2nd faulty U6-Pro. Grrr if I put traffic through it, like speedtest it reboots. Original seller say it’s a power issue. Does it on POE+, POE++ and POE injector. Tried different cables, different switches, same.

U6-Pro back up and working. Kernel panic in the crash log. Updated to the latest RC firmware and issue resolved.

So is this caused by a hardware revision or bad write of the last official firmware? I did originally manually update with official firmware, but that didn’t resolve the issues.

UniFi is an holistic product. It’s sometimes OK to run beta software in the controller and stable firmware elsewhere and sometimes it’s not. It also depends what settings you applied in the controller. The whole system is buggy as a Louisiana swamp and, for me, unless you desperately need a new feature or bug fix, just leave it alone. It’s networking, it’s the pipe that moves the content. It’s not meant to be the content… If you’re spending more time in the controller than watching fluffy kittens on fluffykittens.com then something is wrong somewhere.

Hhhhmmm I can't get more than 100Mbps with my new U6 Pro despite standing next to it. This is after network guy terminated the RJ45s and speeds were fine when I had it setup for testing. I've re-plugged cables, will look at port speeds on the UDM SE next.

Wouldn't normally run RC etc. Glenn over at UI asked me to install the RC release after I raised the issue and supplied logs. Kernel panic in last-crashlog.txt

What's frustrating is I've ask for the what the real issue was. Hardware revision, bad write of previous firmware update or something else, but that question doesn't seem to get answered. Kernel panic is listed as one of the fixes in the latest RC release 6.4.46.

The main thing for now is that it's working. Still disappointed Cisco missed a good opportunity with their CBD software and CBS products to deliver something good etc. Cisco CBS350 switch is solid, no probs and such, fully configured via CLI. Alta Labs at the new kids on the block from ex Ubiquiti staff I believe, beyond that not paid attention. Being cloud only, it's direct against HPE Aruba Instant-On? I haven't listed Meraki etc as license costs etc.

Ubiquiti has features "coming soon" on product pages for years, the products get superseeded by the time the feature arrives if it ever does. U6-Pro DFS Zero wait.. Unifi Talk coming soon for the rest of the world for donkeys of time lol

Ubiquiti have dropped $13bn in market cap from the highs in 2021 to about $7bn today.

Why do people always stand right next to access points? Stand about 2m away for optimal communications with a ceiling mounted access point or about 3m away if you’ve turned it upside down on your desk.

In any case 100Mbps isn’t any good unless you’ve forced it to run legacy 802.11b or g or n in which case it’s about what you should expect.

I’ve got Alta Labs gear on the bench at the moment and the challenge from your point of view is that it’s really vanilla gear. It’s literally 1GbE 16, 24 or 48 port PoE switches and WiFi6 access points (not 6E) so it’s basically previous generation gear. The excitement with UniFi is, as you say, bleeding edge gear for prosumer enthusiasts.

I tried under, a few meters away and in another part of the house. Just not sure why it's doing it now when it was fine before - haven't changed any settings. Unifi UI on a browser said poor ethernet connection but don't see that warning when using the UI on my phone/today.

What speed does the switch show? GbE or FE? FE means it’s running at 100Mbps.

There we go, just dived into settings and wouldn't have known what FE meant. It's on FE/100Mbps. Settings look largely to be on auto so think I need to switch to manual and force GbE. Thanks :).

I do love the UI for Unifi, very handy being able to sort out whilst I'm in the office.

Edit - just noticed on the overview screen, there's a legend showing 2 ports are on FE, one on GbE. However now that I've changed the port manually to work at GbE, it's showing the port as disconnected. I've had to switch back to FE for now for the port to work.

Cabling issue then - I can't think of an occurrence in the last 10 years where I've had to manually specify port speed - should be fine on Auto

You can force GbE but I would want to know why the auto-negotiate failed to establish a link at GbE speeds. So now I would do what @img suggested above and take the AP down and test it again on the same port with a pre-made patch cable. If it still doesn’t auto-negotiate GbE speeds then the AP is likely bad and I would suggest you replace it. If it does auto-negotiate GbE then you may need to get the cable tested thoroughly as it could be working but damaged.

Edit - beaten to it by @Armageus

A dodgy cable was one of my first thoughts, for all the cable runs - wondered if there might be one dodgy one. Fortunately there is redundancy with the runs, the network guy who terminated is swinging by next week for something else so could get him to investigate (wiring or his termination).

I'm definitely testing all the ports when I get back. The port map is showing 6 and 8 at FE :(

He should be able to verify the integrity of the cables. I’ve got a small Klein verifier that reports if the cable might be or is broken and in which conductor. Handily it even estimates the position on the cable where the damage might be.

I have known installers to lift floorboards and put a joiner in between two good bits of cable rather than re-pull a run. Naughty, but it works.

Which model is that?

KLEIN TOOLS VDV501-851 Scout Pro 3 Cable Tester?
