******Official War Thunder Thread*******

Test driving the t34-100 last night, i love how the firing sound seems to be an altered version of the Springfield 03 sniper rifle firing sound from MOHAA.

Performance seems to be up as well, when that 1.53 released fps dropped by around 20, seems to be just about where it was pre-patch again.

I got a rental of the SU122-P (as well as 3 other worthless rentals, 2 of them for the same damn tank! WTF Gaijin?!)

A quick look at my stats on it today shows that I bagged 40 kills with it, for 16 deaths. I think 2 of those may have been bot tanks, but at least one of them was an IS-3 which pleased me greatly :)

I also managed to finish the other 50% of the research into the PT-76, with judicious use of a couple of boosters and a bit of luck.

Now, that's the good bits over. When the rental ended, up popped a screen offering me to purchase the SU122-P. For 6000ish GE. Or in real terms, about £23. What exactly are Gaijin smoking?

Why no discount? At 10% discount, it would have been an insult, but still a discount. At 50%, I'd have snorted, thought for a second, and said "nope". A discount in the region of 75%-90% would have made me seriously consider, and probably cave in and get it. Do these people have NO idea how to sell their digital products?

It's not an OP tank, it's not a ROFLstomper, it has no post-WW2 ammo, it doesn't even have a turret. But it has the same gun as the IS-2, so a well placed shell can wreck most things in 1 hit, simple as that. And for that, I quite liked it. At the right price, I'd buy it. But I'm absolutely not going to blow the price of a full game, on a single tank! Ever.

The finest Ganja wrapped in £50 notes. :p

This game could really be a money sink hole if you got too into it, its farcical how slow you rank up unless you have a premium account and the price of golden eagles to buy things is also a joke. The price of a game for a single tank is really taking the ****, but people are daft enough to pay it unfortunately :(

I've been hammering this the past 3 or 4 days, absolutely loving it. Only play Realistic battles, taking my time and and playing it properly. I'm still down in the T34, KV1 Tier II range, keeping my BR under 3.7 but I'm having so much fun there. In the 4 days I've been playing, I must have played 50 realistic tank battles, and only lost 5 or so, been a a fantastic streak. I don't know if I'm getting better or luckier, but I'm killing 4 or 5 tanks a round now, loving the MD8 fuse8 rounds, they seem really good.

And last night something epic, got the Poland map and it was lobbing it down with rain, was really murky and thunder in the background, was very cool.

I've stopped playing since the whole 'rental' thing came in as a reward for events.

Grinding for a free vehicle? Yeah done that quite a few times as long as it doesn't take more time than its worth.

Grinding to rent a tank for 3 days **** off!

The E-100 event is going to be on over xmas, wonder how lolworthy its going to be trying to grind for that, i reckon its going to be unacheivable by most

I'm just happy playing where I am Boycey, I'm not aiming for anything in particular nor am I grinding for any particula reason, I just hop in my little T34's and rek the enemy and have fun lol. But I understand where you guys are coming from, you and a few others have hammered this game to death haven't you, i'm still newish really.

oh yeah I understand, its just that Gaijin have reduced the reward system so much its nothing like the game I started to play a couple of years ago.

The 3.7 level is now pretty much the only area the game could be described as 'fun' and thats if youre driving russian tanks, forget about the german ones.

yeah, T34 1942 and KV1 are my destroyers at the moment :) so much fun.

A little RB round I just had sniping from 1000+ in the KV, I feel invinsible at that range, nothing can get through the 80mm armour tehehehe

To be fair, the conditions to gain the rental weren't difficult, and especially not if you used BR 2.3 Russian planes. :p

But the rental mechanic itself? Absolute cack. Why couldn't you pick what you wanted to rent? Why did the rent start immediately? Why didn't you get a discount on the vehicle you'd rented, as a further incentive to buy?

I think a lot of my frustration comes from the fact that the game is... largely complete. It has planes, tanks, different styles of combat (AB,RB,SB) and enough vehicle types to keep things interesting. Sadly, the "fun" aspect (remember H6K airfield trolling en-masse?) has been smothered out bit by bit, and the money-grabbing has taken over.

I used to recommend, and encourage people to join War Thunder, especially given that it's no loss to try it out. These days, I don't bother.

These days I mostly hop on for a couple of games with friends, usually tanks or planes at 3.7, or reserve tanks can be a laugh if you get a good match. Can't remember the last time I flew a jet, they're so horribly gimped without upgrades that anyone who pumps a ton of cash into the game pretty much auto-kills you. No fun.

Well, they've really outdone themselves here....

http://warthunder.com/en/news/3441-special-rocket-science-en

To get a rental ticket for 3 days for a rocket tank, there are 6 different challenges to complete, including:

Destroy 6 targets without a miss in one battle
Destroy 5 targets in 1 second 3 times!

Considering I've never managed either of these even once before in my entire War Thunder career, I can only come to the conclusion that the devs are playing some totally different kind of game to what the rest of us are. There is literally no other explanation as to why they'd even put these in as potential tasks to attempt.

I probably wouldn't even bother if they GAVE you the tank for doing all that garbage... but nope, you'll get 3 days rent... at the end of a period of demanding, intensive gaming where you'd be thoroughly sick of playing. Good work boys.

It seems hard if we was too attempt it in tanks. But in the air it is quite easy when dropping loads of bombs.

A lot of the graphics in the new engine seem to be missing that 'finesse' and polish that the old engine had, planes in the air looked almost as good as photos of real ones on the ground, but in motion. Now it looks much more artificial and 'game-like' ... all for the introduction of what?
Better water effects.... and a handful of destroyable buildings, which no-one cares about and has almost no tactical advantage whatsoever.

On another note, Golden Eagles are on sale:

I'm thinking of buying this one:
