Replacing Vieira, Pires, Henry and a good defence and goalkeeper with lesser players probably had more to do with it ;p

People always pull that out of the bag, but I think Wenger did well to address that and change it and Arsenal are usually near the top of the FP league in the last 5 years, but Vieira (and a few others) was pretty dirty

Edit - Houllier to Villa? Not bad imo

Wenger did do well, but Arsenal have gone from having balls, to having none and getting all upset when teams try and be physical.

Houllier > Villa = Decent move imho.

Fair enough, but my reasoning is that it happens because there are too many clumsy and ott tackles in England, I'm not talking about the Shawcross one, a good example is the treatment of Barton the other week, those types of tackles are very regular and that's the reason for the injuries, not because Arsenal play faster football, that should be encouraged, the rash tackles discouraged. But we'll agree to disagree because you say the English game should stay the same and that's fine, it is an attractive game to watch

Also Arsenal didn't lose to Chelsea/Man Utd because of power/size of players, I'd say it was lack of defensive nous and inability to track runners (laziness?). Most of the goals were simple counter attacks or down to somebody in the defence failing. I also think that saying the think this team lacks is height and power is also a misnoma, I don't thing this team is as successful as Vieira, Henry et al. is that they were better, simply put, that team is almost impossible to improve. Football does run in cycles and one day in the future it'll be Arsenal's turn to be at/near the top for a few seasons, then maybe Man City's/Man Utd's etc etc.

Barcelona proved that all the passion/aggression etc. is nonsense really, who's their enforcer? Iniesta? Xavi? Busquets? Arsenal just haven't found the right mix to win the title recently and haven't had squads nearly as good as Man Utd and Chelsea have, they need to concentrate on defending much more, not buy a tall player

lol barcelona never lose the ball, they dont need an enforcer.

also if they do lose the ball, all their players quickly mark everyone up and hound/pressure the other team and gain possession back very quickly. they dont need an enforcer, but they have just bought mascherano, who was the best enforcer in the EPL.

Balotelli out for 6 weeks, he's going to have surgery on knee ligaments, but the less bad ones rather than the "out for 9 months" ones.

I'm assuming it has something to do with him going off on a stretcher the other week, the way he went down it looked like one of those dodgey injuries where something had gone in a very very very slight challenge. Not good medical work though you'd think, the way he went down it looked, Ronaldo (fat one) style going down with no obvious cause and being stretchered off. Like RVP seems they let him do some basic rest treatment, he went back into light training and the ligament goes completely at that point.

I hear they just ask for the ball back, and because they're so dreamy, opposition players pass it over without thinking.

Time for 5 man midfield experiment for Spurs, or try VDV or GDS as a second striker. Then of course there's always Robbie still.

He hasn't injured his ligaments at all? whatchoo on about? he's injured the lateral meniscus which is a kind of pad of cartilage that sits in between where the two leg bones interface. I guess they gave it a few weeks to try and let the damage to it heal on its own, but as soon as he tried to do exercise on it, it became obvious that surgery was required.

My Dad got this exact injury playing pub football, and it's never properly healed. He had an operation to repair the cartilage but it didn't work. He has to wear a carbon-fibre brace every time he does any kind of exercise now. I imagine a young Balotelli with the most-expensive surgeon in the world will be OK in a couple of months though...

Shouldn't this thread be closed by now ??

We're not short on second strikers, its the first ones I worry about :p

Lazy pav or lanky up front.. hmm I still think we missed a trick not getting another decent striker..
