Ole's sacked, who next?

Bit surprised to hear suggestions of them turning to Steve Bruce as a replacement.

I mean look, I get it. He should fit in quickly given he's been at the club before. But let's be honest here, at the age of 60 he probably isn't the answer at centre back.

I'm in two minds - I dread the thought of a caretaker (carrick, blanc etc) for 6-7 months to the end of the season. Carrick isn't going to shake things up in any way shape or form. It's a LONG way to the end of the season to just "drift" along with a caretaker manager and could cause some very serious issues with players / league position / lack of champions league football etc.

On the other side - I'm not totally convinced about Poch.... I don't know what it is but just something that doesn't appeal to me about him.

Personally I would take the "risk" and go pay whatever is needed and get Ten Hag.... I know he said he's not leaving mid season but money talks most of the time.

I'm not sure its that simple and from what I understand, Ten Haag would want a specific structure in place in the club which we probably can't offer and certainly not half way through a season.

The only reason we might get Poch at this point is because PSG are nuts and are currently creaming over Zidane so would potentially be happy to let Poch and his team go so they can bring in Zidane for 6 months until he is sacked.

Ajax on the other hand aren't a bunch of ***** and ETH is unlikely to want to leave them in the lurch mid season.

I still think Poch is an unknown quantity at the top level. PSG is unlike pretty much any other club and Tottenham were operating under very different constraints to United. He might do well, he might do poorly and he might do somewhere in the middle. I would happily take him and give him the chance though. We can't traipse on through the season with Carrick in charge though.

:D wasn't expecting that punchline, but probably wouldn't be any less effective than Lindelof.

Quite like Valverde, I'm surprised he'd consider an interim role.

Can't say I know a lot about him really, Barcelona looked alright. Ultimately though it seems Pochettino is the man if PSG will let him go.

Edit: Ducker has just written the same thing more or less

I know that its just reporters fishing for clicks but I really don't like the idea that we have 3-4 managers we would seemingly be happy with and aren't necessarily aggressively going for a particular target.

I expect if we were to get Poch mid season, it would be decided after tomorrows game, around thurs/Fri time if they have the balls to fork out the money.

Well as you said it's just click bait. I am sure UTD have a top 3 and a top target.

Simon Stone at the BBC reporting about Valverde now too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59395712

One interesting note:
They feel recruiting Paris St-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino immediately may not be as straightforward as has been suggested.

United feel an experienced interim manager, likely working alongside current coaches including Michael Carrick, who took charge for Tuesday's Champions League win against Villarreal, will bring stability and the space to have a comprehensive assessment of the managerial situation.
I have to say, if Poch is the main target for the summer, it would be much better to get him now. We've wasted enough time plodding along with Ole, another 6-7 months of an interim manager seems a shame.

It's good we're working on both rather than just trying for Poch and then when that doesn't happen starting the search from an interim. That is kind of what you expect from us!

I'm a bit confused. Who is "they"?

That makes it sound like United had been reading the papers about how they could prise Poch away mid-season and when they actually tried to make contact it wasn't as easy as "hows about it Poch?".

The club

More likely Poch is interested but PSG don't want to lose their manager in the middle of the season? I saw some suggest the the French season break is probably the earliest it was likely to happen.

Andy Mitten says we've also interviewed Rudi Garcia. I'd take him over Valverde.

It sounds like Fletcher and Murtough are interviewing possible interim candidates while the rest of the board work out if they can get Poch. You'd think the game tonight might have some bearing on that, if PSG play badly.

What? Of course the players are good enough.

There aren't going to be major changes, better to just accept that now.

The immediate issue is very obviously the coaching. We don't look like a coached team and haven't for a long time.
