Yes but for an absolute beginner British Cruisers are not the line to pick, without map awareness and knowledge of enemy ships you'll just end up getting deleted over and over again with not much chance to learn.
I'd say any of the Battleship lines are fine, although USN are only 21 knots until tier 8 (but great armour/anti aircraft as you go up). All of them suffer before you get to Tier 5 in various ways, e.g. horrible range, speed or gun dispersion, Tier 5 onwards is more representative of their performance.
Destroyers just try them all and see what you like, American is probably best for a beginner as they have a nice mix of guns and torpedoes, Russian are gunboats with poor detection (can be spotted more easily) and short range torpedoes, Japanese are focused more on torpedoes which they can launch whilst hidden but have poor guns.
Cruisers, they're all quite fragile at lower tiers (with the exception of the St Louis), once you get to Tier 5/6 you start getting heavy cruisers (as everyone except Britain) with bigger guns and better armour. I'd say try the American and Japanese cruisers and see what you like, Americans lose their torpedoes after Tier 5 and focus more on anti-aircraft and at higher tiers using radar to spot enemy ships (such as destroyers hidden in smoke). Japanese cruisers have higher chance to start fires with their HE and have torpedoes all the way up the line and their anti-air isn't as good. With all cruisers however, if you show your broadside to a battleship, or a cruiser if they're close enough, you're likely to be punished with heavy damage/death very quickly.
Carriers, semi-RTS style gameplay, only you can decide if it's for you so watch some videos and see if it appeals.
Another good youtuber/streamer to watch is Flamu, but iChase from what I recall had done some beginner level guides at some point.
