******Official War Thunder Thread*******

Having a spot of bother getting a decent recording of it, don't like how they've changed the new replay style.

I'll try and get it sorted tonight. People really should learn not to mess with my HS-129!

In the meantime, you'll have to make do with this terrible show of incompetence...

Vodka, comrade? :D

Some luck, some skill, and a decent spec PC with a good 24" 120Hz screen don't go amiss either.

Also, taking out a fully upgraded BR 2.0 Russian lineup is the best "killing" lineup in the game as far as I can find, and I've got pilot vitality pretty much maxed, and good reload speeds across all my pilots as well. Crews are 'expert' but I don't think any are 'ace'.

Situational awareness helps a lot - I don't go in for reading loads of books or articles on aerial combat tactics, but you should always fly like your head is on a swivel! The 'c' key is your friend. Always know what's going on around you, don't get bounced unexpectedly and pick your fights to a certain degree. No point diving into a furball of 5 enemies and 1 friendly, you'll just end up dead. If you're reloading and alive, scan the skies around you and pick a fight. Join one where the enemy is already outnumbered, and you're more likely to win it :p

Learn how to perform 'snap' shots, especially when head to heading when you cant avoid it. Spray a load of bullets/shells at the enemy's nose, and then snap away ideally before they can return fire. Rockets work for this too!

*Convergence.* Against a plane with wing-mounted guns, the nose cannons of the early Russian stuff is devastating. Many pilots can't bring all their guns to bear on you even if they get the drop on you, so dodge, use scenery, other pilots, get them to change their mind about attacking you and go for someone else or get killed by your teammate.

Also, I'm aware it's cruel but biplanes don't stand up well to 20mm armour piercing high-explosive rounds. Quite why they still fly straight and level is beyond me, perhaps they're just admiring the graphics?

you're perfectly safe mr tcfreer, you're probably on more often than me at the moment!

how you getting on with the game?

Still derping around, though my Japanese line is coming in for some love I've decided - I like the totaly lack of stabilty they seem to ahve, and there amazing abilty to simply burst into flames at any point :)

Vidar - apologies for not being mega chatty when you were in the TS and popped in for a few games, Need some random ramming time as I was in, well a huff, should we say.

I'll get my understanding soon of this game and - hopefully - Matt and Brain can carry / sorry help me out again - four man squads are epic though - we need more of them

I never seem to catch anyone else on. I often drop into the clan chat thing and there is never anyone online. I play a few rounds most nights but not late so i guess everyone is online later. When do you guys normally play?

Nearly got my Tier 3 german setup complete though.

You can be my wingman, anytime...

(Try looking around in War Thunder around 9pm - midnight, there's often a few of us kicking around, or find us on Steam if you like, forum names are mostly close to Steam names)

New member here, I've been largely inactive as I've just moved house. But will try to get some time in soon. Can someone send me the TS details please?

ive been playing this for a while now and i think i seemd ok at it using mouse and key board.

But i have just connected up my blackwidow throttle / joystick ........ im just sooo rubbbish now its a whole different ball game when using a joystick to play this game.

anyone else using a joystick ? how long does it take to get use to it?

Nine pm - blimey - I'm normally zonked by then - muxt drink more redbull then - or miricle war thunder ace juice.

I just have to remeber not to take my chika

Oh and I almost - almost - have the iL2 of death. think some more GE's may be invested in this small game - just to drop some free exp and get some crews maxed out

Only apply golden eagle-bought crew points to your pilot vitality and G-force, as they will heavily effect your attitude towards rage quitting. You can only put up with so many one-shot pilot kills.
There are a couple of Joystick users in the squadron, but mostly M&Kb. I'm thinking about getting one for Stimulator and Realistic Bumming modes to keep the game fresh for longer. Not sure I want separate throttle tho.

Once you've tried seperate throttle though you will wonder how you ever did without it, for stimlator it make a huge difference

And by the sound of it - if you end up floating in h6k4 with 1 engine on one side and 2 on the other with no tail its usefull then as well

not that I'd know about this of course.

Cheers Brain - I will do that sir.

although with using a joystick /throttle / rudder setup i can not line up a shot for **** i can pull some WTF manovers for evading enemy fire.

Plus for some reason with a joystick you can feel the weight difference of different planes if that makes sense? totally different experience to the mouse and keyboard.

I got that joystick and it is nice to play with just not in arcade.Stick with it in SB and RB and M/KB for arcade.

Just an fyi to anyone thinking of standalone throttles - WT only supports a single throttle/prop pitch/mixture axis. Managing different engines on a multi engine aircraft in WT is a bloody nightmare and is far more complicated than it should be. I got a friend to ask on reddit when the devs did an AMA earlier in the year and they responded that they had no intention to improve it :(

Also:

Need some random ramming time...

:O
