Snaking

The execution of several consecutive mini-turbos, by drifting back and forth across a straightaway, is a technique known as "snaking", but is officially called a "Mini-Turbo".[4] Snaking was originally known as performing "Straight-Stretch Mini-Turbos" in the Mario Kart 64 era.[citation needed] n

A Nintendo of America official has personally described snaking as an intentional part of the game's design, considering that a similar technique could also be performed in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.[4]

Why am I not surprised that ONM gave it 94%?

Edge gave it 6/10.

definatly getting it on release day, its the best racing series ever bar none

Gran Turismo says hi - and the Mario kart games after N64 went waaay downhill. It's a shame to see this isn't the exception if Edge is anything to go by. I'm still amazed that people take ONM seriously.

It's got quite a high average after several reviews, so I don't think that's too bad. Just as you can't take ONM seriously (does anyone take any official mags seriously?), it is only 1 review from Edge.

Personally, I think only Double Dash wasn't as good as the rest of the series, and many would agree that we've had the best version of Mario Kart on the DS. From what I've read, this is like the DS version, but on Wii (and without the snaking of course).

I'll be getting it Friday, couldn't preorder online anywhere but local game shop has stock coming in which I can get!

Can't wait!

I like the look of the Mariokart Wii Channel that the game adds - that sounds like it'll be a nice addition - make it easy to check up on rankings and get into tournaments etc

Can't find it available for pre-order at the usual locations - will have to keep an eye on that though - this has to be bought :D

cancelled my preorder today, checekd at work and Tesco have it down for £27.71 internally atm. Theres a chance in could go up but, couldnt find it cheaper than that anywhere else. So if you haven't pre-ordered it might want to check them out on friday

Meh, I don't think there has been a decent Mario Kart since the first, so I'm not holding out any hopes for this. Also, online integration would be fine if it weren't for the silly friend codes.

Still that's the one thing with being a natural pessimist, you can always be surprised.

Its funny how people see things differently, i didnt think the first was any great shakes, the only one ive really liked was the n64 one.

I personally have never used snaking, or played against anyone who snakes. Just seems to me that it's taking what is supposed to be a fun game a little too seriously, whether intended by the developers or not.

indeed, for me MK is just about 4 mates shouting at each other whilst playing a really fun game, nothing better than shelling 1st place and seeing him jump up in anger :D

It still has the drifting turbo thing.

I never really knew how to snake an entire track but you can still drift and get two levels of boost around a corner.

You can elect to drift automatically but forgo the boost, or do it yourself and boost. Mario Karts idea of automatic or manual :p

I spent many hours on Mario Kart 64 with my three bothers. 4 Player races around Wario Stadium, and with my youngest brother always being in last he would always lightning me down the jump

The game was immense and had us there for hours just racing each other and going through all of the cups. Bowsers castle was a complete sod to do without going off the bridge or hitting one of the blocks.

Battle mode was excellent too, it's only down fall was boring maps to play it on.

My Wii has been in it's box for months and i have hardly used it since i got it on the launch day. Although, i'm getting bored of my games on my 360 so until GTA comes out (SEX WEE!!) i think i might get the Wii out and try it one last time.

Undecided as to if i will get Mario Kart, will check out some videos and trailers of it tonight. What is whe Wii wheel, just a plastic mould with the Wii mote in it?

So how come you can't pre-order Mario Kart Wii on any of the major sites anymore?

Is there any hope of getting this on release?

Best bet is to head down to your local game stores early on the day of release to see if they have any copies in stock. Hopefully some will.

Out sold 1st day pre-allocations (I read somewhere) (Nintendo seem to have ongoing problems supplying hardware and software this generation).
