No it's an MMOFPS as Sony have rightly categorized their game.

lol, the FPS at the end just further classifies it. It is still an MMO just read it back to yourself, you'll see :D

People have differing views on what defines an MMO, why worry about it.

Sssh you :p I haven't even offered my definition of MMO (I've said multiple times that I don't care, but they just keep trying to convince me!), just pointing out that those that matter have classified it as an MMO.

rojin have you actually played a real MMO to see just how massive the game worlds are? they are almost like an alternate reality because the worlds are that convincing.

compared WOT to an MMO is like saying the battleships boardgame is like planet earth

BTW compare this battle to WOT
and another video from someone with a half decent comp (you see all those little squared icons? they are all players in ships the guy is zoomed out uber far so they look tiny but if he zoomed in close they would appear as nice awesome looking ship models)
you see what is massively multiplayer about a 4k+ player battle

then look at wot and see what is not massively multiplayer about 30 people

Yes it's an MMO for the right reasons, actually have a go of PS2 then tell me how WoT is even remotely an MMO type game.

Not a fan of PS2, it ruined my rose tinted memories of PS. You're right though, they are completely different games in how scale is delivered. Is that enough to separate them out of the MMO bracket? Apparently not.

Last time I checked the word massively was linked with scale.

only MMO for wot is minuscule minute online game :D

oh from googling the problem seems to lie with gaming journalists new to gaming that seem to think

massively multiplayer online gaming is a description open for debate when it is not and that is just a shortened version of what an MMO is....

people seem to think a game is massively multiplayer if it has 1 million uses spread across 200,000 servers because they are all playing the same game....

I found one article that even claimed COD was an mmo because it has a large player base lol....

I played the original Planetside a lot, and Battleground Europe. It's not relevant though.

I'm glad you posted the second Eve vid, the first one wasn't selling it as a very enjoyable experience!

massively multiplayer ;)

so many players it just looks like a huge bee swarm

WOT is basically generic FPS online game in tanks accept you can not choose what server you want to join and you have a third person view how anyone can see it as massively multiplayer is beyond me

Wasn't the WoT world record for 195k users on one server? Edit: Yeah it was RU2. Across all RU servers they had over 800k. So 200k servers is stretching it a bit.

yea 65,000 concurrent users actually inside the same game world actually playing the game is clearly not as good as 200k people sitting in what essentially is a menu screen waiting for their turn to even start playing.

man if only FFXIV had the sense to have huge queues they could have had the most concurrent users playing an mmo ever .....

connected to one server with more than half of them likely afk in the garage screen , 10k playing and the rest waiting for match making.

it's not the same accomplishment as eve which actually had 65,000 people on the same server cluster playing in the same game world at the same time.

it's easy to split people between a bunch of different servers , it's hard to have a massive amount of people in the same world how wot can even hold that record is a joke.

eve-online server power
3,936GB of RAM, 2,574GHZ worth of processing power.

go find out what WOT servers combined are I bet they aren't even a tenth of that

Of course it's not the same accomplishment, as you've said Eve uses a server cluster. WoT holds the record for most players on a single server.

I'm interested to know where all this hate comes from to be honest. For a game which you can easily play for free etc...

it's not hate it is not an mmo and that is fact.

there is nothing massively multi player about the game apart from thousands of people playing at the same time but in there own games.

each wot battle is essentially a separate game server people aren't playing it together in massive numbers

if some how the servers were all connected together and you could seamlessly move from one to another which each one being different instances of the same game world and there was not a double digit player limit per zone then you could call it an mmo.

as it is only people with no sense believe it is an MMO

the people who must have missed the quake , CS , BF etc years and don't understand what a basic online game is.

people are playing the same game they are not playing in the same game world at the same time.

it's like looking back and classing dungeon sieghe or neverwinter nights as MMO-RPG it makes absolutely no sense

arknor is 100% spot on. This is in no way shape or form anything like an MMO and will never be an MMO.

If game journalists want to hand it awards in a MMO category then that is completely retarded but irrelevant to the fact, this is not an MMO!
