Nope, Wenger has said that he's not finished adding to the defence so expect at least 1 more signing. Hopefully, it's a unknown star in the making or a recognised international.

Haha as I said ALL along fergie has confirmed we have made no bid for sneijder nor will we, just media/moratti bs

Only disappointing thing about being spot on is that at the same time fergie has pretty much confirmed no more spending :(

Of course Fergie is going to tell the press openly what he plans , yeah?

If anything Moratti is more believable (not that I blame SAF in the slightest)

either way no need to be arrogant about it

the club is in debt, i very much doubt that the glaziers are actually doing what they keep saying in the press, its just to keep the fans off their back.
.

FYI there was cash available for transfers as published in the accounts which were released a month or so ago (even before the new shirt sponsor would have paid the larger initial payment), and after Smalling would have been paid for (in Jan I would have thought, as he was actually bought then and loaned back to Fulham)

Im not suggesting any of it will definitely be spent but there was plenty available for at least one marquee signing if required (from SAF's pov)

Wasn't it that French guy that no-one had heard of?

Laurent Koscielny is probably the one your thinking of...so far thats the only signing Wenger has made but then with the WC ongoing i suppose there isnt going to be much transfer activity going on.

Wenger's previously said, on many occasions that its time to spend on a couple good players and not done so, I basically won't ever believe a word he says. I'm not too fussed about that, a manager shouldn't be showing all his cards on a daily basis. If you're negotiating for a £20mil player, and they want £25mil, saying every day he's your only target is the single worst thing you can do, saying you've got a few targets with on going negotiations makes the other guys think there are alternatives.

Wengers too worried about a failing player, he already sticks with failed transfer for far too long, I'm sure its been confirmed now we had an offer accepted and agreed terms with that Ruski keeper, then pulled out last minute for whatever reason, considered they agreed a fee means our board agreed to spend it, Wenger chickend out. The French guy, if he was telling the truth ISN'T the secret deal because he said he had a surprise lined up when that deal was 98% done and public knowledge.

Benayoun saying in the press today he decided to leave ages ago because Benitez is a real a-hole. The general trend from lots of promising players(and not so promising ones) who have left due to Benitez is he's a complete ****, tells them they suck, and the theme seems to be unless you play to Benitez's exact instructions all game every game, he'll try and break you till you do only as he says. Considering its often the players doing what they want and showing a little creativity like Benny, who get screwed, well, everyone seems unhappy at Benitez.

Torres after he was gone almost straight away said it was whats best for the club, while Benitez was there it was "if he goes I go" basically. What people say about managers, while they play under a manager means nothing, what people say about a manager after they've left, is pretty much the only things you can believe. Some managers, Wenger, players still say he's great, some like Benitez, are widely criticised by ex players.

Aguero is still talking about Chelsea:

"If an offer comes in from the right club and Atletico feels it is the right price, then a deal can be done," Aguero told the Daily Star on Sunday.

"Of course Chelsea is of interest as they are one of the most powerful teams in European football.

"They show their intent summer after summer in the transfer market and more often than not that intent will see them end the season with at least one trophy."

Looking to the future
Aguero admits that building a stable future is amongst his priorities, but top of the list is silverware.

"As a player you need to look after your future financially but the truth is most top European clubs would offer me top packages," he said.

"What I need to consider is where I can win things and I know for sure I can win things at Chelsea.

"You look at their players and you are excited about any future you may have there."

The talented striker admits that the thought of playing alongside Didier Drogba amongst other Chelsea stars appeals massively.

He said: "To be the strike partner of Didier Drogba is a thing many players would love to be.

"But it's not just Drogba - it's Lampard, Terry, Anelka, Essien, and maybe even Fernando Torres.

"They have quality players everywhere."

Can't see us getting him and Torres of course, the paymaster wouldn't allow it, but he certainly seems interested in a move.

How realistic is it that Torres will join Chelsea? What would Liverpool fans think of him if he did join a rival EPL club? Torres at Chelsea is quite a scary prospect, when he's fit that is, or he might just join to keep Essien company on the treatment table. :p

The more I read from Yossi the more glad I am we sold him. Hopefully Ancelotti won't ask him to turn up for big matches, track back or get stuck in when things aren't going the teams way.

Good riddance gob*****. Hope you enjoy your fat wage sitting on the bench what with it being your dream and all.

Is this about Benayoun's comments? tbf Benitez sounds like a terrible man manager and it's no coincidence that several players have spoken out about it now. Going to be awfully strange for all the Inter players, losing their best mate in Mourinho and gaining Benitez who will tell the players that the fans are boo'ing their performance instead of his decisions. Nice. Benyoun deserved a permanent spot in that Liverpool side, he was one of the best players in the squad

I'm with jakeke on this one sorry, Benayoun hardly seems a trouble maker and it's not as if he's the only player who's come out and said similar to be fair to him. unless I'm missing something?

It makes you wonder why Benayoun signed a new contract on the back of Benitez signing his if he hated playing for him so much.

I mentioned last summer that I wouldn't have been surprised if Benayoun was sold then as Benitez got ****ed off with him towards the back end of the previous season when played for Israel while still being injured (and coming off after just 10 minutes).

Reira's the only other player that's spoken out after he got binned for hitting a reserve team player.

A player that claims to have respect for Liverpool fans gives an interview to the NOTW and joins Chelsea because he wanted to play more? :p

edit: and it wasn't so long ago that Benayoun gave an interview saying Benitez loved him.

well i'm sure he's got his own reasons for saying it obviously.

I don't doubt it. Benitez is a ruthless manager; in some ways it's his biggest strength and weakness. He won't let personal issues clowd his judgement on footballing matters but equally he can upset players.

The quote about how Benitez told Benayoun he could leave is typical Benitez. However if Benitez was such a terrible man like Benayoun says, why did he sign a new deal when he found out Benitez was staying?

You only hear players whining when things aren't going well; 2 seasons ago Benayoun was playing well, became a regular in the side and was happy to sign a new deal to play under Benitez. Last season he was rubbish (he was ok for the first few weeks tbf), wasn't a regular in the team and now claims Benitez tried to break him.

Back to the transfer news:

Hodgson has given an interview where he says that he rates Insua as a player, however Fiorentina are in talks to sign him but that they started before he became manager and he doesn't know how advanced the talks are.

Good to hear that our manager is running things:rolleyes:

btw, that's not a dig at Hodgson, but the ****s running our club.

Agree. He's our only left back and the ***** are still trying to sell him

Hodgson was a muppet for taking us on tbh. It was obvious whoever came in would just be a face to put to the fans once Broughton had sold off Torres to his beloved Chelsea and other players had left.

Not too much news on the transfer front this weekend. :(

I wonder what's going to happen at Liverpool though, they seem to be in almost as much of a mess as Fulham. If Hodgson doesn't get them in the top four at least then that's two sets of supporters that are going to hate him.

Strange decision imo...Insua is a definite prospect for the future, played virtually an entire season at left back last season and to be honest he did pretty well. At times he was brilliant, at other times not so. But he is only 21, pretty young in defending terms and certainly a future prospect.

With Aurelio already gone, Insua going would leave us with no left back of note at all. I guess that would make our first Hodgson signing have to be a left back.

It'll all be kicking off in earnest next week I'd say.
