thought id put my thoughts about man utd in here.

Keepers
VDS, Kusacak - one more season in VDS but we need to be looking at bringing in a world class replacement at he latest next summer. Neur / Akinfeev

Full Back - Evra, Neville, Fabio, Rafael, Brown, Oshea - Brown is better at Cb for a start and oshea well he is decent cover thats about it, Fabio and Rafael have the potential but we imho desperately need a quality attacking right back someone like lahm but obviously that would be far too expensive so im in a quandry here as i dont know who we could reasonably sign.

CB - Rio, Vidic, Smalling, Evans - well hmm, given both oshea and brown and even neville can fill in here its not an immediate worry but we do need cover here asap.

DM - Hargreaves - Injured all the time, we need a DMC not a MC converted to a DMC. (I'd even take Gilberto Silva here as hes on a free for the short term)

MC- Scholes, Giggs, Carrick, Anderson, Gibson - Again underperformers abound man utd should not be relying week in week out on 36 year old players. again though who could we sign reasonably and with the cash available ? I would love to see Ozil or Sneider or Schweinsteiger but I just cant see it happening.

Wing - Nani, Valencia, Park - no too bad but we could do with another winger or player who could play on the wing. Joe Cole on a free for me is a must here as not only can he play on the wing he can play behind the striker and would give us a quality option. On a free its a no brainer which is why we probably wont sign him.

Forward - Berba, Rooney, Owen, Macheda, hernandez, Wellbeck. Theres enough pace and creativity there as well as finishing talent for any team imho its just getting the combination of them working together that is the problem Berba and rooney just dont seem to click.

so from that lot we need to sign a few players over the next year or two, however for this season its definetly a MC and a RB for me. joe cole would be a definite as well with him a free transfer.

If Rafael isn't ready to start now then he never will be. He needs games to get the experience. I think he should be our first choice right back with O'Shea as backup.

i disagree he is still too impetuous and lacking in certain areas, although undoubted quality. An experienced Right back playing in front of him much like evra and fabio would do the world of good and dont forget the benefit of learning from said rb. it would also bring experience and balance to the back four which we need at present.

and the only way to do his is to sign someone better than him, O'shea / Brown arguably are no better than him.

Well Rooney used to be liked that as well, I just think he needs regular football. If we sign another right back now then he will never get a game, Fergie would play the new right back with O'Shea/Neville behind him. He will not sell those two so we cannot buy a right back.

i cant see oshea or neville being played ahead of him, fergie rates rafael highly otherwise he would not have played him against ribery in the champs league last year.

if we signed a right back, rafael would be backing him up.

OShea still had the blood clot then - so thats where your theory breaks down imo

I agree with Sham , we need to start playing Rafael week in week out

That is one of the only times Rafael has been picked ahead of them recently, O'Shea was first choice for an entire season and Neville was first choice for a lot of the latter half of last season.

Will Amos get a good chance next season in goal - never seen any reports either way as to whether he is good enough

Will Cleverly get a squad number for midfield - is he good enough (even just for a few sub appearances at the beginning of the year?) - or will he be farmed out on loan?

Smalling isnt ready for starting in the EPL / CL imo, which leaves Vidic and Evans as regular starters (I would love to say Rio I just dont believe his back will last anything like a full season's worth of games), and Vidic only has one more season on his contract , and I cant see Man Utd allowing such a big asset to leave on a free

Market will go crazy as of Monday but I cant see Man Utd buying more than 1 or 2 players at the very most, and like Sham said it will probably be 0

Nahh im not so sure tbh on some of that. I think Amos is a good 12-18 months away from being near first team contention on a regular basis.

Although we definitely need to strengthen the midfield area, what has gone unnoticed is that we have already spent a good £20m on Hernandez and Smalling if some of the figures mooted are to be believed.

Imho Fergie's plan is to add some depth to the squad in Smalling, Hernandez and AN Other for Midfield. If that AN other is a marquee signing or some relative unknown then who knows. Next summer will see one or two marquee signings.

Whilst he is supposed to have he 'Ronaldo' Money and what ever is left from the new shirt sponsors, you have to agree that World Cup and European Championship years really do see Johnny Average having a good tournament and commanding a £4m, £5m, £6m above their actual value. Jordi Cruyff, Karel Poborsky anyone ??

Are you not missing Fletcher from your assessment here? While not a World beater perhaps he's certainly a decent player who'll play solidly and cover very effectively.

I thought it was about -6 Million for Hernandez and about 7/8 Million for Smalling.

Hernandez is apparently £7m, and Smalling is rumoured £8-11m upfront, up to £15m on appearances/international I'm assuming. Seems to be talked about £10m+future, though.

Ah fair enough.

Jeez, best part of £20m gone.

Didn't think it was that much, would like to see United bring in a few more players to help with positions and a good clear out of all the dead wood.

Haha as I said ALL along fergie has confirmed we have made no bid for sneijder nor will we, just media/moratti bs

Only disappointing thing about being spot on is that at the same time fergie has pretty much confirmed no more spending :(

the club is in debt, i very much doubt that the glaziers are actually doing what they keep saying in the press, its just to keep the fans off their back.

i bet you they told fergie, you have £25m to spend and thats it. i very much doubt they will sign anyone who is a proven decent player this summer or in january.
