Overnight Oatmeal

For those wanting a real treat, try banoffee overnight oats

Usual oat to milk mix but add a little dark sugar (1 tsp for me), a little vanilla extract and a shot of espresso. You can add banana and Greek yoghurt on top for the full experience but it gets quite calorific

Does any one make a big batch of this at once.

I'm thinking to save time in the evenings to make a big bowl full and keep it in the fridge then just take a portion out every morning for the week.
Does this work or does it all go to soggy.

I'm liking jumbo oats, lemon curd Greek yogurt, peanuts, raisins and chopped dates.

together ? even with home made lemon curd ...... lemon + peanuts/raisins/dates

Asda do a lemon curd Greek yogurt which I really like.

I half fill a small bowl with oats then add 2 table spoons of yogurt, 1 table spoon of raisins, 1 table spoon of peanuts and 1 table spoon of chopped dates.
Mix it all up and put it in a tupperware box in the fridge over night.

I like it, Mrs hates it as she cant stand dates :)

I've eaten it after 36 hours, really wouldn't like to wait any longer, it will just be a mess.

thought as much. No real hassle making it every night, its just remembering to do it.

We make two days worth (4 portions for two of us). Would try more but we can't fit a bigger tupperware in the fridge :p I'd just give it a go. The second portion does seem to "separate" a bit (we use milk and yoghurt) but just mix it up and it's fine. I'd have thought at least 3 days worth would be fine, if not more.

Good old porridge does the job whichever way you eat, but yeah I really the over night one and when I want it different I cook it. Just the thought of it is making my mouth watery, YUMMMMMYYY!!

Reminds me a little of Alan Partridge's Toblerone addiction, but I do recall once having a bit of a dependency on porridge. Couldn't get enough of the stuff. Went through far too much honey, though.

The one I've been enjoying is:

1/2 Cup Oats
1/2 Cup Milk
1/4 Cup Greek Yoghurt
diced apple (reciepe said 1/4 Cup but I just chopped up a whole apple into chunks)
1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon (I add a bit more as I love cinnamon)
1 teaspoon Maple Syrup.

If in the morning you find it a bit 'cloggy' when you come to eat it, add a splash of milk to loosen it up.

Tried this today and I was pleasantly surprised! Substituted the syrup for honey and chucked a few blueberries in there as well. The first time I've sort of semi enjoyed eating overnight oats!

It's the nicest one that I've had so far, I like the sound of having blueberries in there as well so will have to do that!

Ok maybe I'll try yoghurt instead, but milk pretty much saturates oats after an hour, even pin-head oats can't resist a 12hour soak
what happens to the GI too ?
Even with porridge I am in the al-dente camp - bring to a simmer and turn off.

Imported blueberries, at least from Asda, are often sharp (unless cooked in a muffin or pancake) versus say dried-fruit/strawberries or stoned fruit peach/apricot

EDIT : saw a recommendation for a more al dente/crunchy breakfast oat experience

I don't know why you're making it without yoghurt
calories, even convenience (lots of milk usually in fridge); seems little point in pouring in additional calories at breakfast time, when porridge can taste fine/creamy with skimmed milk

quick, arbitrary, google search
Calories are the most critical aspect of any weight loss diet, as you must eat fewer than you burn to lose weight. One cup of skim milk contains 86 calories, while 1 cup of whole milk contains 149 calories. A cup of plain yogurt made with skim milk contains 137 calories, and a cup of yogurt made with whole milk contains 149 calories, but has less protein and carbohydrate and more fat.

Frozen fruit is the only way to do it, after having this for breakfast for the past 4 years I have myself down as a overnight oats expert.

Oh and get yourself the easyio yogurt maker system as well :) proper full fat yogurt

Whacked some frozen fruits in last night. Blackberries, raspberries and blackcurrants. Tis nice, but by god are they sharp tasting. Might be the quality of the ones I brought. Tescos own brand.
