Personally quite upset that we've seen the last of the Black4 - goodbye Silvestre, Campbell and Gallas, sweet princes.

Dan Gosling leaving Everton on a free

What a mess from Start to Finish, the club fail to do the proper admin of submitting a contract offer to him. The player who is still injured for upto 4 months is just walking away with no loyalty to Everton. Really makes you think for the future of football if incompetence exists at club level and like wise the players being so mercenary

He wanted a guarenteed starting place which is a bit rich for a player out injured for months. He now has to find a club that will train him, look after his rehab and then decide to play him.

The 2 year deal offered would have given him the chance to get fit and then find another club in 12 months if by magic he becomes a superstar.

Another ungratefull jumped up ****. Would I play him over Arteta who claims he owes the club for looking after him?

Ferguson is terrible, he signs underperforming players, players thats aren't good enough and then signs players that we were lucky to get because of link ups with clubs that he put in place.

be under no illusion tht UTD even in their heyday were the biggest spenders in the league. the opposition was not as good, or as well funded as it is now. look at Blackburn, Leeds or Newcastle neither spent as much as we did yet all tumbled.

while we did have a great youth team (which i am not sure you can credit fergie for - this was luck, not skill, else why would no more decent youth have come through in such a quantity if it was skill as opposed to luck), it was supplemented with some big name signings... Cole, Yorke Stam, 3 hugely expensive players in their day that virtually no other UK club could have afforded.

Of course he gets things wrong, maybe he even gets more wrong than right (although I'd doubt it) but then if you look at other managers he's got a pretty damn good record so if he's poor then what does that make the rest?

ultimately if you were to remove the ronaldo transfer and look at the net transfer defecit of fergie in say the last 10 years - how do you think it would stack up? with only the sale of people like Stam and Beckham earning good money, the loss on people like Kleberson, Veron, forlan etc will add add up...and then you have current market valuations for people we overpaid for such as Carrick and Hargreaves and berbatov...

No where did Moratti (sp) say we'd made an offer, all he said is he believes that we're interested, that interest which is only being reported by the media and all Moratti said was that if an offer came in they'd reject it

Until they confirm we've made a bid or even better Fergie has confirmed our interest in the player like he did with Villa I say is balls that we're in for Sneijder

Actually its been widely reported (numerous websites through Newsnow) that what he actually said is "We have recieved an offer, but I havent looked at it as I dont want to be tempted. I have been watching him play at the WC and will continue to watch him in the seasons to come at Inter"

slightly different quote but practically the same

The interest from Manchester United in Sneijder is real, but I haven't found it tempting," said Inter owner Massimo Moratti."I’m following him at the World Cup and I think I’ll do the same also at Inter for the next few years.”

well how much would you value a EPL win, or a CL......, no point just looking at the "debits" without looking at the "credits"

Even some players that didnt last long or didnt gain too much revenue after being sold on assisted with titles and cups!!!

given that we only won 1 cl in the last 10 years despite facing some very poor opposition, such as porto, going out to bayern, leverkusen etc it makes me think that despite our spoil of riches we have actually underachieved.

infact id go as far to say that we didnt look good value for winning either of our european cups 1999 or 2008, and looked horrendous - almost like we did not deserve to be there in 2009. that tells me that something is very wrong somewhere...?

The bottom quote is the one that most reliable sources are publishing, I've not seen the top one anywhere

How many teams have won it more than once in the last ten year then Nick? Two? And they've both only won it twice? So that's eight different winners in the last ten years? Wow yeah, sucks that you couldn't dominate the CL like everybody else has been doing recently, huh?

Go support Chelsea then... oh wait they haven't won it either. Nor have Arsenal

No team has a divine right to win anything every year, that's the problem people like you cant grasp

no, think again - do you reckon that we played well, or looked at any instance apart from the first 9 minutes, as being a match for barcelona? did we look like we deserved to be in a champs league final?

despite winning the season prior it looked like we had gone backward 5 steps. you tell me if you think we looked good, like the champions?

in 1999 did we win it on anything other than the last 2 kicks of the game? before that i can only remember a jesper Blomqvist half chance from oursleves.

I'm beginning to wonder exactly what Ferguson would have to do to be a good manager in your eyes. He's presided over the most successful period in your clubs history and has been there second longest of any manager that Manchester United have had. Are there any football managers you rate at all?

As FrankJH says it's not necessarily a simple case of weighing profit vs loss on transfers, if the players he has signed played a part in winning the trophies that the team has won then they should not be written off as a complete loss. I'm sure there are some things that Sir Alex would do differently if he had the chance again but he took the chances and has a record that compares favourably with almost any other manager - in fact if you can name five current managers who've won their domestic league(s) with their team(s) 10+ times and/or more than 10 cups in their domestic cup competitions plus at least one European cup I'd be somewhat surprised.

How well did chelsea do against them on their own ground? I seem to remember Barcelona passed them to death in that game on chelsea's own turf! How well did Arsenal do against them last season?

At this moment in time there's not a team in the world that can live with Barcelona, Inter fair enough got their tactics spot on against them but in truth the better team didn't go through in that tie, you just need to deal with that and appreciate the good things that Man Utd have got going for them

Problem is Man Utd could win the lot this season and you'll still want the manager sacked

not sell beckham for less than his marketing value. not fall out with players for personal matters, not sign players who are hugely overrated and overpriced?

yes he did but you are ignoring the factors that i stated, such as the LUCK we had with a crop of players and the luck he had that we had the riches to spend the way to sucess when other clubs did not have the same opportunity...

Nickg I thought you were a Man Utd fan?!

yes i am a huge fan. it is because i care so much for the club that i take every loss and mistake almost personally. being a fan doesnt mean simply basking in glory when you win and hiding in the shadows when you lose. its about wanting whats best for the club WIN or LOSE. examining why we won, why we lost etc.?

Nick do you actually remember when we went out to Porto?

Was it that they were a poor team or was it a shocking refereeing decison?

Another question, do you think the teams of the early 90's would have won the EC/CL if there wasn't the foreigner rule in place?

Would it have been better if Beckham had stayed with United when it was obvious to everyone that he was getting too big for his boots and being an utter ****?

If I could have the "luck" that Ferguson seems to continue to enjoy throughout my career then I'd be more than happy with that. Surely after the 10th League Title you thought - maybe there's more to this bloke than just fluking it all the time?

It's also worth remembering that when Sir Alex took over Manchester United were a team with a glorious history but a poor recent past and he's helped mould them into one of the largest and most successful clubs in the World.

//edit however this is going nowhere really, I think he's done a remarkable job even if he has made mistakes inevitably. It appears that you think very differently and nothing I can say is likely to alter that.

I understand, but you have to realise you're incredibly lucky to be a Man Utd fan, especially recently, they've had more success in the last 5 years than nearly every English side will ever achieve in their history. Don't act so spoilt!
