******Official War Thunder Thread*******

slowest turret traverse ever, and if anyone sees you side on you're dead.

Head on they are good for holding objectives, and long range sniping but the instant a t34 gets outside your front 90 degree arc you may aswell just alt-f4, cos you wont be able to get the turret to bear on him, and you will be on fire shortly.

I'm ashamed to admit it but I've been neglecting poor old WT. really must man up and start grinding my tanks again. Any you tarts about this evening for some whoopage?!

A few quick questions for anyone who might know:

We have the Hurricane Mk1 and Mk2B in WT, with the 2B obviously being more capable due to more firepower and rocket carrying.
But IRL, during WW2, which version of the Hurricane was responsible for the most kills? Is it one of the ones we have, or one we don't have yet? What was the armament?

I'm not sure of the answer Brain

But I will say the one I want to see is the Hurrican D I think? 2x 30/40mm tank buster's under the winds and a pair of 20mm cannons I think?

Quick google provides info to me on the Hurricane 2d

2x 40 mm anti tank guns under the wings with .303 browings in the wing x2.

Please bring it into the game!!!

Air kills or ground kills? Over the entire war? I have an old 1950's book on the Hurricane back at home which I think has these numbers. It also has detailed flight data for all variants (I'm wondering if I can give that to Gaijin?). In terms of air kills I'd expect it to be the MkI by some margin, second bet would be MkIIc which had 4 x 20mm hispano but it was mainly used for ground attack and such offensive sweeps and named the "Hurribomber".

The IId had the 2 x 40mm cannon for tank busting.

Definitely air kills. Over the entire War.
If it was the I, then I would expect the wins were due to it being a superior weapon VS what the Nazis were able to field early on.
If it was the IIc with the 20mms, then I would expect it was a surprise later on for the FW190s when they suddenly found the formerly-weak-armed Hurricanes were chewing their comrades to pieces in air battles.
There isn't a chance in hell it will be the 2x40mm armed one. If anyone wants to know why, try the Vickers P. Ground attack only, and then only until a fighter takes an interest in you.

Also would like to know if the one with the most air kills was also the variant produced in greatest numbers.

Most air kills of any variant= Hurricane 1A series, 8x.303's, was the highest killer due to battle of britain vs. relatively early german aircraft, it had a superior turn rate as shown in-game.

MkIIB was already outdated when it came into service in late 1940 (12x.303's w/bombs/rockets) and all marks after that were primarily used as ground attack aircraft including the 4x20mm version and especially the 40mm.

Almost all german fighter tactics in the 109's and 190's against hurricanes were BnZ tactics, so the chance of them getting a surprise off the 4x20mms was probably fairly slim.

Sweet, great stuff.
So basically the kill ratio of the Hurricane, often thrown out there to prove its worth against the Spitfire, is more a representation of the Germans inferiority to the British Empires flying capabilities at the beginning of the war.
Once they had gotten over this short-sharp-shock and put more money into fighter development, things came even and the Hurricane was no longer able to compete.
Then we had the Spitfires come in with heavier wing loadings, metal skins and higher top speeds, and those took over the front-line role while the Hurricane was sent to the deck to farm tanks and troops.
It's a damned shame the British war planners didnt push the Hurricanes advantage at the start and grab air superiority over German airfields while they were able. Then sit a flight over them 24/7 making sure nothing ever got into the air, no matter what cannons its got.
Planks...

hmmmmmmmmm not quite.

Remember the battle of britain was kills of a lot of bombers mainly hence the massive numbers, those 8 mg's do more damage than in WT, and you can't turn fight in a non-turner.

Manouverablitiy with the spit was its selling point, mainly down to wing design that it had over the Hurri.

The hurri was also farming troops as it remained slow because of wing design, its got a big ol' cross section compared to a spit.

If the planners had pushed to 'cap' (for lack of a better word) german airfields we would probably have lost the war, we would have been utterly pummeled with numbers, part of the deciding factor of the BoB was early use of radar warning which wouldnt have been in german/french territory

enough of all the technical malarkey.....the fact remains the IIb is the best plane in the world ever (in WT anyway) any more of this nonsense talk is only going to upset me

Right, we've found the ultimate trolling move!!!!!!!!

Tonight I was spotting for kwango in sim mode, a tank carcass goes rolling towards him, I assumed it was dead as it was black/brown like a burned out tank so we both ignored it.

Seconds later the **** opens up and one-shots him.

Found out how to do it, only really works in sim-mode as you dont get the names above live tanks

Before:

After:

Yes its not the same t34, was just and example, plus the tiger takes to this camo better than the russian tanks, but you get the jist

yup, was a tad annoying.....dude rolled up on me boycey calls out it was a dead tank, I turret round to confirm....move my turret onto another target and bomb......what a barsteward!:mad:

**** day at work, almost every game tonight has been full of absolute *******.

Think I'm done with WT for a while, you get **** if you help a team to win, and you get **** when you dont.

******* raging.

I hear ya dude. Last game before i rage quit I was sniping a dude and one of our team rammed me from behind pushing me into the enemy line of fire and I got popped.

Options at the minute it seems is
1) play arcade and risk having a **** team eh of all gung-ho and have no game sense
or
2) play the tediously boring simulator battles

Think I'll take another break too
