Oscar Pistorius thread

Would you normally lock an en suite door?

It all seems unlikely to me, my first thought on hearing a noise in the house would be that its someone who lives with me or its the house creaking - it wouldn't be to start shooting through the toilet door.

You're clearly a big Oscar fan:rolleyes:
The scum-bag is almost certainly guilty, the facts and logic simply don't add up or make sense!! I hope he rots in jail and the fact he has loads of money doesn't allows him to get away with cold-blooded murder
Firstly, I'm not a fan of him at all. The media over-hype how amazing he is and what he does, and he was a fool to complain like he did during the paralympics. Secondly, he probably will rot in jail if he is guilty, otherwise he'll be free to live a sad life knowing what he did, for the rest of his life.

Surely it makes more sense to wait until we hear the facts before jumping to conclusions. Don't forget there was the report about the valentine's surprise (dismissed by the police) as well as the bloodied cricket bat (not mentioned by the prosecution).

It's also sickening that his using his disability to try and gain some sympathy
His statement in court (If tweet is accurate) has clearly been very carefully thought out and worded with his legal team to produce a set of events that are very unbelievable/unlikely but at the same time not impossible!!

**Edit**
My take on the locking of the sliding door is that it was not the bathroom door but instead an external door which would conveniently help bolster his case of thinking an intruder was in the house!!
Which begs the question why does someone who is clearly very paranoid and intruder suspicious go to sleep leaving an external door either unlocked or open???

Seems to me that no matter who was behind the door, he didn't intend to scare them off by shooting 4 times through it and assume this is why the authority's over there are so keen on charging their "national hero" with pre meditated murder.

At best, he was uber paranoid & started shooting prior to clearly thinking, at worse, they had one hell of a valentines day row and he went nuts.

Where was it stated that it was en-suite? That wasn't in the court room twitter feed from what I can remember?
And yes, whenever I go to the loo I lock the door. It's something I don't think about, just habit.

It's been stated its a small ensuite bathroom with no other exit. It was just referred to a bathroom before that was known by the media.

I really don't see how you would shoot into a room, through a closed door in your house, when you know you have at least one other person in the house with you....

Well if you believe they are in bed then you will not think it is them in the bathroom.

Sky News say this:

She had locked herself in the room after fleeing down a seven-metre passage from the bedroom

They also say he went to the balcony to fetch a fan rather than to simply close the door.

So he felt vulnerable becasue he didn't have his legs on but then proceeded to kick the bathroom door down?

So did he stop being scared after he had fired the shots to then put his legs on to kick down the door?

ALRIGHTTTYYY THEEEEEN.

I am going to wait and see how the trial turns out. As much speculation as there is, we know almost nothing.

South africa is a completely different place to the UK so applying our paradigms to their situation is ridiculous. I have heard from a number of South Africans over the years and the stories vary from "its pretty safe" to "don't stop at traffic lights in certain places at night".

All the points you are making C.R.A.Z.Y are quite irrelevant. To try and place guilt based on the guy having the best lawyers and trying to mount a water tight defence is ridiculous. I don't massively like the guy but anyone would do the same. Especially since it has been apparent from very early that the prosecutors are pushing for pre-meditated murder.

No. He went back to the bedroom and realised Reeva wasn't in bed and that it must be her in the bathroom.

So the first thing he thought was " right, gotta get my legs on and kick the door in"

Not do what he could because his girlfriend might be lying there bleeding to death?

I don't buy it at all I'm afraid.

If that is what happened then what do you expect him to do?

He shoots through the door thinking it's an intruder. Returns to bedroom and realises it must have been Reeva in there. Obviously if this happened in this way as an accident the next logical step is to get in there and see if she is okay.

He said he broke the door down with a cricket bat, didn't kick it down.

Realises its probably his gf behind the door.

What would you suggest he should have done to get to his gf behind the locked door.

If only we could put him in the same situation Jorel had those 3 baddies in at the beginning of the original Superman Movie

Guilty Guilty Guity.... Then smash him into a mirror and throw him out in space!

How frikkin cool would that be!

It's simple... He was on the grog that night got blind drunk and woke up completely leg less a few hours later and thought he'd try and bat one out before throwing a few shot up his mrs!

Columbo's got nothing on my investigative skills!!!

This thread is so laughably pointless.

We aren't allowed to make light of the situation with inoffensive jokes but armchair lawyers and crime scene investigators can throw around all the damaging assumptions they want? Amazing.

Just to mention, he didn't put on his legs until after the shooting. He has limited mobility on his stumps. This could also be why he didn't notice the bed was empty.

It does sound plausible. It was a stupid thing to do (fire blindly through the door), but if he has been asleep his judgement may have been clouded.
We will see if there is any truth in the reports that the neighbours heard arguing before the gunshots. If that was earlier in the evening, after which he could have gone to bed, I'm not sure how the police can prove it as pre-meditated murder.

I'd say it sounds possible but not plausible. I've not really followed the story but I lived with a girl for 3 years and the first thing I'd do when I hear a night time noise that startles me was to check where she was or wake her and let her know what I'm doing. In the event something is going down, I'd want her to be with it enough to run away or call the police.

We can all feel vulnerable and I guess more so when you don't have full mobility, but to fire at a closed door when you know your girl is in the house just doesn't seem like plausible reasoning. Not waking her up to tell her whats going on if you're going far enough to pick up your gun (which is also right next to her) doesn't seem plausible either.

Thats just me though. I wouldn't shoot at a closed door (for several reasons) even if I was home alone anyway.
