So apparently Fran Merida is set to sign a 5-year deal with Atletico Madrid next week. It's a shame for us because he's still young and has proved he can score from midfield. But he would only ever be played on the left for the first team and at the moment we resort to Eboue if Arshavin and Nasri are unavailable. Good deal for all involved then, and hopefully Merida can develop properly at Atletico Madrid.

Good deal for him, absolutely great player with shedloads of potential, as with so many others, doesn't get the chance to play and doesn't get the chance to get some form, even so he looks better than pretty much every other youth player we have bar Wilshire, its clear Wenger isn't going to give him his chance. Merida given a few games to get to form would wipe the floor with Theo, has some pace and some real ability to go around players, he's an actual winger though so that ruined his chances. way better to buy another striker or central player and play them on the wings.
its funny that theres Gooners saying they'd love Henry but whats the point, we have plenty and only play one striker, when I say that about Chamakh...... he's free why not, we need another striker. He'll ride the bench where as Henry could easily actually play week in week out on the left wing in the same role he played for Barca as they won, everything.
He was superb last season, he's not worse this season, he wasn't Spanish this season. Lots of quality players at Barca being dropped for FAR worse players because they aren't Spanish.
I'd take Henry over Chamakh(yes I know too late) any day of the week. Someone on £75k a week who'd play every week on the left and be world class and with a point to prove still(he still wants to win the CL with Arsenal) or £50k a week for Chamakh to ride the bench behind RVP, whose unproven and only scored a few in one of the weakest leagues around..... how good has Benzema been this year.
EDIT:- Thats ignoring the fact of course that Henry left because Arsenal couldn't win anything, with a FAR better team and with Fabregas, not sure what would make him think, hmm, Arsenal, about 60% worse without Fabregas, not won anything in 5 years with Fabregas............. nope.
Losing Fabregas, when most of the world knows just how good he is, sends a huge message that Arsenal won't be the same team, they won't be close to as good, so we need another few less well known fantastic players to join as they haven't hit their best yet and come good at Arsenal. Chamakh is the kind of player we can sign, with more money than anyone else in the world right now we couldn't sign a Villa, or Torres, or Yaya Toure, or Lucio, and probably Buffon(keepers can shine anywhere really). 4 years ago we could have gotten them, we were competitive with loads of potential 5 years later we're the same team thats proven they don't have it.
If Hleb makes up ANY part of the deal where we lose Fabregas......... he's a sign of Wengers incompetance, truly useless player, can't get a game for a great team looking to win things, was crap in a much worse team, didn't shine for us, was completely useless with an embarassing goals/assists tally for someone who got so many games, embarassing for someone who got 1/4 of the games he did.
