Why?
United need creative players, what does it matter if they're wingers or centre midfielders as long as they're creative then the job is the same
Besides Berbatov & Rooney like to drop deep centrally so creativity will come from there
Of all the players we've been linked with how many predominately play wide? Krasic, J.Cole, Silva, Modric list goes on and on

we need a striker and to get rick of carrick and berbatov while they still have some kind of value.
Because they are different positions?
You do realise that wingers play on the wing and whilst technically both being midfielders CM and L/RW have completely different jobs?
Rooney and Berbatov do drop deep but as you can see from last season it is often fruitless, MU are crying out for an attacking midfielder.
Silva is a LW/AM so can do both

J.Cole can play both as well but mainly in the middle
Modric is normally played in the middle
Fergie likes players who can play multiple positions, but imo its central where Utd really need creativity
On the wings is great if you have it, but the problem is its a lot easier to block also (Ronaldo had speed bulk and accuracy so was a lot harder) , creativity in the middle gives you lots more options (and a harder player to control from an opposition point of view)

What game's have you been watching to think that both J.cole & Modric mainly play in the middle? J.Cole never gets a game there for England or Chelsea, he plays wide on the left likewise Modric for Spurs other than a few games at the end of last season
Everytime I've seen Modric he's been in the middle
Likewise with Cole, he may be more effective from the wing but how often do you see him run the line? He cuts inside at every opportunity becuase that's where he is more dangerous.
They way we play Cole/Modric would be better used sitting behind the strikers rather than being isolated on the wing when neither of them are real 'wingers'

Nani, winger, Park, winger, Valencia, winger, Tosic, winger, Giggs, winger, obertan, winger.
are we saying we dont have enough wingers? or that we lack quality wingers? they are all a year older now and should all be better than last year.
yet if we need a winger now, why didnt we need one last season then? to go out and try to buy some now shows just how bad the purchases of wingers we have made over the past 5 years really. especially when you consider that people like obertan have always been terrible and that tosic was expensive and hasnt even been given a chance to show anything at all for the first team.

and if you throw that 3rd center midfielder in to cover carricks frailties, then you only have 1 up front. yet our most sucessful ever team was based around playing 2 straight up front...
does anyone else see the insanity in plans to buy either more wingers or at least admit we have bought terribly in this area of the pitch

Nah, Cole goes in-out-in-out but whether he cuts in or not, his starting position is out wide and that's where he gets played.
I player in the middle has shackles that would stop him being effective, and only playing one up top would mean he'd be expected to chip in with too many goals.

That is exactly my point, you can't just buy a 'winger' because he is classed as creative, we have the ones you posted already, what we need is an attacking midfielder.
Again, my point exactly, we need someone to sit behind 2 strikers, the problem with that is you need a damn good DM mopping up behind him and doing the dirty work.

we hardly EVER play 2 strikers and adding an attacking midfielder would mean that we definately wouldnt play 2 strikers.

yea lets buy a 50million player for a role that doesnt exist, or bid for players that either wont move to us, or ther teams wont sell to us...
and fab+iniesta arent really attacking mids - fabregas is the closest...but id class them both as more MC, then an AMC...

I agree we won't but it gives us a hell of a lot more options than the 4-5-1 pish, which has been our problem for a few seasons now.
When in a losing situation to be able to go 4-4-2 with an AM and a DM would make sense rather than just throwing on midfielders who have no creativity whatsoever.
Ideal but not a chance in the world.
