Opteron 165 overclocks

in anticipation of my 165 coming from the States I'm tempted to try my hand at water cooling. Would this kit be sufficient?

Alphacool Cool Answer II 80 Watercooling Kit (WC-000-AC)
or would my existing SI-120 and 120mm fan be just as good?

dpmw at same settings 38c, 2x fans on 5v, from 1.5v to 1.6v temps seems to stay the same.

Ello Scoobie,

Thats exactly what mine said for three working days. Which was crap. I wouldn't be suprised if you have it on Monday.

But I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya.

My mate got stung on customs ordering a CPU from the states once, was ridiculously high. Ordering my CPU tonight from a US retail site, if I lose the Opteron 170 I have my sights on ebay. Damn you bank holiday weekend :(

a quick questions if i may.

I currently have a 3700+ clocked @ 2.75 but have the oppurtunity to purchase a 165 opty.

Would this be a good upgrade? I like the idea of going dual core and the one on offer is supposed to be a good clocker.

Sorry to jump in but with above question in mind and the stepping of CC1BE. would purchasing an 165 be worth it - upgrading from a 3700 @ 2.75?

PC is mainly used for gaming and general internet use.

Well I'd say so. The 165 has dual cores and has double the cache too. What sort of cooling are you on? On air as you can see these babies can hit 2.6+ no problems :)

thanks - artic freezer pro 64 currently - does a great job of cooler the 3700. only 40 degrees under load @ 2.75ghz.

looks a good stepping from what i can find on the net.

Do you know how much the sender declared it was worth? Should be on the package documentation somewhere when you get it.

I think its my fault actually. Its the first thing I had from the States. This is what he said in his email:

I marked as gift and has a low value for the customer to avoid the customs fee (taxes). I can list as gift and lower the value for your item, since I can't insured the full purchase price, so I need to confirm with you that I don't take the responsiblity if lost or damaged and any custom issues for these item because of this.

I marked as gift and has $10 value for customer, and sometime the clerk works at the post office let me purchased the full price insurance also, but I don't know the package will be refunded $10 or the full purchase insurance amount if something goes wrong, so I am not guaranteed the insurance. I will do the same thing to ship your item.

Please let me know how do you want me to ship your item, thanks.

1. Marked as gift only and declare full value with insurance.
2. Marked as gift and a low value, maybe able to purchase full price insurance, but not guaranteed.

I guess I was being on the safe side. Knowing my luck if I asked for option 2 my package would get lost, and to be honest that was something I was not prepared to gamble. At the end of the day I have to pay another £40 (vat). But seeing as I got the chip for £200 its still a bargain. :)

Sorry to hear you have to pay VAT mate.

I asked him to mark it down as a gift for 20$ and it arrived safe and sound - No tax to pay.

woohoo!!

Agent.
