A few blogs have gone a bit mental over it for some reason but it's not anything to worry about.

Cesc has never said he wouldn't one day want to return to Barca. It's his home town, he grew up with Xavi, Messi, Pique and Iniesta, and when one day he hasn't the legs for the EPL he'll return.

He'd be stupid to want the move now - he wouldn't get into their team. The only way it'd happen is if we get a Kaka sized amount of money for him, or a heck of a lot money and e.g. Toure.

Yeah it's all a big overblown media mess. This is what Fabregas actually said:

If I leave Arsenal it will be to play at Barcelona. I do not know when it will happen, I am very happy at Arsenal and I am in no hurry to leave.

The Mirror actually went over the top with a story that Fabregas is only staying this summer if Wenger goes mental with money and splashes out on players like Torres. The Sun likened Arsenal to a sinking ship which is funny because the guy who wrote the article is a Liverpool supporter who's ship has well and truly sunk.

I suppose you can let them off as between now and the world cup there is hardly anything for them to write about so they have to fabricate a few things here and there to fill the back page.

The Spanish papers have been taking everything out of context. He is still under contract for a number of years so his future is already sorted. Not to mention the big cash bonus he has just received. I wish Arsenal fans would just believe that he isn't going anywhere for now, he's said it himself many, many times throughout the season that he is happy at Arsenal and that it's where he wants to be. His comments were that if he moves in the future he wants it to be to Barcelona, which we all knew already. The Spanish press are absolutely terrible, we always hear from them mentioning " A source close to the player" IE. no source we're just going to make up a load of rubbish in order to use a bit of print space.

Indeed, I think you'd be mad to actually think Cesc wouldn't want to go play for Barca.

Back on topic though, of course Cesc will go to Barca, they're the best club in the world and I imagine any player would dream of playing for them, especially as it's where all his family is and where he grew up and learnt the game. I think this summer he stays with Arsenal and next summer he'll leave us. Also I think that he does have a soft spot for Arsenal and will do everything he can with his agent to try and get the transfer fee as large as possible.

He's one of our star players. Wenger may have gone off the boil recently in terms of transfers, but if you look at Viera and Henry for example, he'll know roughly when to cash them in. Remember the two final seasons for both Frenchmen, they weren't that great in comparison to earlier years.

Even Overmars I felt was sold at the right time, he was very fast and (unlike Walcott) very effective, but I remember thinking that RB's were starting to be able to predict him.

I don't know if the press have paraphrased it but it does seem very odd that after signing a new contract fairly recently he's talking about getting his future sorted out.

Literally a week or two ago. Worst case scenario is that this was done to kind of price Barcelona (if possible) out of buying him. Or at least bump several million onto his value.

Though as said, I don't really believe this means anything at all. Henry while also being "courted" by Barca did this and he didn't leave until we were ready to let him go.

Cesc will leave, it's just a matter of time like it was with Ronaldo.

Another trophyless year next season and I think he will be off. He's got to be worth about £50M though so it's not the end of the world when he does go.

Because it sells papers. We all know that it will happen eventually but I would be surprised if it happened this summer. Personally I think we have one more season with him and then he will go.

Hopefully Nasri or Ramsey will be ready to move straight into his position, maybe even wiltshere at a push. Anyone know how he got on at Bolton? Cant say I paid too much attention to him with the horrible ending we had to the season with Spurs nearly catching us.

yes but at Man Utd he gets many more guilt edged chances.

you cant just compare pre and post man utd stats. at the end of the day when you spend 30 millions on someone you probably expect a bigger return than he has provided.

but its the chances he has missed and his body language when on the pitch that is the real issue.



expectations change when you make a big money move - if you dont perform - or worse underperform people will judge you buy the transfer fee and how you have done...

Agree with everything you say there NickG. I remember the first summer we were interested in him and I was speaking to Linoge on MSN. He linked me to a Youtube video where Berbatov scored some really spectacular goals and yes he actually took players on. At the time I was very sceptical of what he would bring to the team and after watching the montage thought yeah ok he's the real deal.

Statistically this maybe one of his better seasons but im afraid his style of play is not suited to or game. In the derby the other week there was many occasions where our wingers broke after he moved the ball wide from the centre circle yet he just saunters up the pitch and our wingers have to slow down to accommodate him.

The more you look at him the more an unusual transfer this is. He's not a team player and he's not one for busting his balls in either box. Berbatov is an unsual player in that Fergie usually goes for a more team oriented player.

I don't think so, I'm just not sure who would buy him, whether he would go, whether Fergie would take what would surely be a big loss.

I think he has a place at United, I think we just need to start playing a two striker system, having just him and Rooney is not enough.

Utd fans were just looking for a scapegoat when its not working, picking a guy having his best year in the premier league and deciding he's a flop because he hasn't produced the same form as what you paid for, is laughable. He's EXACTLY the player you bought from Spurs, he scored more goals/game played than ever before.

Yes he is EXACTLY the same player that played at spurs, the same lazy, not good enough player who some fans said would never ever fit into the united style of play and would be a complete disaster.

Which he has been, he may well be enjoying his best season, its just his best isnt anywhere near good enough for United.

He gets virtually nothing about being a striker right, his movement off the ball in the box is just embarrassing, and some of his finishing..............

A lot of torres to chelsea rumours going around in the press. Can't see it happening though, seems just to be some ancelotti comments taken out of context and drogba saying he would be happy to play with torres... He'd be very expensive for an injury prone player too, not that I'd be against it though.
