Ole's sacked, who next?

So Ducker reporting we're talking to five managers about an interim role. Favre, Rudi Garcia, Valverde, Rangnick and a mystery fifth one! lmao. I'm actually impressed we're capable of considering more than one option at a time,

Its Ole. They need a manager to come in and bring a feel good atmosphere back and get some results. Ole has proven he can do that at the top level. Everyone else on that list is unproven. Knows the club as well.

:D

Some are reporting it's Fonseca.

Why do these media outlets blatantly lie and people actually take it gospel. Truth is no one has got the foggiest who Man United are after. I would not be surprised if Carrick manages to string results together that he will be interim till the summer when hopefully we will make a more rational decision.

What is the lie exactly?

The child in me says just make a permanent appointment asap. Feels like it will be a dull season with little to build on. What happens if you get a interim and he is a massive success ? Wins a cup, or a strong long unbeaten run. You then appoint a poch and it goes back to the last few weeks.

The adult tells me to be patient. :D

There is no real issue with appointing an interim and giving them the job long term if you think that they are doing a sufficiently good job and they have a good track record of producing well coached teams. The problem, which has been Uniteds problem for a long time is that the only thing the board can see is results. Its not a surprise when most football fans seem to have a similar aversion to looking at anything but the scoreline at the end of a game as a marker for how things are progressing.

Ole had a purple patch when he took over and almost as soon as he got the job the results took a massive downturn. He also didn't show any signs of being capable of coaching the team proficiently or playing a cohesive style of football that can win you trophies. His CV also suggested that he was unlikely to be the heir apparent to Fergie. Nothing about Ole suggested that he should have got the job long term or been retained as long as he was.

If we got an interim who was a proven manager and they do really well, they perhaps should be considered for the job but ultimately that is rather hard decision to make as getting a manager of any calibre is usually quite a lengthy process and we can't get a replacement at the end of the season if we are always umming and ahhing about retaining the interim.

The best option is probably to stick with the interim leaving at the end of the season and another manager coming in but again, that depends on the manager we want being available come June.

Redcafe has decided that Poch isn't the right guy. Lost to City yesterday and can't get Messi, Neymar and Mbappe working for the team so clearly a red flag. You couldn't make it up.

The reality is, he won't be at PSG after the summer. I seriously doubt they'll win the CL as the top sides will pick them apart, as we saw last night. They struggled for the vast majority of the game.

If Poch really wants this job, he should be looking to make the move now. Apparently it's in his hands, if he tells Leonardo at PSG he doesn't feel it's working (they don't get on), they might be able to sort something out.

Poch is all about longer term projects and PSG isn't one.

That being said, I have no faith in Woodward & co to sort things out, or to push for it to happen, or to pay up and get him.

People seem quite excited about Valverde... I'm not really sure why. Barcelona fans didn't really rate him and said he's dull, and his track record isn't really anything to write home about. Though he's obviously in a different stratosphere to Ole, I don't know a great deal about him.

I guess we have to wait and see...

I’d rather they just got on with getting a long-term manager now. The interim stuff will just make it difficult in summer, and in Jan. What if the interim is doing a middling to good job? Will we have another Ole situation on our hands as the board can’t see anything but results?

Poch needs to happen soon!

I can't remember the last time a team of Galacticos assembled with no thoughts of team balance and cohesion actually did well. Even the RM unders Zidane that won the CL 3 times was a team built around Ronaldo but just stuffed full of talented players that worked brilliantly together. You can have one diva or superstar in a team that he rest of them accommodate but you can't have 3.

Modern football at the top level is a tactical game. If your front 3 aren't contributing in both attack and defence you will get pulled apart by good teams. City absolutely ruthlessly dominated PSG yesterday. Its the reason why I laughed at people who thought Ole would compete for the league or the CL.

All of the top teams every year are the ones that have top players and a very high level of synergy in their squads.

I agree completely. I don't think an interim is ever really a great idea unless it's very short term. It will present more problems down the line unless they are doing badly - at which point the entire thing has been a failure anyway.
