Its called free speech, tapping up is supposedly going behind a clubs back, agreeing personal terms and/or persuading the player to essentially strike to force a move.

Talking about a player in the press is NOT tapping up, EVERY MANAGER in the world does this, because press constantly ask about just about every player, get over it.
So what do you called the shenanigans whist fabregas was at the world cup? That wasn't players talking through the press, they were talking to the player directly. I'm a Liverpool fan and even I agree that this episode from a Spanish club is a step too far. If you want a player talk to the club in private.

Maybe Xavi's bored of playing so much, and realises getting Cesc over will allow him to loaf about on the bench not doing much, whilst collecting his tasty paycheck, and enjoying the sun?

He'll move, it's just a matter of time.
I don't think even the staunchest of Arsenal fans won't admit that Fabregas will go to Barcelona eventually. If anything, I think that's partly what makes it so tiresome. They don't need to waste countless column inches trying to persuade him to leave. If Arsenal accepted a decent offer from them, he'd happily go in a shot.

Yet every season they spend more time bleating to the press than they do actually giving us a fair valuation of his price.

I have lost total respect for Xavi over this. I hope Fabregas does go there and replace him and he has to watch from the bench.

Will be interesting if we meet them in the CL now. That will be a very explosive game.

Yes Fab will be leaving at the end of the season but to say he will come in January when Arsenal are out of the race is very disrespectful.

^^^ I would cheer for barca, I'll never hear the end of it if spurs knock out barca! I really wish Wenger invested in our squad this summer and that we draw tottenham and barca at some stage and knock 'em out, that'll be better than winning the EPL for me.

ok maybe not but it would still be fun!

I don't think a player should be held against his will per say, at a club he doesn't want to play for.

I don't think the whole "will he? won't he?" story will affect Cesc's game, I think he's mature enough to not comment on it and get on with his football.

Mr Wanger has handled this all very well, He's right in the sense that big clubs shouldn't be able to come in, say they like this player and stump up the money for him and that be done. He's comments have being correct imo.

Barca players are entitled to say what they want, FIFA could tell them to be quiet but I doubt it.

I do like the comment about being out of the title race by Christmas :D

That is the idea of a contract, you pay x amount for a player for x number of years. If you let a player leave whenever they want half way through a contract it would be mayhem. Ronaldo has decided that he has had enough at real madrid and wants to go to portugal and take it easy. Would it be fair on Real Madrid to let him go because he doesnt want to be there. Transfer values would plummet to nothing if players were allowed to move at will.

Sepp Blatter wants that to happen because his beloved european teams would benefit massively.

Football players have it massively, massively, massively, massively easy. If their biggest problem is deciding where to play their football then that is sad.

This is why I've never really like Barcelona.

A couple of their players seem incredibly arrogant and I love it when they get beat.

Yeh Xavi is great but I can't stand him I can imagine him being a total * on the pitch, this just shows how up their own * they are.

I'm not an Arsenal fan but this is shocking the way they have gone about the whole Fabregas thing, are they professional ?

Get shot of him I say, what is the point he is going next year regardless

Haha, this just made me think of that article about crouchie and the whore who said that spanish players treat her like a whore whereas crouchie was a gent.

Xavi does look like an arrogant **** though, I will give you that.

Aye Crouch is such a Gentleman :/

If I was half as good as Xavi, I would be an arrogant ****.

Abbey has apparently told Crouch that he has to leave London if he has any hopes of saving their Marriage
She's isn't really one to talk. She had an affair and was sent home by crouch after the cocaine scandal last time WAG's were allowed at the WC.

I don't like Crouch, he wont do well at Anfield. Can't see him and Torres being a hit.

I don't understand why players like Crouch are such arrogant tossers, he's just paid lots, compared to other European strikers he's dog ****. He's just paid lots, people need to make the distinction between good players and average players who earn lots. Money - Quailty no, no.

I don't understand why Messi doesn't come out, whip his **** out and **** on a defender in a game.

"fair play to the lad"

Spurs could be set to sign West Ham, Arsenal, and Stoke transfer target Loic Remy this summer after the forward said he is keen on a move to north London.

Manager Harry Redknapp may be on the lookout for a new striker in the next couple of weeks amid reports that ex-Liverpool man Peter Crouch is considering heading back to Merseyside to join Everton.

Remy has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs so far this summer, and is said to have rejected a move to Stoke after Nice accepted a bid in the region of £14million for his services last week.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman has talked up his prospects of leaving Nice for England in the coming weeks - naming White Hart Lane as his destination of choice.

"A move to Spurs would be interesting," Remy told French newspaper L'Equipe.

"Stoke is not the move that I want. Nice is in real need of money and it should be adaptable with the price to help sell me."

Remy was originally thought to be heading to either of Tottenham's London rivals West Ham or Arsenal.

However, reports of interest from the Hammers and the Gunners has cooled in recent weeks - putting Redknapp in pole position for the 23-year-old.

JEsus christ, so a player can't have friends, from another club and if so he is not allowed to speak to them till they work at the same club.

When will people face up to the reality, that ALL football clubs check with agents/players if they actually want a move before putting time, effort, money going for a player, its retarded not to.

I also don't think Barca pulled Puyol out, drunk, of his world cup celebrations and gave him a contract, numbers and asked him to talk to Cesc.

Barca offered cash, press were all over the story and every day the press will ask anyone they can find questions about said player.

It happens with EVERY team, EVERY year, EVERY transfer window, EVERY club, EVERY manager and almost every player.

But everytime its a player from your club all that particular clubs fans go up in arms mental, even though its completely fine, for instance, for Wenger to say ARshavin is great in the press, and for half our team to say Arshavin would be a great buy, or for instance for half the Arsenal club for about 2 years to say they'd love Yaya at the club. All clubs do it, pretending anyone doesn't is daft and getting upset about, players talking, is daft.

Not all clubs do it to this extent.

Martin O'Neill has resigned!

I bet it's over the probable Milner transfer.
It's strange that he's waited until a week before the season starts. Can only assume it's because of Milner too. Villa have sldo been very quite in the transfer market this summer.
