's a bunch of the game where you're on foot, but I'm not sure how much of the game that makes up?
Is that like asking if there's much car driving in Forza? (another game I've not played but I believe there's a lot of car driving)

Its all subjective...

I don't think i have ever watched a prologue to a video game and thought "that was epic" Can you point to anything that's in your subjective opinion better? Genuine question.

It is going to be rough, its not a finished product.

I kinda love Alan Wake 2, a lot of stuff was almost perfect.

In Star Citizen, your primary way of getting about is with your ship, its like you fly to a bunker, kill a bunch of NPC's on foot, fly to the next mission, or if you're mining for resources you have a mining ship, or a ground vehicle if you're mining on planet surface, which you can also to with a spaceship, or on foot.

I don't really know how to answer that concisely, you use your ship like how you use your car IRL.

It isn't that different to any other MP game where people with more time invested in the game will have a leg up on you. I kinda hate it, but it is what it is.

They'd have to come at you with something bigger than a bunch of Gladius's or Hornet's, the weapons on small/medium and likely even heavy fighters would just bounce off. You'd need to bring actual ship busters to the party to even put a dent in a Capital Ship.

In the mean time you'll have the pleasure of aiming over a dozen size 7/9 gatling guns or cannons at those pesky fighter ships along with multiple missile batteries and a some hefty torpedo's :)

What ship do you think I'd have?

Yeah, there is that, but it's probably a bigger gap earlier in the game lifecycle.

Not a chance. The vastness of the the system itself, and the fact a capital ship will appear on your radar long before they can see you means they won't ever "sneak" up on you.
I got confused when you said:

They could just destroy you for the lols but don't forget doing that from a javelin probably wouldn't be worth it as will cost to much to restock.
Yeah exactly, time, resources, better targets and such. The only reason they would be involved is if you was say mining in what they consider their territory and would ask you to leave before they engage etc or certainly something similar to that affect. They very much for heavy targets and raids etc.
