lol about 4 pages now on this topic...only about 3 individual posters also :)
I agree K1ll we dont have much of an attacking midfield but Yaya has bombed forward a few times and with success but i think in January we need a good solid playmaker but i cant think of anyone  and Spurs have a quality striker in Keane but they dont play him :/

What about someone like Pirlo? He wanted to come to England and it might be his last chance for a move considering his age.

Good shout there..i like Pirlo, possibly a bit old but still a good player...i will give Mancini a ring.
I thought we may have bid for Diego but hes gone Wolfsburg now :/

City went for the big fishes in the small ponds. Tevez, Barry, Milner, Given, Toure, Roque, Adebayor... In the long run I reckon it's to attract bigger names. They could have signed Jagielka from Everton, but is that better than signing Toure from Arsenal? No offence to Everton but Arsenal is a bigger name in world football.

Good point Gilly...the players we bought are all about enhancing the reputation worldwide and Y Toure sells more than Parker...Adebayor more than Rodellega,Top 4 and a trophy this year and i can see a big player joining in the summer a Torres,Ibrahimovic etc its unlikely but we nearly signed Kaka and we werent in Champions League so hopefully the top players see our progress and will join :)

How nearly is nearly? You had a bid accepted but he said no? :p

The top top players move to win things, they are somewhat mercenary but their egos want trophies. I'm not sure how much of a draw Man City will be unless they can really prove to a top player they are capable of winning things.

If they get 4th and win the UEFA cup then maybe they'll be an attraction, anything less and I can't see a player like Torres wanting to go there.

Yeh he turned us down on personal terms...:p
Well top 4 is pretty nailed on unless we melt down as the quality in the team naturally will perform (most of the time) and i reckon that we can have a good run in the Europa with Villa out now as they looked really solid under O'Neil but i think O'Neil bought badly and they didnt really progress as much as i thought but still a good team

I wouldn't say top 4 is pretty nailed at all, you probably would have said the same at the beginning of last season. :p

O'Neil bought well with the funds he was given IMO.

I imagine the finishing table to look pretty similar to last seasons.

I would as we got 5th last season and have improved the team considerably so i would say we should move up at least a place....
I dont reckon he did tbh..he made a few good signings=Carew,Young,Friedel,Dunne,Collins but Sidwell,Reo Coker werent very good signings.

I'd say top 6 is pretty much certain (I think Everton and Villa may drop away this season), but there's no way top 4 is nailed on. You couldn't manage it last season, and so far nothing says you will this one. You had very little against Spurs.

So a draw away from home first game with a pretty makeshift team...then with a 3-0 great performance against Liverpool then a 94th min loss at a team who lost 3 at home last season isnt too bad in my opinion...and Spurs had a lot against Wigan?

Wigan will finish in the top 4 this season.

Mark my words.

I'm just pleased you've both chalked up a loss already, takes a little bit of the pressure off of us.

I'd rather Arsenal were fighting United and Chelsea for the top 2 rather than City and Spurs for the top 4, but I fear it'll be the latter...

All you're really doing is proving my point that top 4 is by no means a done deal though .

You've both lost to a team you should have beaten, you did well beating Liverpool, and they did well winning at the Brittania, and you drew with each other, but they looked better for most of that. Therefore, it's fairly even.

If top 4 was such a certainty, I'd expect you to be looking a lot more commanding.

I agree its not certain but im saying that our team and position would point towards finishing in top 4..
Well its 3 games in with a new team and 3 of our main players are injured so i think its unfair to judge us so far.
