If a player like Di Maria is available this summer then Ferguson would bid. But rightly so like he did last summer if other teams are willing to match any transfer bid and beat our wage offer significantly, then he is right to walk away from the deal. Karim Benzema anyone ? More worryingly if you do try and out bid teams like Real Madrid in the wage stakes, your going to get everyone else in the squad banging Ferguson's door down for a better deal.

What? United dont pay inflated transfer prices?

Berbatov? hello?
Three times the players value?
Van der sar? who else was interested? nobody.

How do you know that? And if that were true surely it just shows how great a transfer it was? I bet Arsenal would trade all 3 of their **** keepers for VDS.

I remember all those years ago with VDS at Fulham and I think it was Neimi at Southampton both having really outstanding seasons - obviously Utd got the right one, and I dont think anyone could have guessed how VDS would continue to hold down the No1 shirt on merit for this length of time (it will catch up with him soon however)

Undoubtedly he has been a quality signing - along with the cheap as chips Evra and Vidic (although saying that imagine the same transfers now at the same stage of their careers from the same clubs.......would be at least double what Utd paid at the time maybe even treble)

Utd are crying out for an attacking / creative midfielder but I wouldnt be surprised if we sign a left winger ( DSilva covers both roles although maybe considered not bulky enough for EPL) as well as a striker - although Villa would be too expensive imo, as I said last summer we desperately need a replacement for VDS now that Foster is not an option and PIG never was, surely HAS to be done this summer

You know, I've only been here 1 year and 2 months and you are already really getting on my ****. Sometimes you post the occasional agreeable comment, but as an Arsenal fan I have to say almost every one of your posts totally shocks me and hardly ever makes any sense whatsoever. Why don't you just go and fondle your secret Spuds tattoo?

how much did we pay for VDS? i know fulham paid roughly 7-8mill when they got him from Juventus, about the same time as we were failing to sign ronaldinho i believe ?!

imagine we had signed him up front and not suffered with the tirade of bad keepers we had to endure!

rumoured to be £2m (according to wiki) although fee was officilly undisclosed

Rumours abound that Barca are now in negotiations for Fabregas along with Villa, planning to meet Wenger this week...so wouldnt be surprised if Fabregas leaves us this season.

Also Barca are currently being linked with Torres...Torres and Villa as a front line strike force would be amazing if Torres managed to stay fit lol.

Just hearing about this on SSN at the moment.

I thought Cesc would give it another year but I guess there's only so many times people can keep saying this.

He was going eventually anyway and although some people will be crying about it I don't think it's necessarily the end of the world. Based on one if and it's a big if - Wenger takes Barca for all the money they've got and reinvests every single penny back into the squad.

If he sells Cesc and doesn't spend the money on players he deserves the sack imo.

I still strongly believe that Fabregas will be with us at the start of the next season. He's under contract and Arsene Wenger is a man who likes to have his contracts fulfilled. Maybe there's a slim chance that Cesc will leave, but I've not heard anything from Cesc or Wenger to indicate that, it's all the talk of Barcelona and while you can admire them on the pitch, you must say that off the pitch they are rather unscrupulous.

The talk is that he's asked Wenger to leave and I doubt he would stand in his way.

Barca and Real always act in this way when signing players, nothing is ever done about it and it usually ends up in them getting their men.

Would Barca pay more than Chelsea / City though for Torres - Im not sure they would. Yes they can certainly offer more than City in footballing terms but might Torres want to be big star in a relatively small pond , or an equal amongst stars.......and how would you fit Torres, Villa and Messi in the same team ( just thinking about if it could be done)

Villa is rumoured to cost £30 - 40m , Torres will probably cost £40m+ (maybe less because of injuries) - and he could go for £60m + if bidding war erupts - not sure Barca would chase THAT hard even though he would score dozens for them

---------Torres---------
---Messi---------Villa---

--Fabregas-----Iniesta--
-----------Xavi---------

AN Other (not abysmal)--Marquez--Puyol--Alves

---------Valdes---------

Bojan
Pinto
Milito
Maxwell
Yaya
Busquets

Easy. Though I might move Puyol left and bring in Gallas, though a better solution would be to play fantasy football and bring in Ashley Cole at left back.

If Barcelona do acquire all the players they've been talking about then I do hope they don't turn into the new Real Madrid. Just seems to be a team not focusing on balance when you play a midfield of Xavi, Cesc and Iniesta and then a front 3 of Messi, Torres and David Villa.

Villa - Torres - Messi
Iniesta - Xavi - Cesc

...

Everyone else might as well pull out of the CL :p

LOL yup with a team lining up like that....no point in anyone being in the CL:p

Just reading the Daily Fail and they are saying if Fabregas goes to Barca then Toure, Bojan and Ibra might be offered as part of the deal....not sure about Ibra as i dont rate him all that highly and plus we have our strikers sorted...same with Bojan as well...never really that impressed with him in all honesty.

Anyhow take it with a pinch of salt as its the Daily Fail.

Let's not get carried away. Barca are not going to be signing villa, fabregas and torres in one transfer window. I think villa is a cert and fabregas might happen but torres will not end up at barca. If torres goes it will probably be to chelsea or man city but I'm not convinced at all that he will go.

My team wouldn't have to play Barca, so I hope they get all three. That would be awesome. I think they need Fabregas least, they can carry Kieta or Busquets in a midfield containing Xavi and Iniesta behind a front three of Messi, Torres and Villa.

Ibrahimovic will not come to Arsenal. He was offered a trial some years ago, and didn't want to come then, Can't imagine Wenger would want him, or where he would fit.

I don't see why Barca wanted him either. Especially not when you factor in they lost someone more potent and had to pay money to do so.

Cahill has re-signed so very pleased. 56 goals in 209 games I'm frankly amazed he's gone untouched by the top 4 for so long. Especially when the season gets on and you have injuries he can fill in anywhere in the midfield and up top.

He gets stuck in and never gives up. Both him an arteta should have been snapped up years ago.
