"Our attempts to make Formula One greener is ruining the sport" - Bernie Ecclestone

I love F1, I follow it every year however this year I am struggling to enjoy it.

The sound was the first thing I noticed on the first race, it just isn't what you expect from an F1 car and it just doesn't add to the experience. It just feels really slow and boring, from the sound to the braking (or not as the case may be) on corners it just doesn't feel like F1.

I'll give it a couple more races but I'm not going to keep watching it if I don't enjoy it.
That's exactly how I feel.

I do feel that this year's rule changes will be looked back on as a huge mistake. I believe the popularity of F1 will fall as a result and there will be a return to real engines without the sheer nonsense of the green pretence.

What's the root cause of the engines being quiet, is it the turbo, rev limit, cylinders or a bit of everything?

A lot of it will be down to energy recovery - after all, noise is effectively nothing more than wasted energy.

When you're taking energy harvesting to the extremes F1 demands, you're going to lose the by-products of energy wastage as a result, whether in part or in full.

Lower revs will contribute somewhat too I expect.

Turbos, reduced RPM and reduced capacity in that order. In addition the RPM effect is magnified by the maximum fuel flow constraint.

It's really a sad state of affairs, when the engine noise is considered a huge factor in a "race". What needs to be sorted is the racing or lack there of. Has been this way for about 10 years.

Remove driver aids, drs, and fuel restrictions imo.

That's how I feel. At the moment the noise they make is down the list of things ruining F1.

I actually think if that is the main concern you have then you must have special needs.

F1 is more about saving tyres and fuel than actual racing these days. "Lift and coast" is now an essential skill to be mastered in order to have the slightest chance of winning.

This I agree with, I'm finding myself less inclined to watch these days due to the poor racing! Give em all karts again:p

Exactly and it's why other racing is better. You should be able to hammer the car and take risks, be bumper to bumper. Sod these filmsy fairings. Make them at least able to take a knock or two.

His only issue seems to be with the noise and how it makes F1 difficult to market as the cars sound rubbish, I suspect he'd probably be happy with lawn mower engines if they sounded like the V8's.

The way F1 has changed in recent years going from the pinnacle of motorsport to cost saving and being all about entertaining the masses who wouldn't know a real overtake if it hit them in the face, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they fit amplifiers to the cars to make the engines louder.

As a racing purist I'd like to see them revert back to the way the sport was about 15-20yrs ago, before all the silly changes and rules came in. I find it hard to take F1 seriously as a competitive sport nowadays as too much of it is contrived, the drivers of today aren't really given any freedom to race because they have umpteen things to worry about just to be able to reach the finish line.

I went to KL with Orange Arrows. And I don't remember how fast the cars went or how well they cornered or who came 2nd or 3rd.

What I remember is the noise.

The mexican wave of spectators putting fingers in ears on the early laps.

The easiest way to bring some noise back is upping the rev limit
