Goal.com, but ....Liverpool have told Barcelona that they want £24.5m in cash for Javier Mascherano after rejecting an offer of £18.8m plus Alexander Hleb for the 26-year-old Argentine.

Id have probably accepted ~19m plus Hleb, but good to see we're not willing to be bent over.

Hleb's almost worthless so I wouldn't accept that. I wouldn't be against taking him as part of the deal but with the fee being closer to £24m + him. In normal circumstances Masch is worth at least what we got for Alonso last summer if not more. However with him pushing for a move and with him entering the last 2 years of his contract you've got to be a bit more realistic and ~£25m would be the bottom line imo.

lol but seriously take away the fee and we have made good signings.

well I think the way City crushed Liverpool last night does kinda show City have made some good acquisitions, but there have been plenty of stinkers in there too:

-£25m for Adebayor - I think every gooner was trying to keep a straight face whilst that deal was going through, in case their laughter scuppered the deal.
-£30+m for Robinho - He was good for about 5 minutes, then just a waste of space/wages
-£18m for Jo
-£17.5m for Santa Cruz - A rip off for a player who is injured often
-£10m for Bridge - 2nd choice LB wherever he goes?

I reckon that to be over £100m flushed down the toilet...
Time will tell on the Milner/Ireland deal, Milner was very good last night, though I have to say 26m+a player of Ireland's quality again smacks of rip-off.

Those players cost more than the entire Liverpool squad playing last night...

I don't blame City for being rich, it's just depressing when your club has no money.

Adebayor always going to be behind Tevez if they are playing 1 up front.

Robinho is a brilliant player, just not in the Premier League.

Jo was before the big money.

Santa Cruz because Hughes bums him.

Bridge, they needed a half decent LB, but then they bought in other players.

I don't think most people understand that this bloke literately has unlimited money, he wants the best, he wants the team to win everything so he will let Manchini get in the players he wants to play the system he wants. Obviously some are not going to fit properly and players he thinks will work great there e.g. Milner he is going to spend stupid amounts of money on, he doesn't care how much money he flushes down the toilet. In a season or two, just like with Chelsea they will have a 'team' who will be league and top 4 finishes consistently. It's just going to take time and experimentation like with any other team.

Hleb's almost worthless so I wouldn't accept that.

Wouldn't say he's worthless. He looked decent in the league, he's just not settled since leaving Arsenal.

Take away the fee? Well anyone you get if you ignore the fee is a good signing then?

imho, you've made some very average signings and you've paid a lot of money for them. More money then sense.
