Seems the forums get spammed by Man utd talk, which in this thread doesn't really involve latest transfer news...

I don't have a problem with any team in the prem, it's just annoying have to always read pap about Man Utd before reading anything related to each topic.

Wenger already said he won't be making a bid for Shay Given. Schwarzer I'm unsure about. It says a lot about our goalkeeping situation if we are being linked with an average goalkeeper in his final years at the top level of competition. It's a bit of a shame that Wenger appears to be sticking to his guns with Fabianski, he's played more minutes in pre-season in any of our other 'keepers and for that reason I think he'll start on Sunday, which is a game I'm now dreading. If Almunia started then I'd be much more confident of 3 points but with Fabianski in goal and then Song, Diaby, Fabregas, van Persie and others still out we are going to be down to the barebones right from the first game of the season.

Wenger said to us to have faith in Song, he will prove us all wrong and to a certain extent he has, he's improved greatly in the last season and hopefully will carry on improving, but Fabianski isn't young, he's not a kid any more and surely we have more than enough down the back of the sofa for a decent goalkeeper, even an average one would be fine but when it comes down to your goalkeeper not only being the target of fans, but the target of opposition tactics then you need to take a look and see that you're just being ignorant about the issue. Legia Warsaw targeted Fabianski, every corner they had they'd surround him, leading to his frankly comical trip over Vermaelen's legs, from which he fell flat on his face and watched the ball roll in the net. What's even more worrying is that if Fabianski is considered number 1 then Almunia has already came out and said he won't be happy playing second fiddle and would leave the club for regular football. That leaves us with 1 **** keeper and 2 rookies, no matter what people think of Almunia he has to be considered the best option at the moment. He's no Seaman, his mistakes have cost us in the past without doubt, but he is immeasurably more talented than old Flappyhandski.

Siddy aren't going to sell Given to us and I find the whole goalkeeper triangle thing that was reported a few days ago in the paper totally laughable. Friedel to Fulham, Almunia to Aston Villa and Schwarzer to Arsenal, no disrespect to any of those players or teams but why would Friedel move to Fulham? Barring the manager change Fulham are in a far better position than Aston Villa at the moment, plus, there's the hardly small matter of Villa not even having a proper manager, they don't need Friedel when they already have Schwarzer. The whole O' Neill walking out thing I find totally laughable, without going off too much as there's a thread already dedicated to this, but in 4 years he's had 120 million to spend, that's 30 million a summer and now that Lerner / the board have decided there will be no more spending apart from what you sell he's decided to leave. Barry went last year which might have annoyed him, but Man Utd have just lost one of the best players in the world, Fergie didn't have anywhere near the whole 80 million to spend on new players and he didn't have a bitch fit and leave.

Anyway, back to goalkeepers... if Almunia plays we have a good chance, if Fabianski plays then I expect it to be a complete horror show.

Given is miles better than Schwarzer, guess they'll never sell to you though. You really need someone better than Flappyhandski though cos he is truly ****ing awful.

Id have Given at Utd tomorrow if it was ever likely to happen (unless Utd make a deal with Celtic to sign him before handing over £5m or so after a few weeks hahaha, because Utd never do that!!!hahahaha)

May only be a stop gap for 3/4/5 years but it would still be a pretty cheap option, and personally think he could handle himself in the CL without any issue at all

Did Wenger ever consider Ben Foster?

Why would he want to - Foster couldnt handle the pressure at Utd consistantly, and its no less at the Emirates (could be concievably be more given how badly Arsenal need bigger silverware than Emirates Cup ;)

Foster will do well for Birmingham, I think thats a great level for his ability and he will get better - I just dont think he could ever handle expectations at the very top, he may do in the future with more consistant games under his belt

It is when it involves playes bought over a year ago or who have moved on several years ago.

It dwarfs a thread like this and turns it into yet another Man Utd discussion thread.

Why don't you RTM any posts you feel that are off topic instead of contributing to it?

Given is far better than Schwarzer, Arsenal are missing a trick if they go for him over Given.

No I don't think he did, I never heard of him being linked with us and can't quite remember Wenger talking about him but don't quote me on that, I'm still dying from way too many beers last night. :(

If we had the rumoured £30 million or so for transfers then I don't see why he didn't at least make enquiries this summer about Akinfeev, Lloris, Handanovic, Stekelenburg or any other decent goalkeeper that you can think of. They don't even have to be absolute world beaters, just dependable and not absolutely error prone. Fabianski is an absolute clown and I can't believe that we are in the position where he may be starting one of the hardest and most important games of the season. Under a decent manager I expect Liverpool to be right up there this season, maybe not challenging for the title this year but very much in the mix. I don't see us challenging for the title either though, given Wengers' inability to buy at least another CB and his refusal to look at the goalkeeper situation. I am starting to grow a little bit tired of the whole "a player coming back from injury is like a new signing".

No it isn't, it's yet another injury prone player that you've taken to collecting over the past few years coming back for a few weeks before being sidelined for six months due to a broken nail.

Yeah I agree, I don't rate Schwarzer anything more than just an average, mostly reliable 'keeper. Just shows how far up **** creek we are when he is genuinely superior to what we already have considering we're a top four club.

I'd love for Arsenal to get Given, but siddy just aren't going to sell to them. I don't think Schwarzer will be a bad signing, he will be a solid stop gap, until they can get their hands on a better keeper. (no pun intended). He's definitely a hell of a lot better than the crop of crap they have at the moment.

I can't see Given wanting to go to Fulham if Arsenal are in for him though.

But City don't really care if he goes or not. They aren't exactly struggling for funds. It will be the same as the Bellamy situation. Go to the club city are willing to accept offers from, or stay and sit on the bench/in the reserves.

I will literally rofl if Spurs sign Gallas. :D

I'm sure you would but for most Arsenal fans they probably won't care. When Gallas was allowed to leave on a free I was completely indifferent. He was great at times, but utter dog **** at other times. I don't really think Chelsea cared when he left them and after that game against Birmingham he showed his true colors. A pathetic little tantrum thrower who needs to grow the **** up.

If Bellamy wants to leave to go to Spurs (for example) and Siddy aren't willing to sell him to Spurs then can't he just buy out the rest of his contract and become a free agent?

You have one good centreback. :D

I think it depends when he signed his last contract.
