ONM - MarioKart Wii Review

The first thing i did this morning when i woke up was check a certain catalogue comapies website, and reserved a copy of Mario Kart + an extra Wii wheel for store pickup :-D

once i picked it up at dinner time i had a look around other shops, and everywhere seemed to have plenty of copies in stock
 
A parcel has indeed arrive, although the missus is getting the shopping in. I've no chance of getting it pre-birthday though :(
 
Thoughts so far:
*Wheel sucks completely and the shops are trying to make out your need one extra to play multiplayer.
*Split screen is great, but the slow down with 3 or more people is not on.
*New courses are really pretty cool, some of the snes ones I'm not so keen on.
*Too many items going off at times. Why isn't there worms style customization of weapons etc in this game yet?!
*Online was superb and smooth all the way.

We need to get our racing on lads, its great fun! :D

there's 7 or 8 of us who want to play and we have 2 wii consoles, most we can have is 4 players ?

I don't know why Nintendo don't allow Wii's to be networked directly to allow 8 player on 2 consoles, they allowed it with the DS and GameCube Mario Karts.

- Not used the wheel but it was obvious it was going to suck.
- Turn off bots for framerate boost. They give you the choice for this reason.
- The beach level sucks ass.
- Set weapons to "basic" and you get a blue shell roughly once every 3 games.
- Online is great apart from everyone sucking. Works far better than brawl or MKDS online and is just liek playing via system link with all features and levels working.
 
I'm on the Wave Bird a lot so far I find it more comfortable than the Wiimote personally.
Thanks for the tips Kreeeee. Blue shell is annoying as hell and often doubled up or trebled up with other power ups for maximum grief. Which beach level sucks?
 
Frickin great game, really enjoyed the multiplayer on it!, came in 4th out of 11 on average though :S

I've only ever not come first when I get hit by 2 blue shells in a row on the last corner. Everyone's a complete retard online.
 
The wheel has completely made this game for me - it's superb. tbh I doubt i'd still be playing without it and fail see why some aren't getting on with it.
