"Our attempts to make Formula One greener is ruining the sport" - Bernie Ecclestone

It does seem more and more apathy is developing towards the sport.

The more they try to improve things the worse it gets
Touring car is far far more entertaining. Cause you cab do a bit of bumper action. The cats are far from perfect. It works.

Imo you don't need all this junk in the car.. More there is the more you need artificial aids to make it interesting

Is becoming like WWE wrestling

I think the main problem is that F1 has always been a technological show case for equipment that might make it down to every day Joe Blogs daily drive in the future. In a way manufacturers get to do R&D while having fun. The problem being the petrol super and road cars of tomorrow can not follow the old path of F1 hence the 'green' version they are now trying to do. It has worked to some extent as more engine manufacturers are coming back to the fold as it is an interest to their business. The part that hasn't worked is the fact the formula is being crippled by these eco saving measures which make no sense at all.

The small capacity engines can work (They were a wonder to watch in the 80's in many forms of motorsport not just F1) but they need to get rid of all the silly things like no refueling and rev limits. It will make the racing more exciting as they will all be racing on the limits of not only their ability but also the engines.

I love the fact that they really need to be 'driven' now, and watching them squirm under traction is great. However they are just too slow. From the fastest lap chart of the race, there are only 3 cars faster than last year's GP2 cars at the Malaysia track, and 2 of those were the Mercs. How have we got to the situation where F1 cars are slower than a GP2 car?

Even watching the 1999 race on SSF1 you could visibly see how much faster the older cars were in turns 1 and 2, which are supposed to be all about mechanical grip.

Like it or not, this is the new Formula 1 and bar tweaks it will be here to stay for a while.

If it's not your thing, go watch WEC, NASCAR or some other series.
Honestly, I already have. TUSC is far more interesting.

Expect a chorus of "it's new technology, they will get a lot faster", but with limited aero improvements possible, engines that are already reliable and the ridiculous fuel limits, I just don't believe that will happen to any substantial degree.

Formula 1 is dead. Formula Green has replaced it.

How long before we see a diesel F1 car?

As a life-long F1 fan these new changes have turned me off the series

Don't think it's the rev limits or Turbos making the cars quiet - sound different sure, but old turbo F1 cars were definitely loud and sounded good.
I believe it's the ERS, they're harnessing so much energy from the exhaust gases there isn't much energy leaving as sound.

I'm really torn on the whole. The engines are amazing pieces of technology that will really start to push hybrid tech. F1 is the right place to develop them, but not the place to showcase them. This tech needs to be getting pushed even more into GT Endurance racing.

Could they just force teams to put some noisy exhausts on the cars like all the local chavs do with their Corsas? :p

You think were going back to NA V12s and no energy recovery?

Your deluded, and blinded by ignorance.

Lol.

Ignoring the questioning of your sanity, what exactly is the difference between my post and Kenais?

Someone has a chip on their shoulder.

Speaking as someone who drives a Hybrid car, I think the new F1 engines sound toss.

Nothing will replace that shriek of an F1 car.

I wonder if they can go for a more ferrari la fereeari/Porsche 918 approach rather than a Mclaren P1 approach next year.

Basically Peaky as hell N/a engine filled out with electric motor vs peaky as hell turbo filled out with electric motor

What also irks me is the fact that the cars have been lobotomised to make the sport green, yet there is 100s of tonnes of equipment flown, driven and sailed from Europe to every race and then back again.

Making an f1 car do 10mpg instead of 4 isn't even a drop in the ocean of the resources used to accomodate that.

Exactly, green passenger cars make sense. Green motorsport cars in non endurance racing doesn't.

I feel that it is being used to set a wider "global tone" of greeness rather than actually having a direct effect.

Meh, F1 lost my interest long before the engine changes.

It's been a procession for too long, even DRS doesn't really provide any more interesting overtaking, just get behind someone and then blast past on a straight, it doesn't really do it for me.

F1 has been carbon neutral since the late 90s, including the CO2 from spectators traveling to the track.

Its not about being green, its about the image of being green.

You are aware that the cars are faster in a straight line this year. At the last gp they were faster in the speed traps than last year.

Next year is a tad optimistic isn't it? These engines took 3 years. For fundamental changes your looking at 2016 at best. Next year would see tweaks at most.
