** Official Tekken 7 Thread **

Downloading now, 2-3 hours of this evening will be divided equally between Tekken and Nier: Automata:D
Been hearing a lot of good stuff about this Nier: Automata. I will give it a go at some point once it drops in price :D

The game clearly uses a modified Street Fighter IV engine. I appreciate that there are some differences in the meta, but the gameplay is predominantly in the same vein as Street Fighter, not Tekken.

I know it shares the same engine as 4, the whole point of the game was to be Tekken characters showcased on the Street Fighter engine, just like the upcoming Tekken x Street Fighter will be Street Fighter characters showcased on the Tekken engine (Akuma so far), but that doesn't change the fact that at it's core it was much more of a Tekken game than a Street Fighter game. No links, huge juggles, assist moves (TTT2), easy combos etc.

I appreciate that it's on the same engine, but that's like saying Fallout is more similar to Skyrim than it is to a Call of Duty title, just because they're on the same engine, when in fact the gameplay has more in common with the latter over the former. The only thing that separated Tekken gameplay from SFxTK gameplay was the fact Tekken had 3d movement. Now if you were to compare SFxTK to SFIV the list of differences in mechanics would be a thousand pages long.

Trust me, you don't even know what's headed your way:D I understand people wanting to wait for a bargain on this one but it's easily worth it at full price. I wasn't joking when I said that it might be my game of the generation in many regards. To me, in terms of experience I'm getting out of it and its utter uniqueness, it's the most important game released in recent years. And that damn OST just crushes everything else...
It's hard to describe without saying too much so don't even read the reviews etc. (you might be surprised just how highly regarded this game is:p) And set audio to Japanese when you get it:p

I'm just downloading this now haven't played tekken in years really looking forward to it.

If anyone wants to play some with me and has decent internet add me. Ginnnny

Personally I thought sfxt felt the same as sf4 just with bigger combos. I could pick up rufus dive kick all over their face the same as sf4.

I prefered sf4 though played a lot of it. sfxt got a bit boring after a while.

I agree that it strongly resembles Street Fighter IV. It scarcely plays like Tekken at all!

What's it like?? Are you guys playing this yet?

I had a couple of questions.
1. Is it a good port?
2. Does is have much input lag?
3. Is the online laggy?
4. How well does 280x handle it?

Thanks

Answer my own questions as I got the game now and might help others wondering same stuff.
1. Seems great port, from everything I read and seen the pc version is the best of the 3 and everything works.
2. Game feel very responsive even with vsync on.
3. Online seems really good played 10 matches so far none were laggy.
4. Games runs ultra settings on my 280x locked to 60fps without even overclocking.

Game runs great and lots of fun, the only complaint is the slight lack of single player content compared to 6.

Had a run yesterday, feels very nice and runs great but there is indeed very little SP content. I don't get this trend of sequels having less stuff than prequels. Graphics are quite pretty.

Online sucks so far, if it connects it's fluid and lag-free but I couldn't connect with 5 players in a row yesterday and my connection is pretty fast...

Overall, it's good fun.

It might not be a network issue - I believe it also shows the "couldn't connect" message if the other person declines the match (based on if you want a revenge match and the other person declines, it shows an error-type message).

The online has been good for me so far. There's a tiny amount of delay compared to offline, but it's definitely the best online experience I've had in a fighting game so far.

I fancy Neir Automata and also intended to wait for the price to drop. However, I've been put off a bit after buying Bayonetta - whilst it's undoubtedly a really cool and fun game, it just didn't grab me the way I expected it too and I actually haven't gone back to it for a few weeks. Is Neir Automata more of the same compared to Bayonetta?

Oh just thought of something when I was playing ranked matches I was going from warm up mode and that was working perfectly, so maybe try going from warm up mode if you wasn't already.

Sometimes this game goes out of sync with opponent mid fight without telling you and then they get replaced by ai. You can be fighting against each other and both be winning on your screen. The only way you know it's happened is if you are chatting to them. This was happening around 1 in 15 games between me and my friend.

Nope, Bayo is a pure action game, Nier is an Action RPG (or is it?) with both very good action and very well implemented RPG elements. The story goes a lot deeper conceptually and thematically and it's in a completely different vein, there's even some quite tastefully done symbolism you might not even notice. The combat has a slight whiff of Bayo but is far less silly and over-the-top.

The atmosphere is also completely different, it feels like some sort of quirky outlandish fairytale. Automata was made on a very small budget an certainly won't win any awards for graphics but the artstyle is great, as is the feel of the movement/combat. The combat animations are incredibly detailed.

Ultimately, it's a Yoko Taro game, if you're a bit more open-minded about narratives/characters/settings I think you'll get lost in this quirky and bizarre world.

Without quoting the reviews, the bottom line is, Nier is IMO the most important and unique release in recent years. You won't find such strange charm and elegance anywhere else. And such music.

I did some some quick matches and ranked matches with warm-up yesterday and it's the same. The problem is also gaining attention on forums, it seems. I doubt seven people in a row would instantly decline a match.

Online has been great for me especially the online gameplay netcode. I don't think I've had more than 2-3 consecutive disconnects when matchmaking via 'Warm Up' and requests come quickly. I think it helps if you accept the request as quickly as possible.

The problems are much worse on PS4, so perhaps it's a concurrency issue with the matchmaking (offering the same requests to multiple players maybe).

T7 could be my favourite Tekken game since 3, it's very more'ish!. I'm having fun learning the matchups/strings and how to properly play Jin (again). I feel most of the new characters bring something new too which is nice.

I'm so glad that the PC port is solid, great to see more fighting games coming to PC (and more people playing fighting games as a result).

Also on a 280X here. I had to turn down textures to High due to Kuma/Panda's fur causing drops below 60fps in gameplay especially on Kinder Gym stage. Do you see the same results?.

I have all other settings maxed though, carried out a lot of testing and it's been holding 60fps at all times in gameplay.

Yeah I doubt it's an issue on your end - the matchmaking connectivity could definitely be better.

Might depend on when you are playing, could be worse at peak times.

Yeah, loads of people are talking about it so the issue is quite widespread. Harada said they'll be changing the matchmaking system soon.

Ok thanks for that. I'm sold - wish-listed for now...

Damn, some of those treasure mode unlocks are properly ridiculous:p Trying to learn Jin a bit, it's been 10 years since I last played Tekken:D
