I've got big hopes for Nani next season, in hindsight it was probably a lot to ask for him to come into the team from nowhere and replace Ronaldo at the start of the season but come the end he really found his form so fingers crossed he has a blinding world cup, has a good pre-season and take that form into next season

A lot of if's there but if he can then maybe the need for signing players wont be as big. He's clearly got bundles of talent; I cant think of another player in the team that would have tried that chip over Gomes in the Spurs game, not even Rooney who probably would have just stuck his foot through it. Then there was that goal against Bayern....

He may have come from nowhere three or four seasons ago - but not last summer!!!

If you are talking performance wise - Im just surprised anyone expects this summer to be any different from the last two....

There wont be much of a window left if Fergie waits to see how Nani performs in pre-season (and any players he could be interested in will more than likely cost even more due to good /great WC performances)

He may have got some crucial goals in the tail end of the season, but until he has a run of games (into double figures) where his performances are always good (even if he doesnt score himself) then its still too hit and miss for me

And just because he scores in any particular game - just remember the chances he had in the same games which were wasted or his decision making was shockingly bad, its not all about the 20s or however long it takes for him to score!!!

0845 BST: Manchester United are ready to make a £28m bid for Aston Villa midfielder James Milner. Villa have already turned down a £20m bid from Manchester City for the 24-year-old who is currently with England at their pre-World Cup training camp in Austria.

I know its not a great source but if Milner goes for £28m then there is no way in hell Barca are getting Fab for £30m.

Not sure he is worth 28m and would be surprised if Utd spent that on one player when Villa cost Barca about that.

Of course he did!

Last season (08/09) how much football had he played? Very little and we all expected him to come into the team and replace Ronaldo - was never going to happen!

He's had games now to build his form and I agree with the previous poster who said he really kept us in the title race, if he can take that kind of form into next season then we've got a great player on our hands.

Yes it's still ifs and buts but I never been so confident in Nani's ability since his first season with us

Reports in Spain are saying we've tabled and offer for Aguero and Madrid have left it in his hands to decide whether or not to join us.... :D

Milner would be an EXCELLENT signing for Man Utd!

Simply because he's English, already proved how good he is in the Premier League, was AV best player last season, he would be a lot less riskier then say signing Di Maria.

£28m may be a bit high, but comparing to the £30m we paid for Berbaflop, its not too bad.

like carrick is english and proven, yet id love to see him driven out of man utd...

buying milner for anywhere near that amount would be utter maddness imo.

oh no another fergie mistake...

why didnt we pick him up for 5 million way back when?

he hasnt really improved much since then?

Change the record ffs, what was he supposed to do buy him and bench him for the next 4 years?

He showed promise at Leeds when he broke into the first team since then he's done nothing special apart from go between Villa and Newcastle god knows how many times.

He had a decent season last year but I still wouldn't pay anywhere near 28 mil for him but as always lets blame Fergie for not predicting the future

Now that I would like but I fear he's already done a deal with Chelsea.

Near 30 million for a player who last season got relegated with Newcastle?

The world has gone insane! For nigh on 30m I would expect a proven world class player especially as Villa has just gone for 35m

Not worth it let City have him if they're stupid enough to pay it!

Does anyone know how many of Milners goals were penaltys, because thinking back I was sure he scored loads of penalties this year, but with only 7 goals I can't imagine him having scored 4-5 penalties, maybe he scored a few penalties in cup games that I'm remembering?

Either way, he's incredibly over rated, 7 goals of which I'm guessing 2-3 were penalties is hardly setting the world alight for someone who played most of his highly rated part of the season as a very attacking winger.

Ouch, that looks even worse when you see who he scored against, 3 goals since Xmas, Hull, Wigan and Birmingham, other goals were against Sunderland, Pompie and Bolton.

Even worse than that, assists wise was almost all against the bottom half of the league aswell.

Birmingham was his only goal against the top half, and assist wise, one at Everton, one at Blackburn, rest against the bottom half. Considering the team came 6th, and he came up with basically nothing at all against the top half, I'd suggest thats a fairly accurate picture of his season, looked OK against the bottom half, great against Burnley and Hull, completely ineffective against the top half.

Completely overhyped by british media in a World Cup season, absolutely shocking and new behaviour...........

I still think Newcastle did fantastically well to get Gutierrez for 2.5mil and sell Milner for 15mil, thats FAR to much for Milner, 28mil, if you think Berbatov was a flop, you ain't seen nothing yet.

If he goes for anything between 20-30mil, I want 60-70mil for Fabregas, minimum. Fabregas is better than Kaka, Alonso, frankly if we don't get something over 40mil for him we've just failed miserably.

crazy...or emirati :D

If you can get £28mil for Milner though, we may well be able to get several hundred million for Cesc lol...

Just been reading a few gossip columns today - talks of Torres going to Barca this summer too, for silly money. Has to be false doesn't it? If there's weight behind it someone needs to stop Barca..can we all pitch in and hire a hitman to bump off a few of their players?!

If some one stumps up more that £15m for Milner then they are crazy!

I do think he will go close to 30m to City. Villa would be silly to buy a player for 15m and then sell for 20m. Especially for one of their best performers.

If Utd get him then that would be better. Still looks a good player but certainly has the hype going for him. Much like Walcott did in the last major contest.

Its funny, people were complaining but not to badly when Real spent what they did, arguably Barca would be spending less on Villa, Cesc and Torres, but people hate it more, because they actually rate Barca, no one rated the older Real team to start with though. Really people thought Real were just getting back up to the level we all really expect them to be at, where as with the current Barca team adding the same amount of top class players just seems ridiculous because if the "best" team improve that much, no one else stands a chance.

There will be movement out of Barca though, and it would look like non spanish players being moved out. Is it a Guardiola thing, anyone non Spanish has been almost dropped this year, Henry, Yaya, Marquez. Won't be surprised to see 2 of those, if not all, leave Barca this summer.

But Torres + Villa + Messi + Xavi + Iniesta + Cesc, with that lot in a 4-3-3 setup, 3 are going to be played in their non favoured position so I can't really see it happening. Cesc yes, Torres to play second string to Villa, can't see it, can't see Xavi/Cesc/iniesta working in a 4-4-2, can't see Torres going there, even with Ibra gone he won't be first choice.
