Oscar Pistorius thread

To be honest, it definitely seems odd that the prosecution are going for what they are. The fact that he shot hip first seems to go away from the concept of premeditated in my mind - If I'm planning to kill someone, I'm not going to aim for their stomach...

I don't really buy that. How many people have heard a noise in their house and went to investigate in fear, usually to be relieved it was nothing? It is natural to go and investigate and try to defend your family/girlfriend. I expect it is harder to understand about shooting the supposed intruder when you don't understand his environment or the culture of the country/city he lived in. But if you feel your life is in danger you're going to act instinctively.

If his neighborhood is so dangerous then why did he have the front door unlocked and get up in the night to close the sliding doors? it's things like that which discredit his story.

Not really. It won't take you much research to discover Pretoria is one of the most dangerous cities in South Africa.

It is quite conceivable that his balcony doors were open because he was hot and fell asleep with them open by accident.

As for the 24/7 security I think it's pretty irrelevant. He isn't exactly going to hear the supposed intruder in the bathroom and then think oh it can't be because security would have stopped them. The reality is (if his story is true) that in his mind his girlfriend is in bed and someone is in his bathroom.

Yes it is natural to investigate, but he didn't. He got his gun and shot blindly through the door. He intended to do the person serious harm. He could have challenged them through the door. No doubt he has quick reactions should they not answer his challenge and try to come out, so he could have defended himself then, but he didn't. He aimed and shot through the door with the intent of killing the person behind it (I don't think 4 shots could be explained as trying to injure someone).
Unless the prosecution have any other info, I suspect it was a stupid mistake made half asleep after an evening drinking. With regards the court case, whether getting the gun and then shooting into the tiny toilet before trying to find out who was in it, will be classed as pre-meditated by a South African court will be interesting.

The more people try and rationalise the reasons he has given for his actions the more outlandish his explanation becomes.

It just doesn't follow any kind of reasoned or rational course of action.

How many people have heard a noise in their toilet in the night so loaded up and shot a few bullets through the door?

He didn't investigate, did he?

The Chief Investigation Officer says he found the pistol holster next to the overnight bag and slippers, which may suggest it was on her side of the bed.

They also recovered two iPhones from inside the bathroom, neither had been used to make a call though.

Prosecution stating that Reeva was dressed at the time which brings Oscar's affidavit into further doubt. She's hardly got out of bed got dressed and locked the toilet for a quick night time pee.

(this is from the prosecution)
- So they have a witness statement saying there was non-stop fighting between 2am and 3am, then heard the gunshots.
- Oscar says he was too scared to switch on the lights, the witness says lights were on
- He would have to be 1.5m from the toilet door in order to hit the person on the toilet.
- The angle of bullet entry suggests he was wearing his legs.
- Oscar has no licence for a .38 pistol
- 2 iphones and Blackberry's were found at the scene. None had been used.
- The police have no record of him being a victim of crime which he says

Not looking good for Oscar!
