I don't get this "he's not worth £4m" malarky. £4m is spare change to a club like Arsenal, and frankly I don't see how it's massively unreasonable compared to an initial bid of £2.5m. He's definitely better than Almunia, so I'd consider it £4m well spent. Hell, we got £3m for Jay Simpson last week, and he's never kicked a ball in anger for us.

Give them £3.5m and lets be done with the charade already.

Pretty sure both bids Arsenal have made were £2m unfortunately!

i dont understand why you would bid the same amount twice.

How about you sell me that player?

Okay, how much you offering?

£2 million.

Sorry thats too low.

Okay how about my revised offer of £2 million?

Yup, they bid £2m in May, and £2m the other day. Silly really.

I think Schwarzer isn't worth 4 million, and I don't think he is 4 million better than what we currently have. Someone like Stekelenburg who plays for a good national team would be ideal though. Is the Squillaci deal finalised?

I dont understand the logic in buying Schwarzer, he is 37, he will need to be replaced within a year or two. Why not just buy a decent top french keeper?

Sure it might cost 5 times as much, but if he signs a 5 year contract, im sure you will more than reap the benefits, plus you wont need to shell out again in 2/3 years time when schwarzer is declining further.

I doubt we could afford to sign Lloris and I don't really rate Mandanda that highly who was the French #2 GK before the whole world cup saga.

IDK if you mean Sébastien Frey, I had hoped we would sign him when Fiorentina bought Boruc from Celtic, but it doesn't look like he's leaving.

I do think it's silly that we are trying to sign Schwarzer in the first place. It's a strange situation in that he is only worth a few million given his age, but it's probably in Fulham's best economic interests to keep hold of him given that a replacement of any quality will be hard to find in the time they have remaining (bar say a loan move for Given). Repeatedly making a £2m offer (if that is actually what has happened, and I don't think we'd be that daft) is just pointless and wasting our own time.

It is a stop gap until Mannone or Szczęsny are mature enough to be number one.

Fulham set to offer Zamora, Gera and Konchesky all new deals (they run out end of this season). Not sure how so many of our players were allowed to get towards their last year, that included Murphy, Davies, Zamora, Gera, Konchesky and a few others :/

Mannone will never be good enough for a top 4 team, he is 22 and hart is 23, he isn going to get much better. Szczęsny is 20 and looks extremely promising, but i would rather go with lloris even if he is going to cost big bucks, you cannot expect to win the EPL with an average keeper, unless you have an impenetrable defence and midfield, a la barcelona. Man Utd are going to have to buy a world class keeper soon as well, so its in arsenal's best interest to do their shopping now.

Mannone will probably not be good enough for a top 4 team, but writing him off because in the handful of games he's played, he's not been as good as the best young goalkeeper in the league is ridiculous.

Well he filled in when both our goalies were out in the CL and a few EPL games and I think he only did bad in one game. How many bad games has hart had? I am not saying he is as good but we havent seen enough of him to make a judgement of his ability.

I would love a world class keeper though, something we have been missing since Seaman left. Lehman was great at times but not as good as Seaman.

Go on Wenger spend £20m on a goalie, you know you want to :D

This is all totally hyperthetical but for instance it could take a few months for a new player to the league to settle into England and get used to Arsenal

A stop gap keeper like Schwarzer might need to find a new house but it wont be massively different from where he is living now - and while he might not know them well, he probably is familiar with all the defenders in the EPL therefore making communication a lot easier

The potential for dropped points from missed communication from a gk/defenders is much more vital than anywhere else on the field and can directly relate to dropped points. The potential for Arsenal to get back £3/4m from signing an experienced stop gap as apposed to a brand new player (from EPL position at the end of the season) I would say is quite likely

Of course the best option is a temporary stop gap + a young up and comer who Arsenal can blood slowly, but thats unlikely to happen I would say

This is also the ideal season to blood an up and comer - just after the WC (so they arent concerned if they arent automatic starters, they can also show how good they are in cups, and less likely to be injured for Euro quali, buying next summer player will be drastically wanting to be a starter to show consistancy for Euro 2012 etc at the end of the season)

Mr Wanger imho, should have been able to evaluate the team after last season and should have been able to do a deal very quickly at the end of the season / start of the summer.

The player then, dependant on the world cup would have had the summer to gel and get settled.

Not disputing that at all - I would still go for a cheapish experienced keeper though for a couple of seasons, even if you then pay £15m or whatever for a youngster to blood slowly

Sometimes youngsters given the No 1 straight away get too bothered with the pressure (Foster for example, who I reckon will have a much better career now he's in a less pressured environment, who had pretty decent performances week in /week out while on loan away from OT)
