so after three years of being a central part of the team (and winnign three titles, a CL + whatever else) , you would sell one of your british players playing at the top of their game!!! Dont be ridiculous

carrick was never at the top of his game. he has looked slow, laboured and unable to come to terms with life at man utd.. like i say we are forced to play 3 centre midfielders when he plays to make up for his lack of pace, or tackling ability. and his passing isn as great as he would have you believe either!

Fergie is wrong when he buys proven talent or big names that doesn't work out. Wrong when he buys good young players who in the long run will add quality to the squad. He was also just lucky and in the right place at the right time to get Ronaldo for £12m. Wrong to buy Hargreaves who was instrumental in Bayern winning 3 domestic titles and also England's best player at the last world cup in a campaign nearly as bad as this World Cup.

he WAS lucky to sign ronaldo. its only because we happened to play them in a pre season friendly and then Giggs and other senior players badgered fergie into signing him because he completely outskilled all of our players...infact aresenal were wanting him but because we had a mutual agreement with sporting at the time we were able to leverage this and buy him first.

now is that luck or a fantastically scouted signing by fergie?

wrong to buy an injury prone player who just got majorly injured? probably yes, his future returns in terms of appearances for UTD back this up entirely.

hargreaves has a total of 26 appearances plus a sub in 3 years....

Pretty much agreed that Sneijder was gash at Madrid. Why didn't he buy him last year knowing full well if he went to Milan he would win the treble and be playing in the W/C final this Sunday. Senile old fool.

yea but somehow Inter didnt think he was so terrible and were willing to spend 12mill for him...

You know of course that Inter have confirmed Utd put an offer in (that was ignored basically)

No where did Moratti (sp) say we'd made an offer, all he said is he believes that we're interested, that interest which is only being reported by the media and all Moratti said was that if an offer came in they'd reject it

Until they confirm we've made a bid or even better Fergie has confirmed our interest in the player like he did with Villa I say is balls that we're in for Sneijder

Imagine how much Ferguson could do and would have won if he was as preternaturally gifted as you seem to think managers should be. For a manager who just gets lucky and makes so many wrong decisions he hasn't half done well to have won so much at both Aberdeen and Manchester United.

Of course he gets things wrong, maybe he even gets more wrong than right (although I'd doubt it) but then if you look at other managers he's got a pretty damn good record so if he's poor then what does that make the rest?

Ferguson is terrible, he signs underperforming players, players thats aren't good enough and then signs players that we were lucky to get because of link ups with clubs that he put in place.

It's lucky that we had that golden generation that he didn't nurture through the ranks and bring into the first team.

It's no wonder he's never won anything.

I love the way Arsenal sign players these days. Take months sorting everything out so that by the time you actually announce it, it's the world's worst kept secret.

PS. Can we have a new keeper Arsene? Please? xx

I still think he has something up his sleeve, I don't think Wenger is short sighted enough to expect us to play the start of next season with only 3 CB's.

The deal is worth ~£10m which is similar to what we paid for Vermallen. Can he have the same kind of impact that Vermallen had last season? If so, awesome pair of centre backs we have. Only need Hangeland or Mertesacker and we should be rock solid.

EDIT: Also he is only reported to be on £25k/week. Our wage bill should drop massively this season if Gallas, Silvestre leave.

Wage bill should be cut quite a bit. I don't know what Sol and Silvestre were on but I think Gallas was on about 60k a week and all three of those are now free agents. Not really sad that any of them are going, it was nice for Campbell to have another season with us and he did quite well for a pensioner. It's a shame Wenger isn't as ruthless with some of the youngsters as he is with his AXA Over 30's plan. No idea what's going to happen now though in terms of transfers. We need a goalkeeper but we need another CB more. Looks like we'll be going through another season with Almunia, that's okay as long as Flappyhandski isn't backing him up, I'd rather have Mannone before him and believe it or not when Mannone had his 8 game run in the first team last season Arsenal were unbeaten for the duration. :p :D

Sack Fergie, Sell Giggs, Sign Heskey

It's the ONLY way forward

Yep you're desperately short in numbers in defence

Not saying the likes of Silvestre or Senderos were good players but at least they were bodies

No chance Wenger will go into next season with Vermaelen, Djourou and this new lad as the only recognised centre backs... well I dont think there is :p

We have Tom Cruise! Okay, he's not a CB but I'm sure he has a few stunt doubles to make up the numbers. :D

I've had too many seasons of Arsene Wenger to ever count my chickens before they've hatched. Plenty of times people have said "Oh no, I have a sneaky feeling he'll get someone else in before the season starts", only for nothing to happen. So far I'm only going to assume we've signed two players, because we have.

I've heard he likes to fly into challenges though.

sorry

Wenger will go into the season with 3 CB's with Song as cover and buy more attackers, that's how he rolls, who cares about defenders when you can buy attackers??

Cringe worthy.

Well, I dont know...certainly its a Risky Business but he is showing All The Right Moves. In time he could develop into a Legend, its a possibility thats not all that Far And Away. As long as he keeps his feet on the ground and doesnt play with his Eyes Wide Shut or get lured by The Colour of Money then I think he could certainly turn out to be one of A Few Good Men.
