What about all those conspiracy theories about Reina and the goal he fluffed up at the weekend??? :D

Certainly would prefer Reina but we live in the real world. I am surprised we are even allowed to talk with Given to be honest.

LOL at Almunia complaining that the pressure of Arsenal being linked with other goalies is effecting his game...

Maybe playing for one of the top teams in EPL isnt the right job for him then?

We've agreed a £2.3m fee with Boro for Jones, he passed a medical today and will finalise the move sometime tomorrow.

For the life of me I can't understand why we're signing him. As I (eventually) worked out earlier in the thread, once you discount the likes of Plessis, El Zhar etc, we've only got 15 non-homegrown players over the age of 21. We have no need to bring in a homegrown player to free up a foreigner spot and in most people's opinion, Jones is a worse keeper than Cavalieri (and Gulacsi imo).

Very odd signing :(

Bit of a odd one for sure, but I trust Roy for now. This Toivenen looks interesting.

If City won't sell Bellamy to Spurs because they're rivals for a CL place then why on earth would they sell Given to Arsenal and strengthen one of their glaring weaknesses??

To a certain extent, thats where Bellamy screwed himself, and Redknapp by being a loudmouthed twit, both of them, what have either done to endear themselves to City, on the other hand Given is a model professional, good to the club, no problems with the manager they have no reason to hold him back from going to a good club.

Also, as with anyone who watched Arsenal on Sunday, goalkeeper is not going to turn them from also rans into title contenders, Spurs have been moving forwards in the past 5 years, Arsenal definately haven't, if I was managing City I'd be more worried about Mr loves to spend at Spurs than Mr Principles McLostit at Arsenal.

I still can't see Given rumour being true, mostly because 90% of these rumours are rubbish, sorry 99.9999%.

The only thing that makes the Given rumour seem true, is its a lot less ridiculous than Arsenal spending 25mil + on Reina.

Regarding the Schwarzer rumour, apparently they had a bid in May rejected at £2-3m, if they bid say £3m+Almunia, i'd be tempted to take it, Almunia with a fresh start might be good, although he said he's not thinking about another English club.

£3.5-4m is what will probably be accepted for Schwarzer, and I can see Given or someone joining us, especially if we contact them, they'd be more inclined to let him join us than Arsenal/Spurs for example.

I imagine he can stop naming Cavalieri or someone as the sub player as Jones is considered home grown, and have players like Poulsen and any signings extra knowing it's not taking away the extra home grown spot, I mean its effectively a +1 Home Grown spot without any worry. Plus I can see him selling Cavalieri for more than £2.3m that was paid.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger wants to tie up a £2.5m deal for Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in time for the visit of Blackpool on Saturday and it could pave the way for the Cottagers to move for Given as his replacement.

I hope that isnt true. I would prefer Given to be honest. I wouldnt like to be in the same situation next season when we are after another goalie.

It's not relevant though. The only number that matters regarding this home grown rule is the maximum of 17 foreign players over the age of 21.

When you ignore the likes of Plessis and El Zhar (who the club are trying to get shot of but won't play regardless), we only have 15 foreign players over the age of 21. If both Kyrgiakos and Masch leave which they're likely to do, we'll then only have 13. We don't need to sign Jones to free up a foreign spot, we'll have 4 free spots already and we're not likely to sign 4 foreign players between now and the end of the month.

The only reasons for signing Jones is either Hodgson thinks he's better than Cavalieri (which most would disagree) or because we could make a profit on the deal, in which case we've got a very good youngster (imo he should be our number 2 now) in Gulacsi (and 2 more coming through).

If that happened I'd cry, unless we sorted out an agreement to loan back Schwarzer and loan in Given from Fulham(assuming City won't sell Given to Arsenal), then we can switch the players officially next summer, what are the rules these days. Is it you can't make 2 transfer in the same window, or is it you can't play for 3 different clubs in the same season, something along those lines.

Given will be around for probably 3-4 years more than Schwarzer, and is a truly great keeper.

Cant see Schwarzer being too impressed with doing that. Unfortunately I think we are going to end up with the older and worse of the two in my eyes. Still better than what we got though.
