I'd be willing to let both those go for the right prices (£30-35 million for the pair) and providing that the funds are then used on sensible replacements.

Id be gutted if they both went for that much. It'd need to be absolute minimum £40m the pair to even think about it and id probably expect slightly more than that.

SSN reporting that Mascherano and Kuyt are being targetted by Benitez...Jagielka being linked with Arsenal...made a £16mill offer for him and Jose the special one is after Evra.

Jagielka would be a nice signing. Getting a bit nervous with no more CB's coming in with the preseason already kicking off. Its not like our new CB pairing are going to last the whole season injury/suspension free (Woudl be nice ;))

I think we have all the outfield players we need, just need two more CBs and a brucey bonus would be a new GK too :p

On 26 July 2007, he was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player and given international clearance to compete in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy.[5] Manager Rafael Benítez was pleased with his signing, saying: "I am looking forward to seeing him score goals for Liverpool in the future and [we] believe he has the mentality and the character you need to do well in England".[4] The next day, Lucas made his debut against Portsmouth, coming on for Mohamed Sissoko in the second half. He also won a penalty in the match against Everton after Phil Neville handballed on the line from Lucas's shot.

Lucas has scored 1 goal in 78 appearances.
Thought he had scored much more than that.

Is he a defensive midfielder? :o

I suppose if he can't get Ashley he's after the next best thing.

CA when questioned about a move to RM said:
"Cole will be important for us next season. 100%."
Ancelotti stated he had not spoken to the England left-back about his future, but said he had no need to.
"I didn't speak with him, I don't need to speak with him and he doesn't need to speak to me," he said.

I'd like it to be a minimum of £40m for the pair, but I dont think we would get more than £15 mil absolute max for Kuyt (I actually think a more realistic figure would be £10m) , so £15m max for Kuyt, £20m max for Mascherano. I'd prefer £25m+ for Mascherano but again I just dont see it as a figure that someone would actually pay, so I think £20m is the more realistic figure.

He has been played mainly as a defensive midfielder, although to be honest imo the rare occasions that I have seen him deployed in a more forward role he has played better.

Ah okay. So he plays alongside Mascho? I swear he has scored more than 1 goal. Just seems very low considering the amount of appearances. Either way, from the sounds of it, he is a player Liverpool should keep a hold of and as someone already pointed out, he isn't that old.

In a away I feel sorry for him but at the same time I'm livid it appears he joined the club knowing he would have to stand back and let this happen.

It would be interesting to know if he really knew the situation he was walking into when he took over. One of the first things he said when he took over was that the first team squad was too small and that he doesn't want to lose any players until we've brought some new players in.

Since then we've sold (or are about to) 3 players, 1 of which Hodgson admitted he wanted to keep.

Yeah, Rafas fascination with fielding a team of 9 holding players , 1 goalkeeper and 1 forward :)

Would like to see him play forward a bit more, a couple of times he played in Gerrards role when Gerrard was injured and I thought he performed really really well in that role, man of the match in a couple of them. Awkward I suppose to play him in that role with Gerrard there though.

Wenger said after the Barnet game that Arsenal don't have a number 1 keeper. To be honest that either means he doesn't have a first choice in mind and will just rotate between Almunia, Fabianski, Sczesny and Mannone, or that we don't have a number 1 and he'll be buying one. I'm more inclined to go for the former. I think this upcoming season we'll find it easy to score goals and our year will be defined by how the defense performs. We definitely need more CB's with Silvestre and Gallas leaving, Wenger is still uncertain about Sol Campbell's future, but I think we need at least another CB, ideally 2.

He certainly played with a lot of discipline but this idea that he was a defensive midfielder and sat alongside Mascherano is rubbish. You only have to look at the guardian's chalkboards to see the area's of the pitch Lucas played in for the majority of games and he was playing very much as a box to box player with Masch sitting.

There were games where he played more defensive but there were games (mainly towards the back end of the season) where he was given more freedom and was very much an attacking midfielder.

edit: and iinm, he's scored 5 goals for us.

Certainly I agree that towards the back end of the season he was given more freedom and played more as an attacking midfielder, and did considerably better in that role too imo.

I dont think the player formally known as the hottest young brazilian talent since Ronaldinho when he signed should even be considered as a candidate for being shipped out of liverpool.

^ care to elaborate? :p

Also, still quite interested in where Joe Cole will end up this season. He seems to be pricing himself out of a good club, in interviews I've seen he seems ok but this makes him come across as an absolute ****.
